Progressive Trance/House

What do you think of these two genres?

Posted by TOR on Jan-30-2004 20:41:

i adore progressive trance, but progressive house tends to be a bit too minimal for my tastes..

I love progressive house, progressive trance and progressive house. Progressive house is sometimes minimal, yeah thats true. But it means that you can easily bring in some variations in the track that'll give a buzz on the dancefloor. And than...everyone starts to move!
Trance is for the dancefloor too of course, but i listened to it to get some "air" in my head. I listen to a few trance songs and my sorrows don't seem to be so difficult/heavy anymore.

right, but thats just my interpretation

I can't stand the word progressive, let alone the genre

It's not an opinion, it's a fact: this is the most misleading name ever. It originally represents the progression from trance to house (and vice-versa), but this is is pretty much what happened to trance as a whole in the 90's. Even UK Hard House managed to borrow more elements from trance than this so-called "Progressive house", which turned it into a less dull (and less housey) genre (I'm still talking about hard house). Actually, epic trance wouldn't exist if it weren't for the "housification" of trance.

This does not mean it was a bad thing for trance (in fact, it was a good idea both for house and trance) but while house remained loyal to its roots (Funky house being an example), the roots of trance seem to have been lost

Some prog tunes are okay though.

Markus Schulz progressive trance. Pfft. He is not. Go listen to Sasha, Nick Warren, and Dave Seaman sets from 2000 and earlier.

both, sticking with just one gets boring, im always in a state of flux when it comes to what i like most, one month, its uplifting, another its prog another its psy, its just an endless cycle of getting bored with one, and having to resort to something else for a period of time to keep things fresh
