Armin Feature in 3D World

Hey all...

Just wondering if anyone got their hands on (+ has kept) the edition of 3D World from a couple of weeks back (must have been the week before he played at Home) with the Armin feature in it... Apparently it was quite a large article on him?

Anything interesting? Anything worthwhile trying to track down? I tried to get my hands on it but was too late...

I also looked on the 3D World site + nothing there... So it'll be up to some lovely person out there to help me out + maybe scan it in?

Heheh... Unless anyone knows a site where it has already been uploaded to?

If anyone can help out it'd be MUCH appreciated

I picked that issue up when i was in melbourne a few weeks ago to see armin at QBH. I kept the posters but threw out the rest. It wasn't anything special, just the same old tired questions. I wouldn't waste my time if I were you. You're better off reading the interview stipsy did with him, i think its on the scene. There's a link in the pump up thread.

apperantly armin met up with some1 in Melbourne at a bar which looks to be somewhere near chapel (check armin forum) .. why doesn't anyone tell us these things ... people like myself adore this guy ..!!!

Ahhhhh OK - well that's cool... Thanx for letting me know nothing major was missed out on... Thought it could just be that same old regurgitated stuff that you see in almost every feature on the guy... Almost like they do a cut-paste from his website bio?

Btw already checked that Stipsy interview...

the meetup was organised between close friends and wasnt a formal TA meeting....

Evan,

I'd been talking to Armin/his manager since november last year (and actually confirmed in person in HK), AU.TA meetups in Mlb, Syd and Brisbane. It was all to be done 2 weeks before he was playing. They both seemed cool to do what they'd done over in the US (as you'd of read about on his forum).

I didn't announce it as there was a chance it'd of fallen through, but to find out it didn't fall, and to find out it HAPPENED down in mlb, and was kept quite is pretty annoying.

$tip$y: Armin has done meetups all through the US when he's played there. Was there any reason why you decided to keep it to close friends only? Were you told to keep it quite? Armin and his manager (Dave Lewis) in Hong Kong told me 20 people per city was the amount he'd meet and greet before the event. Can I ask how you managed to get something I got told I had?

We were told to keep it quiet and personally it was better off that way, at the end of the day you cant make everyone happy, because we would of loved to make a thread about it, to share our excitement.
Bottom line is though, who do you invite and who dont you invite??
So we kept it to a small number there was like 6 or so of us.

How did we manage it, well it actually was our third attempt to have the meeting, the first two fell through, im not going to advertise how we done it because i think i will use the same technique for other djs you may head down to aus.
You must remember we are in melb you are in syd, as for you being told you had it well i dont know what happened there, as i said before our plans fell through twice and it wasnt easily done believe me.

is it just me or does that sound a tad lame?? like "ohhh i'm so uber cool cos i have this special method for meeting djs, and omg i so have to meet them all so i'm gonna guard this secret super carefully"

in the end, they're (djs) just humans like the rest of us....it's not THAT big of a deal

That's cool re:numbers in America he was doing *.usa.ta. meetups, so thought he'd of been cool for it here(obviously not).

I'd like to tell u a bit more about this, so here goes

I Know some melb ppl who were big fans of Armin & Wanted to meet him so I contacted some people I know at Armada who I've done press work for, and asked how to go about it, and talked to fellow ta's who did the meetups in the USA With Armin & Ferry & ran them highly well. I then did what they'd told me and passed the information onto a couple of melb ta's who set it up from there.

Even in the small number of people who were invited, there were people who were finding out, trying to invite themselves, their mates, and people who blatantly didn't give a shit about the original group going, so they kept the numbers down for those reasons, it was a no-win situation and It only came off on the 3rd attempt anyway as said by Jolene. With some of the people in melb I can see exactly why they had to keep the plans secret, the AUTA is so much more individualistic in groups, I could point out 2 or 3 'lots' in melb alone who like to socialise, post together, and goto certain events together, whereas had this been a UKTA meetup, there are about 60 of us perhaps who could all go together, no1 trying to upstage the next person and so on.

Instead of trying to moan because Armin met them instead of you, think about the fact that if you'd all come together in the first place you might all have got to do it. Had you (DJ-Way) Organised a melbourne one for sure, would you have just invited who you wanted to or everyone too ? I'm pretty sure we all know the answer to that. Armin was very kind to meetup with people and bitching at them because they had the determination to go ahead with it is pointless imo

oh i wasn't saying i wanted to know how it was done - i personally couldn't give a rat's ass........i was just saying it sounded really lame going on about a "special technique" that couldn't be revealed - like that's super cool or something.... *shrug*

the main thing to think about really, is that I notice amongst some ppl here a lot of tensions in posting & it's always going to lead to some ppl losing out like, maybe it did sound 'lame' about how they did it, but if every1 tried it it wouldn't work, the best chances would be if one or two ppl arranged it & ppl let them do that & just turned up, then more would get to do the meetup without fears of being shafted

The way I was planning on doing it was a 1st in best dressed for the 1st x( pre-arranged number agreed on by Dave) number of people. That was how I was going 2 do it, and take it through PM's and e-mails. (Same way I've read about it being done on his forum)

Thanks for explaining that Ian^, it makes much more sense, and shows more strings are needed to pull it off, which is what I was hoping for, not just a Syd vs Mlb issue. I'm nowhere near as bitter

Cheers,

hmm i don't think what i meant came across quite right....but it's late and i'm tired and i cbf...hehe........if organisin secret meet-ups with djs floats ppl's boats and makes em feel special, then more power to em i guess....but the whole elite "i have a super secret technique" thing just sounds a tad lame *shrug*

anyways....so, the UK TAs are a much more cohesive bunch than us aussies hey?? guess i'll have to see for myself when i'm livin there think they'll be nice to an un-cohesive aussie girl??

yeah, guess everyone has their 'ways' of doing so, but at the end of the day I do think it's a bit sad that regardless of what ppl think of armins music & style that they can't all pull together, maybe cos im so used to it amongst the majority of uk guys here who're a great lot and dont seem to disagree

again I can understand how this comes across as 'sneaky' or something but it was thought necessary to do so, and if it happens again, maybe more ppl would be invited, but again, if they invite too many, it makes the original organisational skills look bad

As for the UK.... well depends which bit ur staying in, obv we're not nearly as far apart as some in aus (syd to perth for example) due to the geographic nature, but there are several groups, the london lot for one, then the midlands, the northern ones, the scottish ones & the irish, a lot of that is just due to the ease of travel, that not everyone can travel 200 miles for one event, but on the big events they obv have big meetups, which bit u staying at ?

Don't get me started on you geezers... At the end of the day, what we write on here maybe negative, or bitchy, but all syd.au.ta's were @ his gig in sydney (except for the underaged - hi Matt_a ). How we get on IRL is a lil different to on here, just like any forum. Anyhow. Yeah. Thanks again.

We're in summer, you're in winter

Its got nothing to do with being elite,
its got to do with respecting armin's wishes, he didnt want a huge thing and i dont really blame him.
How would it be 25+ people all trying to talk to him at the same time, it wouldnt work.
And yes it was kept pretty low key, why because the first two failed and how can you advertise such a thing on a board like this, the members are growing by the day and not to mention all the people lurking the boards.
i am sorry people did miss out but at the end of the day thats the way the cookie crumbles. You can not make everyone happy.

i wasn't talkin about the fact that nobody was told....like i said, i didn't care at all if anyone got to meet armin....i was talkin about the "i have a secret technique which i'm gonna use to meet other djs now" thing....it just sounded funny to me....as in funny haha i wasn't saying she should reveal the technique....just meant it sounded a lil lame that sumbody would even bother mentioning the "i'm so cool cos i have a secret technique" thing at all!!! anyways, nuff bout that

and yeah, despite how it seems on here sumtimes, most of us who are geographically pretty close to each other get along great....it's not only UK.TA who feels the luv

I'll be living in London - getting there mid-August after 2 months travel thru rest of Europe....baptism will be Turnmills August 13 *lol* I'm committed to living in London for at least 3 months....if I'm liking it I'll stay - or else might go somewhere else in Britain......basically I'm free to do whatever the hell I choose til I gotta come back to Aus in June '05 Hmmm one of these days I should venture on over to UKTA forum

Well London...

Love it or hate it city, personally I'm not so keen on it for reasons like its very 'exclusive' and property is hugely overpriced, for example my home here in the midlands is worth maybe 110k but the same property in a london postcode would be worth maybe 800k+ min

the UK on the whole is pretty much going down the pan, sadly violent crime is up a lot but i think thats the case in most places now and obviously you'll need the precautions

Being from the midlands I think you should see some of our places, theres a lot of nice towns/cities, and it's a much more relaxed pace of life, suits me entirely though. if you need hooking up with ne of the london lot, just come post in the forum and you should get some offers from them, just beware that I'm in the 2% who dont get wasted in some sense or other
