CDs from 98/99 + 2002 Eras?

Hey all...

Just wanted to get some suggestions on the best CDs / livesets that really capture those "eras" above...

2002 altho not too long ago had a lot of great vocal/melodic tracks released... Esp the whole bunch of Armin remixes that came out (Solid Sessions - Janeiro, Riva - Time Is The Healer, Solar Stone - Seven Cities, Shane - Too Late To Turn, etc etc)... Also his own tracks in Sunburn, Dust.wav, Clear Blue Moon... I'm sure there are more to add to this list too?

Also you had Tiesto's Southern Sun remix + also his other tracks like Magik Journey, Close To You, etc... The first Oceanlab tracks came out... Ferry remixed Clear Blue Water beautifully Also he released Gouryella - Ligaya...

And on top of these other awesome tracks like Rapid Eye - Circa Forever + uhhh... mental block! Grrrrr! I'm sure you guys could add way more to this list...

Was there any one CD / liveset that captured the best of these tracks and put them all onto one compilation? I'm not really looking for something that only had a few of these tracks but a WHOLE bunch of them?!


Also with the 98/99 time as well... This was pretty much the time that I really started to plug into trance... And as such there are many many tracks from this time that are just absolute classics to me (+ I'm sure some of you guys too)...

Things like Lost Tribe - Gamemaster (might be earlier than 98?), System F - Out Of The Blue, Paul van Dyk - For An Angel, Blank + Jones - Cream... Gouryella - Gouryella... Lange - I Believe, Lost Witness - Happiness Happening... Most Matt Darey remixes from the time... Most Lange remixes from the time... Anything to do with the man Ferry (Moonman, System F, etc)! And more Ferry - who could forget Veracocha? Of course Armin - Communication, Rank 1 - Airwave, Dutch Force - Deadline... Chakra - Love Shines Through

I'm sure there are many many similar tracks that can be added to this too... But I'm getting damn tired... I think you all get the idea!


I haven't really done much searching for these types of CDs or livesets but wanted to know if any of you guys could straight away point out something or list a few things that in your mind captures what I am after...

I have a few CDs + livesets from these times mentioned but none really capture it all... There are things out there I'm sure I have never heard but would really love to hear!

I think many people might suggest Ferry's Innercity Set from Dec '99 but I already have this But I want MORE!


I am usually so obsessed with keeping up with the latest and greatest tracks that I seem to forget about these other times where trance also rocked + had many memorable tracks going around too... Some times it may be good to go back in time + discover new things or just simply relive the past?

Hope that you guys can help me out!

Can't go past Oakenfold - Tranceport for capturing the trance that was 1998.

Greece 2000... 1998... Awesome tunes! Cafe Del Mar, yes cool... But I think I may have grown a little tired of it through all the remixes + all... Maybe it's been too long since I heard the original?

And also Tilt - Invisible... Completely forgot about Tilt till I saw that tracklist! Also, some Kaycee tracks too... Can't remember them... I think it was Kaycee - Escape? Also some Space Brothers tracks too...


And I hope that when you say the "one CD" you understand that I am talking about two separate things for each era here?

And also it could quite well be a 3-4 CD compilation or a 3-4 hour set or something too don't forget?!

2002 there aren't many good mixed CDs, Tiesto's ISOS 3 is probably one of the best...

97-99 trance ........ *drools all over the place*

to match the sound that was produced in that period is extremely hard, any attempt at it these days will most likely turn out to be a big block of cheese !

HOLY FUCK YES!! This is without a doubt the best Gatecrasher compilation ever released. Both discs are fucken intense!! I love the first disc from 'Deep Blue Dream' through the next 2-3 tracks after it. Then the ending!!

See now i beg to differ, as yes Wet is a wicked compilation...but its all the big tunes which everyone knows about. Whereas it comes second best to Disco-tech due to its abundance of massive massive tracks which never really took off as much as they deserved.

Gatecrasher Wet and CG to Trance (ATB).. but all these tracklistings are bringing back memories..I still remember the first time I heard the guitar hook from 9pm..still get shivers down my back..

trance has been like a door for me, opening me up to so many new genres, and now, even though my appreciation for trance today is very limited, at least its led me in the right direction

Mine either. In it's place it has :Equate - Texture, Real - Oblivion, + TR Junior - Rock With Me(Lange Vocal Remix) I still can't believe the brilliant BRILLIANT melodies they used to come up with during this period. Now a days, it's just "make the biggest fucking phattest lead sound possible" and you have a winner. Oh well.

Yes but Discotech was an absoloute work or art. The intro for disk two is still one of the greatest trance intros ever.

Fuck, just hearing the beautiful strings from the original barbers adagio makes we want to cry. Whoever came up with that intro paved the way for William Orbits - Barbers Adagio for strings, then the Ferry Corsten remix. Now we're truley getting back to the pinicles of trance history.

The next two tracks are just fucking outthere. Melodic masterpieces at their best with thumpin thumpin kicks (kinda outdated by these days, but these were brilliant back in the day )

Also tonight, I'll be on RTR FM in Perth (www.rtrfm.com.au - you can listen to it online!) sometime between 1am and 6am (friday morning) perth time .. probably be on by 2am perth time i reckon playing some old trancey stuff that I have from 98 - 2000 that really didn't make it big on the compilations ..

Guaranteed trainwreck mixing for sure! I'll hopefully have it recorded and post it up tomorrow or something with a tracklist

Believe it or not I've never listened to Tranceport - looks like I've been missing out big time judging by those others posts regarding it!


As for the 2002 CDs (of which there was only one suggested) I guess it was pointless to pit such a minor "era" against the might of 98/99 in one post!

I was actually going thru old CD's before work this morning as i have been missing the sound of old trance. Have been listening to my faves Disco-Tech and Trance Nation 3 this morning and now playing I rate is almost at a tie with Disco-tech.
