Mk2 Vs Mk5e

Hi everybody,

I'm about to get a new setup and I can't decide if I should get the regular "oldschool" MK2's or invest a little more and get new MK5E's. But it's not even about the money as much, but more about the "classic" and "new" thing. Are the MK5's better? I'm pretty new to DJing so I don't know if the pitch reset button and not clicking pitch slider the MK5's have can be useful. What do you quys think?

I think they mean MK5G's . . . I would go ahead and get those if money is not an issue, they have some nice features and are advertised as Technics' new "flagship". I'm sure its the same build, just a few nicer things on it.

i think they might be called a bit different in Europe than in the US. In Europe the regular Technics MK5's (with 8%+/- pitch and the pitch reset button) are called MK5E and the MK5G's (with 16%+/- pitch) are called MK5GE. Actually the "E" might stand for "Europe", i guess.

Even if money isn't really an issue, you might as well get mk2's or m3d's and buy records or something with the extra, instead of wasting your cash.

I just ordered an MK5, didn't bother with the MK5G for a few reasons:

1) although the MK5G has a nicer black paintjob, it wasn't neccessary, and I got an MK5 in black instead.

2) although the MK5G has +/- 16% pitch control, I decided I would not need this. Why? I figured, every prior SL1200 model has had +/- 8% and people have gotten by with that for a long time... but more to the point, for the music I'll be spinning I just don't need this much pitch adjustment. +/- 8% means I can pitch up a 130bpm progressive trance track to 140.4bpm. Case closed.

3) MK5 is cheaper.

4) In the states the MK5G isn't available in a universal voltage model anymore (110/240 volt), and I need this incase I move back to Australia in the next few years. These are tables I want to keep for a long time yet. I hear that technics are phasing out all universal voltage models now actually, but the MK5 that I got my hands on is universal voltage so I guess they started by phasing out 110/240 volt versions of my MK5G (or maybe the MK5G is just stock that moves more quickly than the MK5). Anyway, I'd better save for my next deck really quick so I make sure I get a 110/240 volt model for my second deck too! It would suck otherwise!
