WHy hasnt hard dance and godskitchen caought on in canada
I posted this thought once on tribe and i got the usual load of bollacks for responses. The most common one was that torontians have more of refined taste then many other countries or something along those lines. However, i would beg to differ based on my clubbing expierence in the UK.
Thus let me put it too you then why has it not caought on?
Also let me ask this as well
Why is it that Godskitchen and gatecrasher have events in Australia new zealand and in hungrey even but not in canada?
Someone once told me that it would not sell here that the toronto market is to developed for it.
But i would think that with the usual line up for godskitchen that being armin, PVD fergie and mistress barabara in one night they would sell out in 5 seconds.
Also even the yanks have godskitchen now why is canada so far behind.
Considering how busy many places are with just one of the aforementioned djs
right well answer me then
swilly
Why? Because 90% of the major Toronto DJ bookings are controlled by a few individuals.

ummmm yea OK
why would u even care to see the name "godskitchen" at a party
what difference would that make to you?
?
like really? who gives a shit! its only a NAME...
the DJS (pvd, avb, whomever else) u mentioned sell out clubs here regardless of there being some uk superclub name behind it or not
why would a club like guv be interested in a partnership with another company when they can clearly draw enough people by themselves to their own events...
that and i just dont think people here would really care for something like that! and to be honest, why would they?

would be interesting to ask some of the local promoters this question .. i think that's prolly the best start

k i think i misunderstood your post
i thought u were going on about club nights not these big massive arena parties which is what u seem to be speaking of
ANYWHO
gk were @ meow a few summers ago for a night there with agnelli and nelson...
and i remember slinky + gc having nights @ turbo/guv
Gatecrasher also threw an event not too long ago with Syrous and brought in Matt Hardwick, Robbie Nelson (of Agnelli & Nelson), Max Graham, and DJ Dan.. not to mention all the dnb DJ's too ..
the days of the BLC

Ummm, anyone remember a party that had Anne Savage, Gabriel & Dresden, Infected Mushroom and Rank 1?
why isnt hard dance big in TO?
TO is too classy to dance that hard.
the guv shuffle wont suffice, and the DJ will think they are doing bad.
I would say Hard Dance is big in Calgary. compared to the biggest events, Hard Dance draws just as many people(and im looking forward to Farley and BK in 2 weeks hell yea)
Crasher did a tour, they came to Calgary twice, Slinky came 3 times.
heres what they did.
bring a laser(yea, the stealth was worth it) and the S/lion.
thats it.
lineups were the same as always, 1 maybe 2 djs
rob tissera/dave lee, Fergie/Tim Lyall, Guy Ornadel, Max Graham/Oakie, Sandra Collins
for the cost of the name, the revenue wasnt there...its teh same had it been a regular party.

The reason you see clubs like Gatecrasher booking five "quality" (and when you say quality i think you mean internationally popular) dj's in one night is because they can afford it. For a club like The Guvernment to cram that many expensive dj's for one night wouldnt make sense when night after night they sell to (and over) capacity. The Guv does do a great job for Ultra Spin and Labour of Love events to bring in PLENTY of talent for one evening i must say.

random thought: i could, in theory, go to a big uk festival this summer like gkgg, and i've done it several times before. BUT it doesn't interest me now at all. i'd rather hear a longer set from one or two djs that i really like, than a one to two hour set from 20 djs and run around from tent to tent. and i don't like hard dance
i think that i am just getting old and boring. i'll go back to my rocking chair and knitting now.
AND back to your discussion!
