totally un-trance related....
...but i was hoping someone might be able to help me.
I am considering coming to Australia to study at Bond Uni. I've done all the research over the net, but I still have some questions
1. whats the schools rep? its sounds all good and shit on their site, but i wanna get outsiders opinions
2. how expensive is it to live there (robina??) just south of brisbane
3. hows the telecommunications business there, for someone who has a degree in it?
4. whats the party scene like? currently i live in a Toronto suburb, and we have been blessed. just wondering what yer scenes like
anything u can tell me will be great. i am getting all excited, but i'm not sure WHAT i am getting myself into. thanks for anything/everything
not much a trance scene in brisbane is there?
im guessin it would be cheap to live but one of the brisbanians would have to answer that
come to nsw
its much better
we have an olympic sized swimming pool that is heated and indoors
melbourne gots one of those too... except ours is betta - our pool is hypercolour, its pink when hot, and blue when chilly
not to mention we've been ranked world's top city!!
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2...5854028808.html
way ahead of Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney
"Often derided as Bleak City by Sydneysiders, Melbourne topped a
survey of 130 cities, narrowly beating out the other four Australian
capitals surveyed - because its weather rated the best."

roflmao at Melbournes great weather...
but best city.....yes
Here we go again with the rivalry...
I don't why you guys feel like you have something to prove...
Heh, yeah, Melbournites always ready to tell everyone who's best...
i do happen to actually like melbourne a lot... just wish they'd shut up about it!
Oh, and Bond?
Better Buy a Degree
Bond
meeehh much the same rep for Degrees as Griffith Gold Coast campus I think - not worth much in any other state...
...would have to check it with some qld mates.
As for party scene well - All the peoples i know on TA are from Sydney/Adelaide/Perth/Hobart and Melgurn... Unfortunately dont know any Brissy TA's
There is occassionally the good Fortitude Valley party and Family does its thing but you would be hard pressed to find a 'local' scene of any great proportions that caters for just TRANCE.
Hmmm mebe I wrong cos haven't been back there for a couple of months but I say COME TO MELBOURNE!!!
sorry couldn't help ma self webby
well the water in our pools is lighter which makes it more aerodynamic AND we have a floating kebab stall

ok, so what.. should forget Bond??? and forget brisbane?? (wheres the brisbane supporters btw. theres gotta be someone!!) and I should move to melbourne?? unless that is just purely biased opinion
obviously i am not only gonna apply to Bond. anybody have any other good AUSTRALIAN universities i should try. i am going into criminology
thanks for all the responses so far
If you are doing criminology I take it you are doing a law degree? Bond University on the Gold Coast is run by Griffith University. They are supposed to have innovate course programs from people I have spoken to.
From personal experience I have a Law degree from the University of Queensland which is in Brisbane which is an hour north of the Gold Coast. I think however that from a job prospects experience having a law degree from University of Queensland (UQ)or Queensland University of Technology (QUT) would be better than a degree from Bond/Griffith University though. Both UQ and QUT are in Brisbane though and there are no beaches in Brisbane.
From a dance/party perspective AVOID Queensland at all costs. Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne have more prestigious universities than Queensland and Sydney and Melbourne have a much healthier club scene from what I read on inthemix.com.
From a budget point of view the cost of living in Queensland is much cheaper than Sydney and I would suspect Melbourne as well but I havent lived in Melbourne.

I'd definately recommend Brisbane and the Gold Coast if you were willing to put up with absolute MINIMAL trance parties.
Other aspects of everyday life are better here than down south

| Originally posted by one.tjc Well first off, I'm quie sure that bond is not run by griffith. as for job prospects -> bond has a 98.9% uptake -> so if you can ge a job after your degree.. you dont want one! also its degrees are held in high regard [maybe because they cost so much?! ]facilities @ bond are great [i especially like their 10mb internet ]it does cost a lot to go there [hence loads of americans/canadians there ]if you need any more info re enrolment or anything pm me -tjc [edit - Bond is australia's only Privately owned uni] |

| Originally posted by Fiction Have to Agree here, my friend who is a senior lecturer at Griffith would have a heart attack if he heard someone saying Bond was run by Griffith. As One.tjc mentioned it is private, but merely Australia's first private uni, there are others around now. I wouldnt say their degree's are held in high regard but they certainly dont have a negative reputation. The primary advantage of Bond is that they have 3 semesters, meaning you can get a 3 year degree in two, hence if you start work a year ahead of everyone else it slightly balances out the cost - roughly 35-40k AUD per year depending on your course, which isnt peanuts but then HECS isnt as user-friendly as it used to be... |
I humbly apologise to all. I thought a couple of years ago it had financial troubles and became a campus of Griffith. My bad
