-- Mixing while tired
Mixing while tired
I've been super busy all week. Finally, I had a chance to just chill out and spin for awhile tonight. I was/am really tired due to all the stuff I've had to do, but I was still really excited to spin. Of course, I completely sucked. I'm rather new, so I expect to suck somewhat, but I mean, I sucked just as bad as the first time I tried my decks. It was horrible. Even the track selection sucked, nothing fit together at all.
I guess mixing while your tired just isn't a good idea. I recorded the mix, listened to the first mix just now, and I think I'll just delete it, the whole thing is one big piece of shit.
performance on any skilled task (especially once that are not well learned) will decrease dramatically when tired.
I don't even bother spinning while tired....well unless I drink a beer or 4. either that or I will listen to some outstanding mixes and get pumped up...then I can mix pretty good.
Man... I can totally relate to you now. I was even thinking of posting how tired I've been lately and how much I wanna spin but I can't cause it never works for me like that. Crazy how that works...
Yeah I hear that...I've been putting together my promo for this month for the last 2 hours and there were times I couldn't even pitch bend properly. Oh well, off to bed. Sleep more!
Had the exact same problem for about a month (exams). I didn't have any fun spinning, not even new records or something. I think i've only spinned 5 hours or so in a month. Anyway, now i'm having fun all over again, very weird, because i feared i was already losing it (only been into this for 6 months now
)
so true...makes you appreciate how the big time djs do it, flying all over the world...its really hard to do when you're tired.
I use to spin after only getting 4 hours sleep before... I could do it, but never satisfied with my tracklist.
Oddly enough, I spin better prog house when I'm fatigued.
I have to be wide-freakin-awake to spin some energetic trance, though...otherwise it's just embarrasing.

practicing when tired can really suck, although sometimes i end up getting into it and it turns out well, i noticed my best practice sessions are always right when i wake up

Yes, mixing while tired is difficult, but the worst for me, is mixing if i feel sad for some reason. If i try to mix that way, the track selection is the worst possible...

i get up at 5:30 every morning to go to school, and get home around 7:30 (basketball for 2 hours after school, and i live about an hour from school). then i shower, eat, and then do my work... sleep anywhere from 1-3.. not very healthy i know, but i make up the lost sleep in the weekends for sure. so yeah i usually dj when im tired, and i guess ive gotten used to it and am quite alright.
but i gotta admit, my best practice sessions are right when i wake up in the morning or after a nap

two conditions when i can't mix for sh*t:
-over-tired. not just normal tired but like i've been lacking sleep for days and days and days...
or
-very hungry. sounds stupid but i can't do anything on an empty stomach. lol

I guarantee, when you are pished or tired, you only think you are mixing better!!
mixing when you are tired just plain sucks..
mixing when you're tired can be a problem.. because mixing is mainly about expressing how you feel through music. therefore, when you're tired (or even hungry) it will reflect through your mixes. here's a trick that i use to help mix when i'm tired.
take two hydroxycuts about twenty minutes before your set. the combination of herbs and stimulants totally boosts your energy and will help you spin a much better set. drinking coffee or strong black tea also helps.. but hydroxycut gives me a good lift.
your creative expressions are shown through your track selection and how well your mixes flow.. so it totally makes sense that the set you spin won't be as good when you're tired.
pEy
I can surely relate, cuz I tried making a promo mix one day after I had been raving all night and I stunk. I also see my drunk DJ friend suck after a few beers and they think they're tearing it up.
