FACT: not more than 0.1 % of them will have ever visited anfield, which IMO does not make them a true supporter, and 50% of those who visited probably returned after the game to find their car on bricks (probably not a FACT, but more than likely true anyway)

So you believe that if you do not visit the ground, then you are not a true supporter? In some retrospects id agree with you, but then others i wouldnt. The bigger clubs, allot of people are glory supporters, the smaller, they go through it being in their home town. I support Derby, iv not been to a game since 97, when we beat coventry 3-1 at pride park, and my last away game was when derby played stags in the FA=Cup last year, and we wont 2-1 (i think lol). I listen to every game on the radio and buy the new football shirts all the time. Am i a true supporter? lol i bloody well hope so!

i used to go to a few boro games back when i lived at home but it was too expensive to have a season ticket.

me neither

they arent especially big in china, which is where the most fans are
probably stockport are bigger cos theyve got huge chinese following due to being first team to ever tour over there
the mighty palace similarly have a large asian following due to signing oriental players

I'm at Uni in Liverpool and I think this is a bit of a myth. I generally see more Liverpool shirts in the streets than Everton, although obviously I can't say whether these people are tourists/students or genuine scousers. I've met a lot of scousers behind both teams so I'd say it's a pretty close call - the way it should be.

Haven't been to Goodison Park yet but I was in Anfield with about 7,000 other Newcastle fans as Liverpool beat us 2-1 in the cup. I was annoyed to see that thousands upon thousands of Newcastle fans made the 175 mile trip to see their team beaten unceremoniously whilst Liverpool fans failed to fill their ground for this knockout clash against their current league rivals. Compare that to the 52,000 Newcastle fans who filled St James' Park to see their side embarrassingly dumped out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle...by West Brom. Some things are being taken for granted.

Dunno, Liverpool's a glory supporting club same as Man Utd. I went to John Moores and most of the Liverpool fans there weren't from Liverpool. Also some of my scouse mates said people at Anfield get pissed off with the amount of glory supporters there..

Posted by evil_bastard on Mar-06-2004 17:51:

I'm at John Moores. I know what you mean, a lot of the Liverpool fans around are students from around the country. Everton fans like to make out that Everton is "the people's club" and Liverpool is a tacky tourist outfit, but then they would say that. I get the impression it's a pretty even split.

Certainly Liverpool has much more support outside the city than Everton. I was surprised by the number of fans inside Anfield from all over England and Ireland. That's why there are songs such as "Have you ever seen a scouser in the kop?" and "Taxi for London". It must piss off a lot of the scousers that they can't get season tickets, but this is a growing problem elsewhere. The last Newcastle game I went to at St James' we were surrounded by people with southern accents - blatantly students - who didn't give a crap about the result. It's one of the many reasons why atmospheres in stadiums all over Britain are dying.

I don't have a problem where the supporters are from, so long as they care about their team and don't take their place in the stadium for granted. People who keep passionate fans out of the ground and then leave before the game is even finished really hack me off.
