trancEaddict Mp3 DJ Mix Competition V

Closing date for DJs: 1st March
Closing date for mixes: 1st April
Closing date for results: 1st May

THIS IS NOT A TURNTABLE MIX COMPETITION

There will be no exceptions for DJ entry, however exceptions will be made if people are having problems uploading with slower connections. My suggestion is to send your mix to somebody with a fast connection for them to upload.

Mixes must be submitted in 160kbps Mp3 quality, CBR or VBR, no Mp3-Pro files are allowed.

Mixes must be 60 to 80 minutes in length

You may mix with:
1. Mp3s in Real Time (Traktor was the most used for the last one)

All DJs must state how they have made their set, ie which program used.

All mixes must be recorded live, no using multiple mixes and sticking the best transitions together.
You may plan and practise your mix, but not to the point that it becomes robotic.

All mixes must be uploaded with a tracklist, a cue sheet would also help. You may combine both into the cue sheet, but remember not all CD writers support that type of cue sheet so be careful when burning.

Contestants may not also be a judge, you have the choice to be either, not both.

You may not download other contestants mixes.

You must mix trance, this rule bends as far as progressive and hard trance. Contestants will be disqualified for extended use of non-trance music.

Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
A percentage will then be calculated from these three areas to give a better comparison.

You must actually mix to gain marks, snapping together of tunes is not allowed. That is not really DJing.

All judges will have to be appoved by me and will only be accepted as long as nobody else has any problems. Judges must take this duty to mix seriously. All mixes must be marked on skill and the way the contestant progresses their mix, NOT ON PERSONAL OPIONION OF THE CONTESTANT OR THE SONGS HE WISHES TO MIX. Although contestants must abide by the tracklist rules.

Judges and Administrators have the right to reserve and change/ammend these rules.

Posted by DjCommisad on Feb-07-2004 22:30:

oh u know u need your resident trainwreck dj. count me in to compete.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but keep an eye on the "trance" rule this time, I saw some tracklists, and although I didn't hear any of the mixes last time, some of them may have strayed a bit from trance.

Posted by Shad0wmaster on Feb-07-2004 22:32:

and we also need our resident direct opponent to dj commisad i'd like to be a competitor!

(please enter me as Phna Proxima)

Posted by DjCommisad on Feb-07-2004 22:37:

As I remeber you had the same score as me in 3rd competition (78/100)isn't it? Let's see how u'll handle that now.

Posted by TwoHardCore on Feb-08-2004 16:39:

Well I'd like to enter a mix into the competition, but for the rule quoted below:
quote:
You may mix with:
1. Mp3s in Real Time

I do not have hardware capable of this, but I certainly can produce and guarantee an upload of a mix for the competition (the # of mixes upped for the past couple comp's has been lacking).

If you guys can bend on that rule, then add me as a competitor. If not well, I'll just read about it .

THC

Cool

Count Me In As Sonorescent. Competitor

Posted by john2 on Feb-08-2004 21:58:

Count me in too

Posted by DjKronik on Feb-09-2004 05:10:

I know this might seem like a silly question but from what I have read is this an mp3 mixing comp only meaning no mixes done using records cd's etc? If all mixes are allowed then count me in.

Posted by Shad0wmaster on Feb-09-2004 05:18:

nope, this comp is for MP3 dj's only. if you spin with vinyl/CDs, you want Battle of the Mixers.

Posted by DjKronik on Feb-09-2004 05:21:

Thanks for the help.

Posted by djsphere on Feb-09-2004 05:55:

I have a question for mr_sick.

Our sets can be posted somewhere else only after the competition?

Posted by trancintaiwan on Feb-09-2004 05:55:

When the results are out u can do whatever you want with your mix

Posted by Rocco on Feb-09-2004 17:43:

NOTE for ALL competitors:

PLEASE READ ALL THE RULES. this competition works on the "buddy trust" system. Not that it's impossible to tell if the set is cheated or not...but comeon now... fairplay or no play at all.
