Has Tiesto come to Canada recently? just curious

has Tiesto ever played Toronto before esp. Guverment...im a newbie to this whole scene so please dun mind the question...anyways i wouldnt mind hearing him spin live there :-D too bad his 10 hour concerts are only abroad as of now xP (may 10 2003) i heard that was SIIICK. I mean, yeah I know a lot of ppl think he's sold out or is not as good as back in the day but he still has his moments

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Feb-08-2004 13:25:

He's been to Toronto 6 or 7 times in the last 4 years, his most recent gig was in June at the Docks. He'll be back again sometime in the Spring, most likely June.

He doesn't really like the Guvernment.

correct me if i'm wrong , but i think these were all his gigs in TO:

Wintergalactic I - Feb. 2000
Spin Sat @ Guvernment - Aug. 2000
Wintergalactic II - Feb. 2001
N. American Tour @ Warehouse - Oct. 2001
Area 2 Festival - July 2001
N. American Tour @ Koolhaus - Dec. 2002
Nyana Tour / Jet 2 Ibiza @ The Docks - June 2003

i think that's about right.... i don't think he's a big fan of Toronto like most other major club cities.

edit: one of my buddies went to his dec gig and she didn't enjoy it too much...
I was underaged by a couple of weeks for the Docks gig but i heard the set. It was a nice set specially coming out of Tiesto.. kinda rare to hear a good set by him as of late.

I heard his first Toronto gig was at the Guvernment in the summer of 2000 in the main room. The place was half full, the cover was 10 bucks and nobody knew who the hell he was except for a few diehard fans. Maybe this was the August 2001 gig? But no...Tiesto was huge by 2001.

What I would have given to have been at that gig when it was half full.......a Tiesto gig will NEVER EVER be like that again.

And Rocco, it's not that he's not a big fan of Toronto...he wrote on his headphones at the Docks set that "Tiesto (heart) T.O." and has said in interviews that he loves Canada. But he doesn't like the Guvernment. This frat guy I know worked in a cafe in Ibiza in the summer (frats have connections damn them) and Tiesto came in for a drink one day. So this this fratty talked with him, snapped a few pics. Apparently, Tiesto said he hates the Guvernment and the owner, but loves the atmosphere of the Docks.

Interesting little story anyway....and there's probably truth in it.

yes .. you're right. i stand corrected, it was AUGUST 2000. I was even there ! LOL..

and yeah it's true .. the club was about 3/4 full that night and only about half the ppl there knew who he was. I was close to not getting in as well since i was a few dollars short of cover but a friend managed to get us on the reduced list. i didn't even have money for a drink (back in the poorer days).

Anyhow, the party was awesome .. his set was unbelievable. basically dropped 85% of the same stuff as his Innercity 2000 set. It was funny cuz when we first got in we saw some bald guy on the decks and thought it was Tiesto , but i actually think now that it was a bald MArk Oliver. lol.. Anyways , they also had this guy playing a precussion set on some electronic drums which was REALLY cool. By the end of the night, there were liquid dancers came out laying it all out beneath the glow of some blacklights (which don't exist anymore). This was all back in the day when Guv still had a "rave" like crowd..

anyways .. all in all again a great party and just glad that i had a chance to witness a set like that! classic!

It must've been july 12th or smth. Cause I saw him in Mtl on July 15 for Oasis. It was my first big party, that's why I remember.

Posted by kwongandy on Feb-08-2004 17:18:

i went to all of them except for the guv gig. for some reason, i believe the guv gig was on a thursday? it was cheap, $10 or $15?

I've caught him 3 of those times. First time in October 01 was the best (for me anyway) then after that he just became how he is now...

you weren't impressed with his June gig at the Docks? Even Tiesto in Concert? You must be hard to please.

sure they can dislike it...I just can't see why...but I was there and it looked to me that 95% of the people were having an amazing time.

I get the feeling a lot of people are closet Tiesto lovers...go to his gigs, buy his stuff and secretly love him, but then bash him in public.

Posted by 7-4-7 on Feb-08-2004 19:52:

..all that I know was his Docks gig was the craziest night of my entire life. Bar none. He blew my mind.I think that Tiesto would be wasted in Guv, Kool house would be a better venue, The docks was just ridiculous.

3000 people moving the exact same way for 6 hours, all smiles. uuuurrggg...

His first gig had to have been Wintergalactic in Feb 2000. Flyer was in the shape of a snowflake and it said first NA appearance didnt it?

bc i was at the Spin saturday event and i think it was my 2nd time seeing him.

Ive been to 5 of those 7 shows missing wintergalactic 1 and this summer at the docks, but made up for it by seeing him at Love from Above in Berlin, and at a Club in Copenhagen.

apparently i think it was "instyle" not too long ago to bash Tiesto .. kinda like it was with Oakenfold.. everyone had to jump on the bandwagon. DJ's always take a lotta heat when they get voted #1.. all eyez on u syndrome .. plus ppl get easily bitter when their respective fav DJ isn't voted #1 and they feel like they should be. but the vote isn't the only reason a DJ get bashed, it has a lot to do with their acceptance among the mainstream media as well.. but ANYWAYS ..

the flyer that ur referring to is the WGII one. the WGI one was black and white and printed on this cheap green paper. Tiesto's name was printed in a pretty small font too lol ..

That night at the docks was unbeleivable...wednesday June 11th..

only the true "hands in the air" fans came out, not the the main "clubbing" crowd that seems to infest these types of parties on weekends.

The energy was just off the hook, i felt that i was at Amnesia in Ibiza!

Ive never witnessed a Toronto crowd that enthusiastic.

p.s It was also recorded, so I will forever have that memory relived in detail....you can even hear us chanting "TIESTO TIESTO TIESTO" 5 or 6 times during the set!

It was an ok party. I liked his set and the overall party more at KH 01.

Did you loose your sense of hearing and sight that night???

Also...dr Goodvibe hosted a vid he shot that night that proved its craziness!

Too bad i couldnt save it.

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Feb-09-2004 02:05:

well i hope he DOES come to Toronto...and its too bad he doesnt like the Guverment because him spinning at the Kool Haus wid its sound system would kick ass :-) but whatever...i like the scene in TO so much i would go wherever he decided to spin :-)

Posted by dartrance on Feb-09-2004 02:20:

Tiesto is hit and miss, but when he does play good the whole night is unbelivable

His set at the palace dec 2002 in calgary is still one of the greatest i ever heard

Hopefully he tours canada soon again

Posted by malek on Feb-09-2004 04:43:

last time he was in Canada was in Novembre (Nov 2) at Living in Montreal. It was a Sunday, the day after he was officially named #1 again.

Nope. I liked the tracks he was playing, just not how he was playing them. That's all. As for the atmosphere it was a good party...that's it. Didn't make me go insane or want to go mad with pleasure or anything like that. I just had a fun time. The last half of the set was killer though. All those classics. Reminds me of Carlos's set at one of the TA invasions (Except his set was better than even Tiesto's at that night imo).

13 Juin? Does that mean he'll be in TO on the 11th Again?

as much as I'd rather not wait that long, Tiesto doubleheader + summertime + weekend =
