why dont grammies include a dance music category?

what's the deal here? they have a category for every type of music except for dance/trance? that's f'ing bull. did anybody catch it last night? beyonce can take home 5 grammies and they can't devote just 1 category to trance? i mean dam at least nominate some of the more commercial songs like bt's somnambulist. That was getting major radio play over here and the grammies totally overlooked it not even 1 nomination. it just makes me sick what's going on here. its no wonder beyonce won so much considering she is ALL they play over here on both the radio and mtv. She was basically competing against herself. Its just getting ridiculous and so out of hand that there's so much good music out there going to waste and not being appreciated by award shows such as the grammies.

even if they did have dance, its hardly gonna be the trance we like

Posted by beema on Feb-10-2004 01:24:

Yeah, it's lame. But what are you gonna do? It's America!
I'm actually sort of glad, it means less chances for the pristine EDM world and the grungy pop world to intermingle. Keep pop away from EDM and vice versa
I guess the only way for and EDM producer to win under the current system is for "Best Remixed Recording" like Deep Dish did in 2002.

Posted by DeviantxPete on Feb-10-2004 01:25:

I don't want to see DJ Sammy, Lasgo, Milk Inc, etc. nominated for the grammys. That'd freak me out.

Posted by dj tek on Feb-10-2004 01:39:

because its not big in the states at all.. having a best remix categorie is a big step itself..

Posted by Salem on Feb-10-2004 01:50:

HEH

oh jesus dont let corperate america get ahold of edm, cause with in years they will have it run to the ground, harrased, and dirty, look at hip hop

Posted by INDY on Feb-10-2004 01:54:

because its for wanksters!

the way I see it, if the Grammy's had a dance category, they would be promoting the drug use that surrounds it.

As opposed to half the shit rap and hip hop song lyrics include...
Killing bitches, shooting, gangs, cocaine, raping etc etc
Jeez...i would hate to live in a world with happy and peaceful E users. Lets all become like America, listen to rap and hip hop and develop highest crime rates in the world..cool.

Peace Out

actually.. they do... 1 for best dance recording(solo, group, collaborative performances...vocal or instramental) pretty much covers anything that can be construed as dance music.... went to Kylie Minogue- Come Into My World
Dirty Vegas won last year, they don't understand what a culture dance music has...

Roger Sanchez won a grammy for his remix of No Doubt's "Hella Good" so there.

EDIT: Last Year

so what? i doubt it would make the music any better. I can't speak for other countries but americans who like edm REALLY like it. We (americans) had to go against the grain and find edm ourselves. that said, if you add the common american into the picture, producers will make music for the masses. feck that. i could be totally wrong tho considering the popularity in europe

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Feb-10-2004 03:33:

They still should have a freakin trance category!

like Dj Tiesto and PVD or something.. when i went to virgins.. allot of people seemed to buy there stuff. even here in OHIO!

Posted by TheTornado on Feb-10-2004 04:08:

Why the HELL does anyone want any type of EDM to have a Grammy category? It's a bunch of old white people who don't know shit about shit! The Grammys are dumb with the exception of Outkast winning album of the year.

Posted by tranceDJ on Feb-10-2004 04:24:

The grammys need to be seperate from EDM. If anything, there should be a electronic music awards or something in Europe...however it would have to be organized by people who know good EDM so people like DJ Sammy wouldn't even be nominated.

I think the MTV awards have a 'dance' category but it's basically the same thing as their 'pop' category...music award shows like this and the grammys are bullshit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, theres the DanceStar USA awards which are basically like the grammy's for EDM in the U.S.

yes it is... i was waiting for someone to say it.

You have a point there, Dance music has been around since the 70s and its deserves its own catagory even if it had cheesey type of dance music.

The grammys will include EDM one day. The way EDM has taken off in the last 15 years is unreal. I live in Chicago & 10-15 years ago a Dj would have gotten paid a couple hundred bucks for a night. Now PVD/Tiesto/Picotto (among many many other) get paid $10000- $30000 for a show here in the states & they always pack the house. So what im saying its just a matter of time before they get the reconition & have thier own Grammy catagory.

Posted by keddo on Feb-10-2004 09:31:

to hell with grammies !

Posted by arctic on Feb-10-2004 09:47:

Hold on, I thought the Grammies did have a dance category. From memory, this year it was won by Kylie Minogue (I only know because she's an Australian, no cheese listener accusations please). And yes, she is more pop than dance, but this is the Grammies here, that isn't the point!
