I've always known this, and I've also always known the actual meaning of the word Aria, which is why I'm perplexed to a certain extent.

The definition of Aria is "a solo vocal piece with instrumental accompaniment, as in an opera."

What does this have to do with Electronica, or even after-hours? Is the DJ supposed to be the "vocalist" that plays "solo" with an instrumental background?

Maybe i'm metaphorically dumb, mais j'y comprends pas, ostie!

I was also wondering why Aria's own info line pronounces it "AREA". Fix that shit!

Posted by malek on Feb-10-2004 04:39:

it also mean

"a striking solo performance"

Posted by kate on Feb-10-2004 05:33:

Maybe by definition it's that, but it can also be just a single melody.

I'm proud to say I've always pronounced it right!

Posted by malek on Feb-10-2004 06:01:

for sure, cause you have italian blood in ya

for the n00bs, aria originates from Italian.

Hah, i'm from Toronto/Cali and i've always pronounced it as "ah-ri-ahh". What threw me off was all of the local montrealers who called it "area". They almost had me believing that was the correct pronunciation, but i guess i'm just too stubborn

Aria

For those who can remember the 80's Toronto band the Spoons. They Had a song "Aria's and Symphonies" ...... singing along in harmony!

Malek, I noticed in the Mauro Picotto set voiceover at the beginning, she says "AIR-EE-AH" - isn't it "ARRR-EE-AH" ?
