The Trance-scene: biggest scene on the internet?

I was wondering this for quite a while, but are there other communities this big that talk/discuss/review/remix/download/chat about for example R&B, Rock, Jazz etc as we do for trance music?

In tance you find the most remixes, I'm sure about that. What about other genres

I think the trance scene is pretty unique, everyday there's tons of news releases (not to mention the live sets, which are not seen in other scenes; "hey, U got the newest Limp Bizkit set form last night? Yeah, it rocked. Also check their newest remix the made of that new Korn track").

Maybe I'm just short-sighted (I don't care). What's yours opinions about this?

Posted by noikeee on Feb-12-2004 11:35:

i'm pretty sure that trance has the biggest online community of electronic music.. example, it's way easier to find rips from trance tracks than from obscure d'n'b, techno and such. but there must be probably bigger boards than this just for a couple mainstream bands

But I was talking about music-scenes actually...in the whole, not for just one band or something. I mean, a band makes an album every 2 year, so not so much to talk about everyday I guess....

i seem to remember sum1 posting a thread with the most popular online communities (TA was about no. 100). I think there was a hiphop board at no 2 or 3

i'd have to agree. since hiphop is built around the "4 elements" of b-boys, graffitti, djs, and MCs, what do you think would be the equivalent for trance or the EDM scene in general?

Posted by jp on Feb-12-2004 17:19:

Me thinks the online gaming scene is by far the biggest

In music trance has a leading role on i-net

Posted by Lira on Feb-12-2004 18:47:

Underground hip hop and drum'n'bass sure have bigger communities...

Posted by sandstorm03 on Feb-12-2004 19:03:

in the music catigory...trance/prog/house/techno...edm definately is the biggest scene from rock/pop/rap/hip hop since imo edm is the most diversified/wide spread music in the world. underground hip hop is def not larger then edm

Posted by Lost Inhibition on Feb-12-2004 23:12:

i was gonna say, drum and bass has a massive (hehe ) following online, along with hiphop

No it's not, and hip hop is EDM for that matter. You only think techno/trance/house have more genres because that's what you know better. Check this site out and find out that even ska has more sub-genres than you could ever imagine.

Like I said, hip hop is edm so in the end it makes no difference.

"You only think techno/trance/house have more genres because that's what you know better." In how many countries do people listen to hip hop?

hip hop may be ED, but its not music. So it doesnt count. Are you gonna say Brintey spears is edm too now? And wtf does the amount of sub-genres mean.

Surely in all countries from North America, South America, Central America, Europe and most countries from Africa, Asia and Oceania, you'll find a hip hop scene.

Why isn't hip hop music? If hip hop is not music, nor is techno, since they share the same root, Electro.

Modern pop evolved from synthpop and hip hop, which comes from house and electro. So, yes, as sad as it may sound to you, it is electronic music (listen closely to the tunes, it's blatantly made with synths/computers), it is dance music (well, it's intended to be ), so it is EDM too. What else could it be?

It means that the more sub-genres you have, the larger the diversity is, which means the larger the scene is also (usually). As for jazz, you have New Orleans Jazz, Boogie Woogie, Classic Jazz, Dixie Land, Folk-Jazz, New Orleans Brass, Ragtime, Trad Jazz, Big Band, Progressive Big Band, Swing, Bop, Modal Music, Neo Bop, Hard Bop, Free Jazz, Free Funk, Jazz-Funk, Soul Jazz, Brazilian Jazz (I guess this is Bossa Nova), Fusion and many many more.

EDM may be the most popular kind of music nowadays (if you include hip hop and modern pop), but trance has not one of the largest scenes, that's for sure.

Please expand on that comment, how is it not music?

I basically agree with everything that Lira has said, this is definitely not the biggest community on the net, although I get the feeling that for some reason, some people would like it to be...

It's been a minute since I started visting this board again, but what the FUCK are you talking about. That's gotta be the most ridiculous thing I've heard all week. Thanks for starting off my weekend on a hilarious note, "SandStorm".

Posted by zag2me on Feb-13-2004 19:50:

As with any "community" it is very difficult to look outside. there are many larger forums and scenes on the net, trance is just one of them.

I seen forums with over a million posts, I think that was just for a single game site too.
