Circus After hours--Official opening this week-end--

HI2UALL,
since that first thread was hater filled, here's the real deal.
Circus's official opening (for the media, and official press, etc.)
the scenesters just had an "avant-go�t" for the past three weeks.

So without further ado:

WOW !!

Funny to see that it's now the THIRD official opening of Circus !!

I don't wanna be rude or anything but half the city of montreal's been to circus now ... don't u think a new attitude towards your promotion would be nice ? Like trying to get people to the club by other means that trying to make people think that it's the first week-end the club is opened ??

Btw ... u seem to have the same promoting ideas as 514/sona ... funny thing

well actually they are trying to make only ONE official opening, and this is it... trust me the last thing we want is four thousand official openings. the club was running saturdays only, now fridays are started also, and this is just a big weekend to say to everyone that circus is set up now, and will be open every wknd friday and saturday.

it's not really an official opening, in that sense. but the club never had an "official" opening because the first saturdays were planned as one-offs, with the idea that the club would open permanently somewhere down the road.. now the club is open permanently, that's the message.

anyways, i still hear where you're coming from.

note that the flyer/poster does not say "official opening" anywhere, that is something slm has chosen to add



and yes, maybe half the city has already been, but there has only been a bit of promo and locals playing up til now (although the club will continue to focus on locals on a weekly basis) this wknd is special cause ken ishii is coming from japan.

looks like we will have to work hard to convice some people here that circus is a fun place. anyways, all are entitled to your opinions, but at least you should check out the place and the vibe one time, it wouldn't hurt. plus it is hopeless for me, or anyone, to try to convince you that it's happening, until you actually see it for yourself.

now that's what i call good promotion , but it's true that the majority of us have a preferred place (no need to name it)

personally, i like it when new afterhours clubs open in montreal..

aria, u ppl never stopped dissing it in the beginning..now u all love it...i love it too, its my favourite club!

its not about dissing the other club...TAs are a group of people that know something else about techno than....boum boum and party....so its f***ing normal that we prefer an after-hour that brings sooooo many awesome djs than one that about all his promotion is based on "original place and new stuff and wooden floors etc..."
for example, i would definitly go to circus if they book Vitalic this summer while hes in qc...you know..

and btw, none of the people i know on this board AND not on this board too has diss aria and now go there!

this is what u THINK, if u were here during the end of 2001 as i remember (could be wrong), ppl were whinning the whole time at how many times aria cancelled events and wouldnt return money for tickets bought or something..

and its not necessarily for an after-hours club to bring some1 like tiesto on their opening day....clubs gain attention as time goes by!

im sure that if they know how to manage it well, its gonna become famous as well.

i wasnt here at that time so you must be right, but if its the case, it prooves even more what i wanna say....aria has brought some nice djs etc so that people would go there often and they became bigger and bigger....
thats what I comp�red to promoting the "place itself"...

anf btw, im not saying that i wont go anywhere until they bring my superstars djs....only that it helps....especcially on a techno (trance...) board..

I've noticed you guys being a bit harsh towards this guy, give him a break, and ease off Aria mofos! This is not an Aria board although it is dominated by Aria peeps, and it is mainly an afterhours club msg board, so just let him post, try the club and if he brings in class acts then i will be there (class acts being trance, breaks and funky house hint hint)

I realy don't mind the hating, just proves insecurities.

If I'm not mistaken, Ken Ishii is a big timer that brings it proper.
So does Nuclear Ramjet. I rest my case.

first of all, i dont know what you mean by Aria guy?? i dont have anything to do with aria besides the fact i go there often...that being said, i dont know why the f*** i should apologize to you, youll have to clarify that....and theres no bit of hate in what i said in the past...I AM GIVING MY OPINION, LIKE IT OR NOT

i dont know anything about Circus, exept what has been said here lately....so i dont HATE it......... if I said something that may have hurt you, JUST DONT TAKE IT SO SERIOUSLY
you might need to look around a little in the mtl forum.....its not hard to see that not everyone has same opinion etc, but when we meet, were all TAs and we can have fun...

and yeah LOL, i feel REAAALLLy insecure....... ABOUT WHAT!?!??!?!
btw, in my last posts i was only arguing with milanster cause of the dissing etc....so next time, just dont read my post, maybe ill be better

AND FOR Ken Ishii, he might be good, again its a matter of taste, opinion...no problem with that....but personaly it doesnt attrack me, and i'll wait to see something I wanna see...if he was at aria i wouldnt go just because of the place....

anyway, all this is so funny, its only (pardon me i dont know that word in english) "plein de malentendus"!!!!

P.s.s. Ken ishii isn't that big time dj i was there last time he was in mtl ... he was good ... but never a minute as good as preach Vs. Marco G. As far a nuclear ramjet ... yeah they're pretty good thos it's not my kind of beat.

Anyway good luck with the new club i just hope that it will last long !!

first of all, i dont feel that i'm being dissed here, or anything. message boards are good because people can freely express opinions, no matter what they are.

the whole "big DJ/ promoting the club" things that you're saying are very right, and bring up an interesting debate... there's no doubt that what circus has done is invested more in the space's design than in the artists we bring, and the sound and lights.. it's a different concept -which i think is good, mostly cause it's different, and there may be room for that in montreal.

on the other hand yes, ken ishii is an international DJ (wether you like him or not... ), the first one that circus has brought... don't expect them on a weekly basis, its not gonna happen. re. chicago-style. mighty kat plays at circus on a regular basis... expect to hear her again on a saturday soon.

i think the producer / DJ distinction is one that has been lost in the last ten yrs, as the rave scene and electronic music scene has grown and become more of a commercial commodity, artists build their international rep on their releases (CDs, records) instead of their DJ sets. its cheaper to send CDs all around the world than it is to take a plane yourself with a bag of a hundred vinyls. because of this many "international DJs" don't even have a comparable level of DJ skill to someone like, say, eddy jasmin (for example) who spends his entire week DJing.. he may not be recognized in Paris, or London, but can string a dozen records together way better than a lot of "international DJs"...the props that i read here for locals at aria (for example, once again) just supports that notion.

Looking forward to tonight... not sure if I will dig the tunes that much, but should be fun!
