tiesto - magik 1 (to show him how beautiful trance can be)

pvd - otab (to make him see how versatilely edm is, not just umfz umfz umfz)

tiesto - live @ energy 2000 (to get the power n energy thru his speakers that trance is actually able to give )

what u think? any other ideas? hurry cauze i goto play that shit to him in a few minutes

PVD @ Trance energy 2003, excellent set

D:Fuse - People 2 (GOOD trance, no cheese. Two discs, 1 is chillout/laid back stuff, the other is a clubbing disc thats groovier/harder)

Underworld - Anthology (Underworld can do anything... plus the order of the tracks is placed as a timeline of their work, starting in 1992, which can give a newbie a good idea of where things have come from)

The Best of Platipus mixed by Anthony Pappa (This is pretty much where your modern trance comes from. Teach him his proper roots. Two disc's of Platipus' best shit up to about 99 or so. No anthems, just classic acid trance.)

name correction: It's Paul van Dyk live @ Energy Festival, Zurich, August 10th, 2003. Trance Energy is held in Late January/Early February, not August.

And, HELL YEA, that is a KILLER set!

CRUSSSHHHH!!!!

I was about to suggest that even thought it is more epic house than trance.

PVD - Politics of Dancing (Either one)
Sasha - GU09 Disk 2 San Francisco
Oakey - Resident 2 Years of Oakenfold @ Cream (Either One)

PVD cause it's just a kick ass set.
Sasha cause, well... he's the Godfather of it all.
I know I dog Oakey nowadays, but he deserves props on that one.

Oakenfold - Tranceport - this is the CD I start everybody off on when I want to introduce them to trance.
Tiesto - In Search Of Sunrise 3 - one of my favorite albums of all time
Sasha - GU013 Ibiza - good for introduction into prog

If you're saying that Energy 2003 is a cheesy or boring set, you've got issues.

And insinuating that I know nothing about trance, well. Here's my response to that.

Staying on topic, if you can get Oakenfold's 1999-2000 Essential Mix World tour livesets, those are great listening, too.

Posted by vswede on Feb-17-2004 16:40:

dj tiesto - in search of sunrise 2!

this brought me into trance!!

Posted by GQMr2 on Feb-17-2004 23:13:

#1: PvD Global
#2: Tijs ISOS 3
#3: fOakey Tranceport 1

i would most easily replace #3 but these are the must have for drawing someone into trance
