I always knew what a gino was, cuz I lived in a rooming house in Otario when I was a student there and there was this guy named Gino, originally from Cabbagetown. Fun times. 35 years ago.

The term does not come up much in Western Canada. Although in Vancouver there is a big Gino/Gina population near Commercial Drive. Funny thing, I was in a gun store on C.D. last summer and it was run by Ginos, they were all speaking Italian, taking the pistols from the gun display cases and moving them to a back room where they would be locked up in a safe overnight.

When I came across the term Gino in reading accounts here of Toronto parties, I was kind of shocked at the use of the term. Seems a little insulting, and way behind the times. Do the actual Ginos/Ginas object to this designation, or is it cool with them?

hahahahahahahaha

well, to be honest i have no idea who exactly a gina and a gino is, but i have a vague idea

hehe, it is true Gino is a term used exclusively by Torontonians

Definition
Well a gino is a person of an Italian origin who dresses in fancy clothes.

My definition
Ginos dress to impress. Generally, ginos are rude and have little respect for anyone (this is not always true). The term is not only used to refer to people of Italian origin, for instance there are Russian ginos, Italian ginos, etc.

Not true, Montrealers sure know their Ginos themselves! The place is swarming with them, not that that's a bad thing I don't think there are any Ginos on TA in Vancouver though.

Hehe, I don't remember seeing that many ginos at Aria when Armin, Tiesto, and Ornadel played there back in 2003. There were some at Aria, but the Guvernment has way more! It's like weighing bricks and fluff.

Gino isnt just used in Toronto. Its used like everywhere in the states. I have heard that many time in Vancouver, its not city exclusive i dont think

the guv is a regular club with alcohol and all the mainstream BS that comes with it aka ginos.

Aria is an afterhours club, with no alcohol and seeks an underground fellowship... parties heats up at 4-5am whereas this time a gino is tucked in by his mom

Posted by Subey on Feb-19-2004 01:25:

we call em ginos in Ottawa too
