Thinking about starting a DJ agency...

Hi folks,

Recently I have been thinking about starting up a DJ agency. In part because I am currently pissed off with the one I am signed to at the moment and most of my gigs now come through my connections that I have made and are nothing to do with the agency yet they still charge for using me (I gotta stop writing such long sentences...)

Initially this agency would just provide another chance for DJs to put their contact information and give them a chance to promote themselves to their local clubs etc. The plan would be for you guys to be able to say here is my agency... you get the picture.

With regards to money, there would be no question of me taking any payments or anything as I would be using the site for the above reason myself and nothing else. At this stage it is purely intended to be used for promotional purposes.

I can not guarantee any bookings as a result of this site but on the other hand what have you got to loose?

In short it's basically a list of TA DJs (and a few others) and a little about them, picture and how to contact them etc.

I have to be firm on this though and say that initially I am only looking for DJs who play out at the moment for the main part of the agency but I will be looking to create an up and coming section so that the younger guys can get in on the action.

In other words if you are interested it doesn't matter what level you play at, as long as we feel that you are able to hold your own then I will have a place for you on the site.

What do we need from you?

Once you get accepted?

Just so you know... you don't have to play trance to get on this.
I'm looking for all sorts of DJs and am looking for a healthy representation on all styles of music.

In time I will also be looking for producers and eventually also looking at hosting a weekly online radio show where we feature a DJ from the agencies mix.

Later on I hope to be able to offer domain e-mails etc. to you guys too.

Just a few things I have planned for the near future.
_____________________________________________________________________

Ok guys, I have thrown down the gauntlet on this and would be interested in hearing what you have to say about it.

All contructive comments welcome, if on the other hand you just want to gloat or flame then take your bad self somewhere else.

All the best
Nem

I will send you the initial info whenever you want to start receiving it. But I will totally support you as far as I can...

Heh, I'll have to make one. How long would you like it ? I can't say I've been mixing very long, but hell, might as well give it a try

P.S. Nem you rock

Posted by Nemesis44 on Feb-18-2004 18:21:

Hmmm think I better re-phrase myself.

Ok folks,
Looks like I didn't make myself understood properly with the up and coming part.
What I basically want is for the Bedroom DJs to submit their stuff to me to be in the 'up and coming' section. If I think you got something then I will encourage you to flaunt it plain and simple.
There are so many good DJs who just don't get the exposure these days due to other DJs who are too scared to give the young guys a go. On the other hand there is also a lot of crap out there.

As some of you already know, I am happy to listen to mixes and tell you what I think about them and what you might want to do with it etc. All submissions will be met with a positive attitude. And if I don't accept you the first time, what you have to learn about this business is that it's persistance as much as anything.

Just get mixing folks and then PM me with a link.

Cheers
Nem

Excellent idea Nem, I think if this ends up being a long-term thing (which it sounds like it is) then it should be stickied.

great idea man.

Once i can dedicate more time to mixing regularly I will send ya a mix. Just this damn masters thesis eats up free time like no other.

hope all goes well.

Great idea Nem.
If only there were more around like you.

Just had one question though.
Are you looking for people only from England or anywhere?
Cause I'm on the other side of the globe....so I was just curious.

All over mate... I think 'International DJ Agency' has a nice ring to it don't you?

The plan is that I want to showcase as many TA DJs as possible. There are a lot of dedicated DJs here and I get the same feeling from a lot of them. I the DJ business is very hard to get a break in and very often most promoters will say "Have you played out before?", my plan is to give the DJ some backing even if it's minimal by saying that I'm with these guys.

As I said before, it's not about the money, but it is all about front.
Anyone from any nation is most welcome to submit a mix.

Cheers
Nem

PS
Getting some good mixes so for from people. Keep 'em coming and I will do my best to try and respond to you in good time.

Just so you know guys, I have added a requirement in the Demo mix seciton on the original post.

When you submit, just remember to list the tracks and the minutes that you start to mix on.

Cheers
Nem

PS
Getting some great quality at the moment so this is going to be tough.

Brighton is a little low on trance nights at the moment to be honest.

The best place in Brighton at the moment is the Honey Club.
Their line up is as follows:

Sat 21st Feb, Kai Tracid

Sat 28th Feb, Woody Van Eden

Sat 6th March, Tall Paul

Sat 13th March, JFK

Sat 20th March, This date isn't up on their site yet but I have first hand info that's it's Judge Jules. Although not %100 sure as I spoke to one of the guys from the HC and he didn't know what I was talking about.. but I bet you it's correct.

27th March, Stever Lee and John Askew

Sat 3rd April, Lucien Foort

Sat 10th April, Eddie Halliwell

Sat 17th April, Fergie

Sat 24th April, M.I.K.E.

There isn't really another night in Brighton that can boast acts like that. Worth checking out if you ask me.
I have played there a few times in the past and the set up is really nice not to mention the sound system is really good.

Send me a PM if you like. I will be going to some of those nights and get in as a VIP plus guests.

If you like your prog stuff then John Digweed has a monthly residency at the beach with Bedrock.
There is also a monthly hard trance night at the Volks Tavern for those who like it really hard.

Cheers
Nem

I'm using the link provided by nem, but i'm having trouble uploading the mix i want to, because i don't have java enabled. pardon my ignorance but does anyone know what this means and how i could enable this little java fella'.

Posted by benoitfan on Feb-19-2004 17:33:

Maybe you need to download Java Virtual Machine. Run a search "download Java VM Windows" or something, I think Microsoft has deleted that file from their servers but check Microsoft's site too if you are having trouble finding it. I'm in a hurry right now but if you have trouble, I'll help you out later in the day!
Good luck

Posted by chesco on Feb-19-2004 17:34:
