Is anyone else really pissed about the attitude soccer australia has taken to some players missing the friendly? if leeds can find compassion for 3+ weeks off to viduka to be with his sick father, despite facing bankruptcy and relegation, how can SA seriously punish hum for not playing a friendly? And scott chipperfield, who made all efforts to get to the game, justmissing a connecting flight, even though his wife gace birth on the weekend. They still enfore a club ban?
This is the same organisation who screwed up friendlies for how long?!? and refused to pay to even fly players home for the last oceania games, so we missed out on the confederation's cup, and the money that brings.
John oneil needs a good kick in the head, he's not playing in the backyard game that is world rugby now. the ARU pays the players the majority of their wages, not the clubs. now he's in the real world and well out of his depth.
given the behaviour of SA, i'm seriously doubting whether i want to support football in this country anymore.
sorry for the rant, back under my rock i go.
it is a very strange decision indeed, given that everyone knows the circumstances of what Viduka has bee through lately. What are they trying to prove? That they are getting tough & to not fuck with Soccer Australia?.. especially when Kewell gets away with another no show
Australian soccer = St Kilda football club
I came from Europe, Croatia where football as a religion, just all the whole Europe and South American! I stopped carring for football when I came to this country coz its fucken shocking.
Thats all I'm saying regarding that point.
I still follow AC Milan and I have since I was five. The golden era of Marko Van Basten is greatly missed
i would like to take some comfort in the football performance of my home country, but how could you do that when scotland lost 4-0 to wales. 4-0? did I mention we lost to wales?
funny story on football addiction, i was born in a hospital in glasgow, but the doctor missed my birth cos he snuck out to catch a european cup semi final on tv.
did you land on your head??

I think the problem was that Viduka never told Soccer Australia he wasnt coming. He was meant to be on a plane but never showed up. If he had an injury or whatever and told them beforehand then there would have been no fine. If Soccer Australia let Viduka get away with it this time then all the players would start doing it.
In the end we need all our best players to be playing together, even in friendlies. I turn on the TV to watch the game and there is no Kewell, Viduka or Emerton playing but somehow I wasnt surprised.
I'm getting sick of Harry Kewell picking up a 'knock' before every single game he plays.
I do think Viduka loves playing for his country though and I wont knock him because he usually plays every game.
Anyway hopefully this will put a stop to players taking off international games
I also think you have to take into consideration 2 other things. Sometimes in soccer to play for your country you gotta play for your coach. From the outside it looks like a lot of players in australia have no respect for farina, like many supporters as well.
Secondly, why organise a mindless friendly in the toughest time for european competitions. Doesnt make sense. Play in Europe and all these players would have showed up.
THIS IS A SIGN FARINA, fuck off already. Not only is your selection policy flawed and biased, you truly have no respect left from fans. Your coaching cost us a world cup qualification and whats worse is somehow your mediocrity was rewarded for another world cup campaign. GO figure

FIFA rules state sumwhere that you MUST play for your country, allowing that you don't have a broken lkeg or something, if you fail to do so then you will be penalized!
If Viduka doesn't wanna play for australia or this goes to any other player anywhere in the world.. you can easily change nationality... then why don't they do that...
This little rant goes to all the ppl as well that have I LOVE NY tshirts, or AMERICAN FLAGS on their cars or watever, its ok to love your country but ive overheard ppl saying that Aust. is shit, yet they line up @ Centrelinkg... if you love it that much (your SO CALLED BEST COUNTRY) why don't you pack ur Go-Lo shit that you bought from our taxes n get the hell out?
SOck-R australia is under FIFA meaning that they must do what they are told.. even though everyone that is interviewed on Aust. Soccer TV has told them that they need more input of fresh talent from Europe and South America.
Here''s something interesting, have you realised that all the players playing for teams here in australia, most of them ARE NOT AUSTRALIAN?
Meaning that most australians can't play soccer, sorry to say but im not been racist or anything.
Why do you think Asia went well in the world cup? Cause they had SOuth American coaches... they had an input of fresh talent that wasn't from Asia, meaning that they had skills n experience bestowed upon them.
If Aust. played Korea or Japan right now, even at a friendly level, who do you think is going to win?
EXACTLY!!!
LOL sorry for the rants but they just built up i guess...

the timing of this game in general wasn't bad, it was a week scheduled for international friendlies by fifa. soccer australia has complained in the past about young players of mixed descent being pressured by clubs to choose a european nation rather than aus. with SA having their heads up their bums like this, where would your loyalties lie? not with the country that would rather screw their players over to make examples of them.
At least the next friendly is a decent bit of organising, against south africa in london. a lot better than a midweek 12 hour flight to joburg.
as for australian players not being australians, something like 1/3 of the people in this coutnry weren't born here, and how many more are 1st generation australians? doesn't mean they are any less australian than anyone else.
Fifa doesn't insist that players are banned from playing for the club if they don't play for their country, they simple enforce the law if the national body requests it.
on the coaching side, farina doesn't have the talent there, but australia still screwed up with venables.
You will find with Australias soccer team now, 99.9% of the players were born here. That wasnt the case 30 years ago, but as generations have passed, most of us are now 3rd generations. Sure I might be greek, have a greek name, greek culture etc etc etc. When you ask me what nationality i am, I am Australia, so thats not an issue.
The scheduling of the game wasnt bad, but the placement of the game was horrendous. South America when our whole squad is primarily based in EUROPE. RIdiculous is the only word to describe it.
they should have asked Paulie to sub

I saw on Sky news that Scotland were looking at bringing in some foreign players to their national team.. whatever that means? .. do they rbing them in & naturalise them or something? .... & after the thumping they received at the hands of Wales, they need to do something. maybe McViduka??
anyway, point of the whole Venezuala thing is, the location they forced them to PLay at was ridiculous!!! soccer Australia have won very few friends.
First and foremost have the friendlies in Europe, and all would be well.
Though I understand, trying to manage and making a squad when the players you would like to play are unavailable. I'm very happy in Harry Kewell's case for him its Club before country.
I dont give a shit if he plays for Australia or not.
Thats fucked if SA wants FIFA to suspend players for not turning up to internationals! I'd never play for Australia again if they tried suspending me from playing with my club. SA had the nerve to poke in the business of Kewell's transfer from Leeds to the Redmen.
And when we get to the final 2 legs to qualify for the World Cup finals, never count your chickens before they've been hatched even if we win the first leg 1 nil or 9 nil. I remember all the idiots suddenly talking about football, thought the job was already done at the MCG against Uruguay. And hence what Paulie said fuck Farina! cause he thought he could get away with the Green and Gold sitting back at Montevideo.
The biggest mistake this country ever made was not taking Football seriously from the beginning till present. We put all the time in other sports, and all it got was a bunch of plastic trophies and plastic medals.
If the is country wants to qualify for the world cup in 2004 and in the future then it must have the passion and commitment, singing for 90 minutes, not just turning up and watching and ffs sake actually bringing at least 5000 or more real devoted fans to South America. Why werent there any Australians at the stadium in Montevideo back Nov 01? Just shows how loyal we Aussies are. Forget about all the other sports which are inferior, and spend the time and energy the sport that really matters football.
Just my 2 cents.
guys you realise we are going to have to play in South America to qualify for the next world cup right?
So excuse Frank Farina for having the stupidity to organise a game in South America against a team we might actually be playing to qualify! Considering how well we did playing in Uruguay we obviously dont need to bother about learning how to play in South America against South Americans?

90% of the friendlies are in Europe to be honest and even then there are a lot of players who pull out with minor injuries
i think the biggest mistake SA made in the past, and continues to make, is to be lobbying for oceania to have a full spot at the world cup. I think we should be pushing for an extra spot for a merged oceania/asian qualifying group.
asia has a lot of pretty low standard teams, just like oceania. they also have quite a few good teams that australia would benefit from playing against. merging the groups would mean everyone gets more games at their own standards, rather than the bottomr teams getting flogged, and the top teams, especially in oceania, only getting that home and away playoff against good quality.
Asia would benefit from that extra half spot, and oceania gets more decent football, less of a qualifying lottery.
$210 to rego for soccer this year :/
is there any problem playing asian countries, or the better teams in the J-league, rather than some obscure nation on the other side of the world?

quite a few australian resident uruguayans were at the mcg. I know at least one who got to hang out with the team before the game. same for the iranian game 4 years earlier. One of the benefits of playing against the soccerroos, no matter what country you represent, there's a good chance you'll already have a supporters group living here.
can't say i heard of many aussies living in uruguay.
as for playing asian teams, outside declared qualifying games (and thus spare weeks in domestic football calendars) it's still a long way from the football hubs in europe when your first team isn't based in australia.
remember only a few years ago the NSL wouldn't admit perth, so one perth team played in the s-league in singapore instead.
i have no problem with viduka or kewell or whoever not playing for australia. BUT if we make the world cup with a team that doesnt include them, they will expect to be in the world cup team , when they should be told to go fuck themselves for not playing the qualifiers etc:
