Discrimination
hi there. as a NYC clubber, i frequently club on the weekends. im of asian descent. 18 years of age. and a big trance supporter / follower / addict may i add*
But apparantly, i am sometimes discriminated against. and so are other asian clubbers. " ASIAN INVASION " as some people call it.
- " A MASS OF YELLOW SKIN PEOPLE SPRAWLED ACROSS THE DANCEFLOOR "
- " DAMN CHINESE PEOPLE TAKING OVER THE DANCE FLOOR "
i find this very disturbing. i mean, its funny to hear and all. i can take it as a joke. But when people get serious about it, and they have this look on their face..
.. then its a different story. There are all walks of life in this world. And we all come out on the weekends just to have fun. Is this neccesary? Seriously? Is it a crime that Asian people like trance? Is it a crime for asian people to go to Avalon on a Friday Night just to come out and hear Judge Jules Set? example* Is it that serious really? We're all the same people. Just Different Cultures and Background. thats all. But we all do come out just to have fun and all. So there are FOBs in NYC. But they're still the same people. They Still enjoy Marco V, PVD, Ferry, AVB, Judge Jules. It's the music that brings us all together. Do you people still follow the P.L.U.R principle? Because i certainly do.
Peace.Love.Unity.Respect. NoHomo and all. But i do believe we can party with Peace and without unfair act to asians. Such as spilling water on them, purposely dancing and kicking their shins. We can party with love instead of hatred. We can party with Unity and without Discrimination for one another. We can party with respect for each other.
lol i wrote alot here. But im just trying to point out the discrimation we go through sometimes. i just wish the discrimination would end.

is it really that bad? (maybe i have no clue 'cause im not asian...) the asian peeps are always representing in full force and have been a big part of the edm scene in ny as far back as i can remember(and were def. so at twilo and exit), so the people who make the comments you describe are clueless on multiple levels.
yeah weerd neon...i def read a lot about this before...esp on some other boards and stuff...there are sure a lot of a--holes in this world
i mean yeah there are those azns that go to parties and start trouble n shit but mostly ppll go to enjoy the music and the vibe....personally most ppl i meet, whether azns and non-azns have been madd koo and keeping in line wid the PLUR principle. Which is how it should be...
I don't see color.....and it would piss me off if I seen this type of attitude.
BTW bubble.....how you doin babe? You guys tryin to head up to Guv for Ferry and Diggers on the 13th???!!!

its sad that this happens, but you know, its like this with every nationality so cheer up neo!! Just make sure ur not the one causin beef or sprawled out in the middle of the dance floor cuz ur faced etc.

The asians I have seen in clubs are anything but P.L.U.R. towards me or others who arn't asian. Perhaps if they were more friendly to others in the club that are not asian, and a little less separatist, things would be better? I mean whenever they are on the dancefloor, a circle forms of only asians, and no one else is allowed sort of thing. This is true not all but alot of the time.
OK flame me if you want, I can handle it...I'm just saying what I've observed though.
OF THE BOAT is alot differnt then a regular clubber..
anyone (it doesnt matter what race you are) who just goes out to start shit and get fucked up is considered a big pain in the ass.
Fob is a term that was mainly used at a club called Exit . There were Mainly a high amount of hostile very druged up non english speaking asain mafia who came with escorts who were very rude to yours truly on a few occations and who I got in a fight with at at a few parties.
Like a group of 15 of these dicks started shoving me for no reasone lol. I defended myslef and beat up one.... but like 15 others came at me so I walked.
^^^^ happened to about 10 white guys that night. Finally the exit security kicked them all out but this situation happened alot there.
My point. I dont believe in generalization of any race. Its wrong.
But I understand why some people might atach the term to asain.
.... because of what a large specific group of them did at exit a year or so ago

They only griped I had is when sometimes at Glow 50% of the asian ppl there who use to cause fights because either A:There drunk B:They where screwed on drugs. Which pissed me off because they where not there for the music. Other than that I know some koo asians

<--- asian. i sometimes laugh at my fellow counterparts too if only because of the large crews and such that stand around the perimeter of whatever club i'm at (arc, roxy, avalon, etc). i don't say anything if i see a pack of 20 people (regardless of what they are) making it difficult to walk thru. so fr0st, everyone makes those circles hah. janieliza, what's PLUR? and pyro... u're right the only fights i've seen (avalon for thanksgiving eve) involved asians, and two fights occurred within 45 minutes of each other that night. yeah they give a black mark to the rest of us who are there to genuinely have a good time instead of standing around looking/acting tough at the club. i hope to see u all at the roxy. u'll see me just rocking out and having a good time with the rest of my friends and hopefully not creating problems for anyone

Sadly enough I saw this coming a long long time ago and you are correct in making that separatist statement.. Because I do not want to perpetuate this image, I for one make a genuine effort to meet as many non-asian clubbers as possible when a I go out.. maybe we can meet up at PVD so I can show you the Asian love you have been missing in your life. I'll let you in on my circle anytime.

Sorry to hear what happened to you at Exit.. The scene over there was UGLY and I avoided that place like the plague.. The wanna-be Asian tough guys over there made me sick to my stomach.. and the people that went there were definitely NOT there for the right causes. As BubbleRave stated, its all about the music and the vibe.
