Exclamation R we gifted? (on the power to understand TRANCE)

I've seen many posts lately regarding the lack of capability to understand trance by many. From that Bruce Wayne individual that started to analyze trance as this is an animal, till the few friends apri_peel has that love trance, and to my romanian friends which listen to all kind of crap (this-U must agree-is the situation worldwide), I've been wondering Y only so few understand this music? Y only so few R capable of FEELING IT.
So I'm beginnin' to realy believe this. I'm believin' that we indeed R gifted, so we can understand and feel trance. I wish to thank nature, to thank God that he has given me this ability... the power to fully comprehend it's magic.

So I'm askin' U... do U think we R gifted?

Posted by apri_peel on Aug-09-2001 08:51:

indeed we are gifted and special in our special way
from where i see it, since no two ppl are alike in any way possible, and since we all have different tastes and opinions, its just natures thing you know. its the same concept with music as it is with fav colors and fav food for example. i mean if you like green, and i like yellow, than thats just the way things are, no one or nothing cant really change it. unfortunately, in todays society, most ppl go by whats in and whats not really in. since pop/hip-hop/rock are very popular, b/c some moron said it was the coolest music around, everyone is 'liking' it, its mostly about fitting in nowadays. trance doesnt exactly get the popular vote, so, consequently, its not getting much attention, except from the ppl who know what they like and know what they want to hear.
want proof? ive got a friend, a really good friend, shes awesome! but she cares a lot about what others think/say/do. all throughout high school she hang out with popular kids at school and with us after school. she dresses very preppy-like and shes into hiphop/r&b stuff, all b/c she wanned to fit in back in high school, and now, shes left with those dumb habbits of trying to be like everybody else, and i blame our society for that!
sorry for gettin carried away like that, didnt mean to make this a long post

apri_peel:
well, what Ur friend has done is not quite new... but still, U R right that it's the society to blame.
U got a point with the fact it's about nature. but in fact that's what I'm reffering too. Y did nature left so many pop/rock/hip-hop fans and so few trance lovers? (I'm only ref. at the REAL ones, not those Vengaboys idolizers!) It's not like U can change some1... though I've tranceformed 1 or 2 friends of mine into trance phnatix.
But this is what I'm tryin' 2 settle here: b/c there R so few trance lovers (comparing to fans of the other major genres), does this mean we R different big-time?
Because I know trance made me better. I just feel it... after "the discovery", I was a different individual...
So? Special or not?

If we're gifted for being capable of FEELING trance, then what do u consider the people who are capable of PRODUCING it? I think they're the gifted ones, and we're just the only people who take time to understand it.

You've said it great there!
Yeap, well, don't U think thay started with listening to trance?
Quite talented was the one that started this... but I still can't explain myself where do they have these powers. BT, Tiesto, I'm just listening and I'm astonished by what their mind created... though I think trance comes from the soul.
But WE DO TAKE TIME TO UNDERSTAND IT! Some don't. And because we choose this way, there is something with us... 4 SURE!

You could think you are gifted to be able to feel trance...i'm gonna try to explain what I think, I have no clue if it'll make sense, cause its kinda hard to explain....but here it goes....

but you cannot be gifted with feeling something I believe...
you feel trance because its just who u r deep down, some people hear it as sounds, we hear it as something beautiful, it gives us feelings that cannot be described. We are definitely a minority compared to all other music listeners out there. Society just has way too many problems, but thats not what im gonna discuss. To feel trance, you must be open-minded and imaginative I think.

Someone told me this argument once, she asked me what kind of music I like, and at that time my reply was Electronica, so after seeing a look of digust on her face, she actually gave me a pretty interesting theory to think about that she read somewhere.......That everybody has an inner beat u can say, people have different beats and such that is why different music appeals to them so that is why you respond to a certain kind of music, it really goes with what you feel inside, and that is when u enter trance!

anyways, i hope some of that made sense, if it didn't im sorry!!

Shame / Disagreement

GUYS, try to understand that it's obviously trance is what we R!
But the point is Y we R like this?

Posted by Renegade on Aug-10-2001 09:51:

You're forgetting that just because we may enjoy trance and garner some hidden meaning from it, it doesn't mean that there's anything inherently brilliant about trance, it's just that we have a personal preference towards it. Some people probably get the same feelings from listening to classical music or rock 'n' roll or whatever - which just goes to underline the fact that all tastes are subjective. Each to their own.

But tastes develop and mature according to what we experience in life. For instance, we only find trance so meaningful now because the sum total of everything that we've experienced has led us to feel this way: if you'd been played trance when you were ten, and hadn't had the right experiences to form an appreciation for trance, you go "what the hell is this shit?". People, because they've each had infinitely different experiences from everyone else, are going to differ widely in tastes. Next time you wonder how it is that some people don't like trance, just ask yourself why you don't like house music, or rock 'n' roll, or rap (or any other form of music you don't share others passion for), and you may be able to understand.

Are we gifted then? No, not really. We just happen to have had the right experiences to have made trance appeal to us. Liking trance is no more a gift than liking icecream or liking any given sporting team: just because it has meaning to us and we are emotionally attached to it, it doesn't mean that there is any objective reason why other people should necessarily feel the same way. Similarly, it doesn't mean that there is any inherent brilliance in trance itself, we just choose to see it that way.

Hope I've answered your question hypronix?

So true, Renegade!!

And here in Holland, almost all the teenagers/twentiers love trance....so I have never felt special about it

Alright, im going to back up hypronix on this one

You dont here thousands of people putting up RockAddict.com, saying they get so emotional to the point of crying, and an undescribable feeling when Metallica plays Sandman do you? NO! (at least here in the states i dont, i just see people trying to act ''cool'' when nelly or lil bowow comes on)...my point: people who listen to pop/hip hop/ r'n'b/rap dont get into it the same way as we do....sure, people cry when they 'see' nSync, but they don't cry when they 'hear' a song.....BLEH i dont know i cant explain this in words lol!! but I understand the point hypronix is trying to make

Posted by Slylee on Aug-10-2001 20:18:

Smoking ..umm..something

i agree with hypronix and also renegade a little too. i know that sometimes when i've been at a club and i was rolling, a song would come on and for some reason, i would just like "know" how the dj was feeling or what mood he/she was in at the moment he/she was making that song...u know what i mean? like they don't need words to express themselves when making a song. and they "know" the people will feel it when they hear it. maybe it was the drugs, but then again, i've felt this way sober too. also, my bf and i have talked about marriage before (no we're not getting hitched any time soon) but we are very serious (we live together) and we have joked about what song we will have at our wedding, and no doubt it will be a trance song with no words. ppl might find that weird, but we know what the songs means for us. we have our own words to the song, but only in our mind. trance leaves so many doors open for us to explore. that's what trance is all about...feelings. i think people who like trance ARE gifted because we are able to pick up on those feelings without having words to help us. take a rapper like Jay-Z for instance. he just goes on and on about hoes and how he likes to fuck and be a player and whatnot....OF COURSE his fans are gonna "feel" him cuz he is just SAYING whatever is on his mind....when ur a trance/breaks/jungle dj, u don't need words, and the people still feel the music and know what u meant by producing that song make sense?? i hope

ok, you can love trance, because you just like the tunes. Let's take Sensation 2001: amazing atmosphere (I wasn't there, but I saw some videos of it), the whole stadion fulled up with party-people. They go there because they like it, but I'm sure not even the half of them feels trance the way hypronix means.
Let's take Sasha - Xpander. Sometimes, I listen to it, fully dark in my room, sitting in a corner with headphones, dreaming away. And even when this track is over, it's like I'm stoned as hell, making a long trip through emotions...And I think it's that what hypronix means. Not all the people will have the beatiful and magic feeling when listening to it, like I just described. Maybe it's wrong to describe it as a gift. But I think it sais something about the fact you are more then just a superficial human being. And it has to be said, a lot of people in this world are superficial. Just business, working, money, but not even a single moment you do nothing, and just listening to some music, that touches your emotions. And for some of us here, it's trance. For other people e.g. who likes rock, also there, there will be people who feels the same like we do. And you have to respect that.
Ok you have those who just like trance, no more...well, maybe, there will be a moment, they discover something more in it...
And about the wannabes, just don't give a sh*t

exactly gloomy....those ppl that listen to hip hop and just listen to what's "cool" are a dime a dozen in my eyes...i mean a lot of ppl like trance...but there is a small group of us that are like what hypronix is talking about. those are the people who are just really deep people with a lot of emotions and they truly understand the music.

Posted by ftnb on Aug-10-2001 23:57:

loving trance gives you a feeling of unity even though you might be one of the only trance lovers in your country because you know that your not the only one who's knee's buckle when an awesome tune hits the dance floor and that around the world every other TRUE trance freak is hearing and enjoying the same music as you... when i say true i mean people who go to clubs/raves for the music, who shower with it, go to sleep with it, wake up with it, do there hw to it, etc.. you know who you are.

Smiley DJ

First I'll thank for the backup. (and I'm glad to see some contadictions here!)

I see some think there's nothing to us...just regular music fans.
Well, Renegade, it might come down to experience. (hey, what music were U listenin' at 10? I was on Michael J...yeah, I know) But U R not the only one to have life experience. So?
To Miss Proxy, I'd just say that not all trance fans TRIP on it...if U know what I'm meanin'. I like techno and house...just that I'm not that dedicated to them. Some like it b/c how it sounds. But I agree with Gloomy: sometimes the best way to listen to trance is to be alone. No external influences, nothin'...At a party/concert...every1 is enjoyin' the sound...but they R not all feelin' the tune. This happens to me 2 sometimes, I know that I like I song but I don't feel so special when listenin' in public..b/c I don't get all the energy comin'...(if U R feelin' I'm losin' it either U R not a dedicated trance fan or I have, indeed, lost it...which I don't think though!)
And Slylee pointed it out perfectly with that small group of ppl...but then this is the fact.
And if gifted is too much (although I was usin' it in a metaphorical way), how would U call us? Cause for sure WE R not normal...(I'm sayin' it in the good sense of the word..duh!)

Posted by TrAnCe CoNtRoL on Aug-11-2001 00:22:

i dont know if its a gift to understand trance. if it was a gift it would be there from day 1. i myself didnt like trance or techno when i first heard it. it took me a while and then i found a good song, started downloading more and more, and found better and better ones. i guess i was taught to like it. if you can learn to like something, then i dont think its a gift. some of you may feel you have a gift of understanding it better than i do, well then i guess im not special.

gifted? wtf, that's blown out of proportions, we all like it cuzz we just do and we are not 'gifted' I got with Zheka

Posted by plastikE on Aug-11-2001 05:44:

alright here's just a little comparison i thought of (forgive me if i make no sense out of this )::

let's take art for example......consider the TRULY talented painters of history (Picasso, Vinci, etc)....they understood paint in such a way that some people don't even understand what their intensions were, or how deep their understanding/love went for art. same thing goes with the dj's (with CERTAIN exceptions of course *cough* darude *cough* lol)...take PvD for example, he probably understands trance in a way that no one else will, and has a deep 'addiction' for it that some of us TA's cant comprehend. for us truly addicted TA's, we've experienced some of these 'feelings' that PvD may have gone through, and these feelings were sooo great that we had to have more, and more, and a lot of people don't understand why the hell we yern for more of these feelings. With art (you know those people who stare at paintings for HOURS on end, just appreciating it right?) its almost the same thing.....people see a certain 'thing' that others don't....and i WOULD call that a gift damnit....and I also probably made NO sense at all....but it was worth a shot right?

Posted by hypronix on Aug-11-2001 06:58:

Guys, U can take me as bein' totaly "out of here", but I just believe (sorry, I am convinced) that there's more to trance then just the tune. (beat and strynths - no ofense Eugene!)
