Steve Porter Review
WOW!!! OMG!!!
so after tfst on saturday i thought i should see steve porter since i haven't seen him before and it was 6 bucks.. i heard the opening dj. he was good.. astro and glide was good too, BTW. i talked to one of the astro or glides wife!... but anyhow porter comes, i forget what time. and he blew me away. HOLY COW this guys was incredible. i mean he just wouldnt stop.. i wanted to leave but it was tooo goood to leave!!!so after tonight i think hes claimed a spot in my favorite djs list!
so was anyone there last night??
he dropped this sick ass track @ 5. im still dying from that.
who ever didnt make it. you
if any one can get a tracklist id appreciate it!!!
ahhhh i thought i'd be first haha! 5 bucks at arc? heck yeah! porter played from i guess 4 til about 6.15 at arc. i don't know who played before him (from 3-4) but it was utter shite for me until steve came on. the guy(s?) that played until 3 were really good. iteddyi, you are SOOOOO right about that track at 5 am. i don't know what it was but OMFG i die when he dropped it. that was just monstrous. porter was just awesome.
Tracklist PLease
I must agree guys this had to be one of the best dj sets ive ever heard. Only track I could spot was Tomcraft lonelyness. He is deffinately pushing a new sound. Alot of the music he was playing had wierd squeeks and bleeps was fucking intense and his programming was amazing he just kept building and building. It was one of those nights the music is sooo good you dont want it too end. Hisham and astro and glyde sucked they could program for shit nor was the mixing that great. But they still have decent enough productions. If anyone ever gets to see steve porter i sugest they do soo they might be pleasantly surprized.
Im from Boston and have been lucky to see Porter at Rise several times as well as his residency this past year at sq1 at Axis/ID.I'm pretty sure some of the tracks he played at arc are probably on his 2004 promo cd.
Heres the tl for that cd:
1. HDF & Bons "Sucka" (Instrumental)
2. Lance De Sardi "Don't..... cause I won't"
3. L.H.A.S Inc. "Reasons" undercover agency rmx
4. Inland Knights "Sometimes"
5. Unknown "Got to be Love"
6. Matthew Dekay Band "Higher Thoughts" sporter remix
7. Agent 001 "Jabba Jaw"
8. Unknown "It's my........"
9. Steve Porter "Beat'n Potatoes"
10. Maurice & Noble "Hoochie Koochie"
11. Deetron "Miss Suave"
12. Steve Porter "Lady Elaine"
13. Ogi G Cash feat. Sofine "Colours" Mimi Gonzales funky extension rmx
14. Steve Porter "Neptune"
15. Chris Reavey "Night Train"
He was really good when he was with Eli Wilkie as part of "Agent 001" last summer. They got a couple tracks out on major releases like Hernan Cattaneo's Rennaisance cd as well as Lee Burridge's Global Underground 24:7 cd.Porter is only 24 and is definitely an up and comer in the dj world
heh how about the rod stewart track he played?

Nah, that was definitely Steve playing that Rod Stewart, but it wasn't like it cleared the dance floor or anything like that. It was a silly, fun song and I think it was pretty decent.
The track I was much more into, and definitely my choice for the song of the night (if there is such a thing) was that absolutely crazy progressive remix of "The Prodigy - Firestarter" that he played maybe two songs later. Holy crap! To say that song destroyed the floor would be a huge understandment. That was definitely noice.
Also of note was the new Agent 001 remix of that James Taylor song that Steve played around 5:30 I think. I actually got to talk with Steve Porter and Eli Wilkie (the other half of Agent 001) as they were leaving and they said that they had just made that track for the upcoming WMC.
Overall I thought Steve Porter played a fantastic set full of diverse and very ear-catching progressive music. Astro and Glyde were rock solid, albeit far more direct and singe-minded in their approach. I didn't recognize a single track they played the whole evening until about 7 AM when Glyde dropped "Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness" which, of course, got a great reaction from the exhausted crowd. When I left at 7:30 they were still banging away, so to be honest I have no idea when they stopped. I feel a little bad for Hisham, who I believe only played from 12-1. He played a simple set of deep house with a nice bounce to it, but unfortunately with only an hour to work with, and a crowd of 40 at most while he was on, he couldn't really achieve much.
Excellent times were had by all I must say. It's such a shame that a great club like Arc is going to be gone soon, but hopefully we'll find plenty of other places to hear great music like we heard last night.
Sad Attempts at Trainspotting:
Hisham:
Nothing (solid deep house)
Astro & Glyde:
1. Really bassy track with grungy electric guitar
(not Seven Nation Army or Smells Like Freeland though)
2. Song with saxophone solo
3. Like 20 songs where bass suddenly drops out and the somes crazy zip/whizzing noise rips by followed by return of bass
4. Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness
Steve Porter:
1. Tomcraft - Loneliness (Unknown Remix)
2. James Taylor - Unknown (Agent 001 Remix)
3. Rod Stewart - If You Think I'm Sexy (Unknown Remix)
4. Steve Porter - Vodka Cranberries
5. The Prodigy - Firestarter (Unknown Remix)
6. Like 10 tracks with really cool delay-bell noises ala "Definite Form" but not.
7. Absolutely gorgeous song played around 5 AM (first truly beautiful song of the night. Imagine dancing to almost nothing but relentess banging progressive for the past five hours and then hearing this one diamond in the rough. I can't even descibe it, but it brought a tear to me eye *sniff*.
VODKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
