Exclamation Important Question About Pioneer Mixers !!!!!!!!

Hey Guys,
It's my birthday and I thought a great present would be to buy a new mixer...so I was thinking...DJM-500, or DJM-600 by Pioneer?

DJM - 500 : has less things than DJM-600 does, but whenever I look at the live videos...(Mayday, Trance Energy, Love Parade) they all use it !!!

DJM - 600 : (matches the color of my EQuipment) has a sampler build in, and couple more FX that DJM-500 doesn't have. BUTTT, I have never been on an event where they have used it.

I really need to pick one, if not Pioneer, than what???

Hehe, they're both great mixers... I've used 'em both.

Changed to the DJM-600 at the club... it's just like the 500, but with more effects and functions. You can also adjust the type of crossfade you want (three types).

I'll tell you that I've changed the mixer a couple of times during live sets with Tiesto, Klubbheads, Lars Holte (In Trance We Trust), John Storm (same again), Misja, Angy Dee, Louis Molinari, etc etc etc... but there's never been any mixer I've played harder on than Pioneers DJM mixers.
They've been peaked to the max at all the events, and the DJ's have said that the mixers we used are surprisingly good, considering they've played in all those superclubs which should be able to afford better equipment in their DJ booths. I trust them with that, since they've seen more mixers than the average person behind decks...

Vestax also has excellent mixers tho, but even with both these brands, you're aiming for the more expensive mixers on the market. It's nice to have money...

i have a 500 and have used a 600 at clubs before - the effects section on these mixers are only really useful if you are playing house. of course theres the good ol' flanger that you can hear on a lot of live mixes, but you really dont use the others much.

the 500 is perfect for what you really want to do - the only extra on the 600 that i liked was the filter or transform(i think?) which is similar to the flanger but blippy instead and the sound disappears... well i guess you have to hear it for yourself to understand, but again its really only useful for house music. it also has the option to choose the crossfader's curve, but who really cares?

the 500 in general is all you could possibly wish for. a nice rigid feel, same length and height as 1200's, excellent monitoring controls (including db meters on each chan) and of course the all important option of turning the crossfader off. this feature is great for smoother mixes or 3 turntables (which is so much fun by the way you guys should try it - borrow one of your mate's 1200s and have a go).

the 600 is overkill and i doubt you'll really find the extra features very useful. theyre pretty cool, but arent worth the extra mula.

by the way a couple months after i bought my 500, the 600 was released (pricks) and a lot of people (and some clubs) sold their 500's to upgrade. have a look - there may still be people doing this, you could get a second hander for a good price.

Posted by patticus on Aug-12-2001 13:28:

the 600s are going for like 2400$ cdn right?
how much was your 500 special k

Posted by Special_K on Aug-12-2001 22:55:

I got a used Pioneer DJM-500 for about $1000. I got a pretty good deal because i was buying my entire set at the same store and I got some favours pulled with the owners of the srore.

Man I dont know why this is even a topic. If your going to go all out and have the money for the 600 get the 600. Its got tons of impropvments from the 500 and you can do sampling with the 600.

Posted by Max2LC on Aug-12-2001 23:37:

Arrow True..

Ye Man,
I think your right !!! that's what ppl tell me...
thanx i guess I'll go to the store tommorow and check both out

Posted by Cosmo K on Aug-14-2001 14:36:

The only reason the 600 actually costs more is not because of the extra effects and crossfader functions, but the *sampler*. Having a sampler in itself costs money, so it might be useful to get the 600 if you're gonna make some really weird remix of a track...

...however, if you're in need of a studio sampler, you're gonna have to have more cash than what you're getting for ya Birthday. (Unless, of course, you just inherited some)

See, it's the same brand, but ya don't know which mixer... I actually preferred the 500 as well. More than enough goodness in a black box!
