Religious debate on Jews/Passion of the Christ

This doesnt really apply to seculars so u can either flame on, or ignore this discussion, but the new Mel Gibson movie is stirring up a huge amount of controversy because many say it is anti-semetic.

many hate groups, white sepremesists a large majority have huge hate for jews. many normal people have mixed feelings about them. but it is all stemming from the belief that Jews killed Jesus. if you "dont" think about it. yes jews did kill jesus. such a horrible crime against the almighty god. but what many christians and other people alike dont understand is that, it was God's will that Jesus be crucified. The Jews actually did God's will by having jesus crucified. if jesus hadnt died in such a way, then we would not be able to be saved, have everlasting life, or ever be accepted into heaven, because of our sinful nature and unrightiousness. we would be doomed forever, because it is only by rightiousness that we are accepted into heaven, not through good works, or just because your a good guy.

jesus died for us, so that we could be saved from this doom, and if one accepts him, becomes christian, and follows the teachings of Jesus, giving up old life, starting anew, then we are righteous before god. none of this could happen if jesus hadnt died on the cross.

maybe we should thank the jews. because all they did was unconsioussly follow God's will to save us from everlasting death.

this movie will cause anti-semitism in people like action moves cause violence in people

you're either violent or anti semitic to begin with or you're not at all. these movies dont create it, they only feed those who already are.

honestly i could give a crap about the contraversy behind this movie. and im sorry i dont have much to add specifically to your debate about jesus being killed by jews as im not religious at all. imo if you cant forgive some people for something they did 2000 years ago then you're a stubborn person

Personally I beleive the jews are gods people, and I love them even though a I'm a very religous catholic.

Do you beleive in the tooth fairy...santa clause...elves, magical wizards, dragons, ghosts, the sandman....if not.. what makes you beleive such a similar character??

I know.. i know.. you are going to give me some bullshit excuse or explanation about why or how he came or didnt come...

Those two ideas don't really fit together. The reason people don't believe in the tooth fairy, santa clause, elves, etc is because there is a plausible explaination of why we get presenst on christmas, why money appears under the pillow when we lose a tooth, etc.

as far as the universe is concerned, we have absolutely no idea how or why we exist, and for most people "there is no reason" just isnt enough.

I don't believe in a god, but that doesn't necessarily mean i'm going to rule out the POSSIBILITY based on the fact that "he hasnt shown himself."

I'd say that's a bit of an understatement.

They're not the same people - the people who did that died a little less than 2000 years ago. They just happen to have the same ethinicity and/or religion that those people did. That's not being stubborn, it's being downright idiotic.

I find it humorous that we are all sitting among various religions for centuries, Mel Gibson makes one movie, and all of a sudden there is a debate on "who was Jesus" on every channel on the T.V..

I think there were many people in history that were wiser than others that were mistakenly given the title of the son of God, or God's messenger (aka Jesus, Krishna, Buddha among others). By speaking of peace and being wiser than their years, they were given a "Godly" appearance since most were not highly educated during their times.

I think Jesus was a real person. Was he the son of God? No. Did he come back to life? No. Do I believe in God? I believe there is a higher being.

This is the extreemely briefed version of my belief system. Perhaps I will get more into it when I am more awake and less stressed.

you should start ur post with i think..u make it sound that u know everything..i respect ur opinion and u r by all means entitled to it..but plz dont force it on us like u r all knowing..respect our opinions too...back to topic..i dont c what the fuss is about..jews killed jesus..its not something newly discovered nd nothing to be mad at the jews for..,i think its just a publicity stunt..i will be firt in line to the movie

to people like cyprussking, acknowledging god would reveal to you, that your living your life in the wrong way, not according to jesus/god. so why acknowledge him?? that would just make you seem bad/evil, which you dont believe. so, its easier for you just to not acknowledge god, and to avoid the subject altogether.

Uh huh... Let me ask you something reaaaaal quick. If he doesn't believe in God... and he doesn't believe that his soul continue's on... Do you honestly think you just affected him by typing out a whole paragraph on how his soul is going to rot because he refuses to acknowledge God?

who said ur sins are forgiven after seven hail mary's? for a sin to be forgiven..u need to confess ur sin,pray alot,hope for forgivness,try to replace it by doing good deeds and not repeat it; then it might be forgiven..

i am not a judge of character but i always see ur posts filled with anger and rage..always engaged in flame wars n stuff...doesnt fit the description of the happiest person..also u can live a life of happiness with religion..i am truly am a happy person..i feel good when i do a good deed,feel good when i go to church and other religious events that help me feel good in this rather tough world..

You guys are in serious need of some morals, culture and heritage what do you guys have no parents or famile obviously you people grew up in a divorced household of no morals or something.

There is a higher being that guides us through life. There is no form, nor temple/church that you must go to in order to "prove" your belief. It is in everything and is everywhere. Through your decisions in life you have Karma. Life is to educate yourself and to be filled with joy. Once this life has ended I will move on to another to be educated further until my soul has completed it's course, and finds ultimate peace.

I know I am protected and I feel calm with my beliefs.

But I also give props to any other person's religious preference, or non preference. I don't think it's fair to try and force your particular belief upon others. If someone doesn't agree with what I think, fine, that's great.

u hit the nail on the spot..i find that most atheists here try so nuch to rip whatever religion u believe in and always with 0% success..respect our belifs..when u r insulting my beliefs, isnt it that the same as insulting me??

But you still might be forgiven? You should live by the choices you made. You made them at the time for a reason, didn't you? If you made the incorrect choice, you need to live with it. None of this "forgiveness" nonsense.
