Worm Popper

nice track, i like the guitar, maybe more delay or somehting make it more dreamy.. when everything comes togethers its really nice.. maybe u should make kick louder, also tone down the clap and add more open hats.

good stuff

Posted by seantyas on Feb-24-2004 14:53:

thanks rob, though im content with the amount of OHHs... i may delay out the guit a bit more i guess

Posted by Sean Walsh on Feb-24-2004 19:16:

As rob mentioned, kick and clap need some work. Kick should really stick out a whole lot more than it does, and the clap is too loud. Breakdown is pretty neat sounding, though a little thin IMO. I'm not really a fan of the guitar, but I guess that's a matter of personal taste.

Pretty good, but will be WAY better when kick and clap are improved.

Posted by seantyas on Feb-24-2004 19:44:

workin on it as you read this.. and about the thinness, i disagree.. played it in the car against some other stuff, sounded fine... dont forget, just cuz im not ubusing the jp8000 doesnt mean i have a thin lead... its about how it fits..

Posted by seantyas on Feb-24-2004 20:14:

http://www.seantyasmusic.com/st-som...tter224clip.mp3 same file bname, i simply replaced it..

Posted by Sean Walsh on Feb-24-2004 23:42:

I was more referring to the first part of the breakdown before the electric guitar kicks in, perhaps "empty" would have been a better choice. The sound of the lead itself is fine.

Posted by seantyas on Feb-24-2004 23:48:

ahhh now i totally agree with you... probably a few things i could toss there to fill the void... wow listening again you're definitely right.. thanks for pointing that out!! peace

Posted by alanzo on Feb-25-2004 01:38:

me likes sounds a lot like vanguard.. is that what you used? and maybe ReFX Slayer2 for the guitar?

Kick definitly needs some beefing up, get a multiband compressor.. they do a nice job with kicks.. other then that it's really melodic and the synths sound good.. good job!

Posted by seantyas on Feb-25-2004 05:25:

wish i had vanguard or slayer2... i hear they dont work in panther yet so im not wasting money..

ill take a closer look at the kick, though i think its the mix balance over necessary compression... i spent the better part of two years using unnecessary compression on kicks when all the needed was a touch of eq...

I like this even better than 'unreality'. It sounds very dreamy and warm, great stuff. How do you come up with your sounds?

Posted by seantyas on Feb-25-2004 06:39:

all softsynths... after a few sound design-only sessions, ya just keep modifying your sounds and saving as you go, creating a hhuge library..

yay for VSTis! we may be too cheap to buy a virus, but we love em!

Posted by DjCommisad on Feb-25-2004 10:26:

i think the placement (where u chose) to put the guitar is maybe what's bugging sean. it's effective to make the breakdown more... i dunno, a long breakdown is boring unless it changes a bit and is kept interesting, and the guitar can do that, but you either have to go full force with it (almost solo it out, but not completely) or just not use it at all, or move it more into the background a bit.. and move it further back (at least in the first breakdown it comes pretty early)

overall, its good and interesting and i def. want you to keep workin on this baby =D

i've played the hardware game in the past.. had a virus b, supernova 2 , nova, microwave xtk, nordlead2, roland jv2080, drumstation, yammie a4000,orbit, yammie an1x, jomox airbase 99... nothing is as flexible as softsynths, tho i CERTAINLY miss the knobs...

final mixdown..

i kept the guitaar in place... only because I think the fact that where the break is in the song and having that taaken out off context by a clip might throw it off.. if thats not it, i apologize... i like it.

get a MIDI controller (they make ones that just have CC knobs)

problem solved

Posted by seantyas on Feb-25-2004 14:38:

got one, oxygen 8,, but the way it works is cheesy, cuz the knobs have to be mapped to midi ccs... which sux since most synths use different ccs for most things... i think the best way to win this game is get that mackie c4.. that looks the part!

or you can get a MIDI controller with 127 knobs

Posted by seantyas on Feb-25-2004 14:47:

does one exist?

no, it was a joke.. a bad one at that since you didn't get it

Posted by seantyas on Feb-25-2004 19:46:

hey man ya never know, the c4 has 32 pots, so something having 128 could totally exist.. itd just be pricey..

yeh.. it would have to be the size of a mixer though.. and wouldn't be very practicle since in many u can assign the CCs most likely faster then it would take for you to find the one you want out of 127

Posted by alanzo on Feb-25-2004 20:06:

I didn't realize you had a new mix posted.. hrmm... kick is still a little weak.. clap sounds better though..

on a second listen though I'm realizing this entire track is to weak.. get yourself a nice limiter (cuts high peaks in the wave) Sonic Foundry Sound Forge comes with a nice one called the wavehammer...

listen to the difference it makes

download here

keep in mind that I'm not a mastering engineer and I do not know if my method is the BEST way to get a full sound in trance.. but it certainly sounds that way to me

Posted by seantyas on Feb-25-2004 20:16:

as producers and remixers it is NOT our job to master ourselves, and mastering houses are pisssssssssed when u do limiting on your own before it goes to pressing...

there is no postprocessing here at all... i dont trust my ears to master...

i see what ya mean by that mp3.. but trust mastering houses to do it better than i can...
