Worm Popper NEED QUICK INFO ON Yamaha AN1x

Hey peeps, I got an opportunity to pick up an AN1X for $280 - considering I already have a solid setup (Virus KC, JP8080, SNII, JD-800) - is AN1X a worthy addition? I've read many producers are using it, Solar Stone guys are raving about it... I know it's not the kitchen, it's the chef- but still, is it worth spending the dough on?

Thanks much!

It's no doubt that it would be a good synth, but look at your collection so far. You have three of the top trance hardware synthesizers and one hell of a nice analog to add roundness and warmth. If I were you, I would channel my money into effects such as a quality EQ so you can get those sounds to sit well together or better monitors to more accurately monitor your mix. Just my opinion though.

I already got Mackie HR 824's I use some quality VSTi FX. I'm just curious if that synth has any "uniqueness" or something that would make it a worthy aquisition over the rest. Personally, i think that you should be able to create quality stuff with one synth alone, if you put your mind to it.

I looked up some info - seems like a decent synth, has some good reviews, the price is not bad ($280) - but is it worth getting?

Actually the Bomb Factory is now 0wn3d by Digi. About time... I was thinking of getting some external outboard FX stuff but most of the stuff I like is way too expensive and if it breaks, astronomical to fix. Software, while may not be 100% like hardware, yet if something happens to software you don't have a $2000 repair bill. (well, at least I don't).

So, should I get the AN1X or what?

Ask over at www.futureproducers.com, they should know more about it there...if no one here answers.

You need "QUICK INFO" ? Why not fucking google, it provides quite a few pages dedicated to the an1x..

Have a look at the reviews section at Harmony Central. I find them to be quite helpful before I buy something.

Aren't you the sharp one.. What's google? Can you show me how to use the internet, mr. smart ass? I already read up most of the things I could find on google - I needed some objective opinion. Harmony Central is not a great source for objective info. I have not seen too many objective reviews on HC - too many people write to praise their synth. I wanted to get info from people who had the synth used it and based their opinions in the form other than "it rox, man!"

But thanks for your bright suggestion...

BTW, I ended up getting it and I can highly recommend it - for the price it just knocks the socks off in the hardware marked. I'd go as far as comparing it to Virus B. The leads and pads are fantastic! Easy to use and arpegio is sweet! To top it off, it has a sequencer (primitive but effective) so you can go nuts. I found out Solar Stone uses it and their opinion was "No, THAT is a really good synth". Editing is very easy and everything is easily accessible. My only gripe is 1)Output seems a bit quiter than the rest of synth at the same volume 2)Knobs are a bit jumpy - you'd have a hard time fine-dialing a value and 3)Looks like a $100 cassio. But overall, it's very effective and has very good stuff. It's a perfect goa/trance machine. If you want a hardware synth for cheap - AN1X is a definite winner. BTW, many try to compare JP8000/JP8080 to An1x - having a JP8080 I had a chance to compare it - each has it's own plus/minus but overall, if I had to choose I'd keep AN1X.

Seems to be objective to me.
Honestly though, people such as you don't often bother to do a simple search before they ask for "quick info"..

Vert, don't jump to judgement. All the sites, like futuremusic, sos, vintage synth, and even AN1X-devoted sites do not post anything about the problems with the synth. I'm thrilled to read that thre are a lot of positive reviews info on the synth but I needed to know if there are any problems with it, if the synth is reliable, is it worth the money or can it be immitated by another synth. The sound samples posted don't do the instrument justice.

And... For your information, I was reluctant to post a question here for simple reason - wankers like you. Piss off and shut your pie hole telling me how to search. You got nothing to post, so get on with your miserable pathetic life. Quit sticking in your worthless, shit-covered $0.02 of opinion where it's not asked for. Don't you have something else to do, like try to stop a tractor trailer on a busy highway with your body?

Gawd... get a life, loser.

I told you to search, and you are taking offense to this?
What a waste of bandwith that paragraph is, it only shows that you are somewhat creative in your insults, and more of a lowlife than I. You really think your insults are going to hurt my or anyone else's feelings on the internet? And you imply I should kill myself? Fucking grow up.

Vert no offense, but why you telling this guy to go search ?? it's not like he is a newbie, if you look @ his hardware collection..

am sure if you got that many hardware syntsh, you have experience in finding info on the net and all, he was just trying to find someone, who HAS the synth on TA and asking an opnion?

or did i understood it wrong?

I don't want to get involved in this, but I'd wager to say he took offense because of the tone of your reply.

I had one last year...I sold it and really, really regret it. It was an amazing synth...had his own personality. It excelled at pads, strings and bells. But it also made great leads and real TB-303 impersonations. For $280 you got a great deal, my friend. $280 will get you one on eBay in poor shape. I paid a little over $400 for mine in alsmot brand new condition.

Thanks - I know I got a good deal. Ironically, I found it on e-bay, the guy ended up living within 1 hour of driving so, I drove up to snatch it - the synth just rocks. I also hear there are many patches available for download, I just need to get arund getting my MIDI set up (had to rebuild my box) - once I do, I'll start loading new soundsets. Though, even now, some patches are just amazing - "Soaring", "Jean Michelle", "Vangelism", and many other patches that seem to have GOA/Trance style patterns/sounds. Too much gear, too little time - have to learn to master them. I'm almost done with my studio selection - have to find only one more HW synth and then it's going to be all VSTis - I'll be set.

I'll post some demos when I get my machine back to operational state, many people don't know what it's capable of.
