Counter-Strike Problems

I recently got back into CS (I've tried to quit 3 times ). Anyways, the sound just randomly works. I go into CS, and hit play game, and sometimes the sound for the button will play, sometimes not. I get into the game server viewer, and hit Server Info or something. If the sound plays for that, then I know it'll work in game (until I close/reopen CS). If not, I have to close out and try again, sometimes 10 - 20 times until it works.

I'm using Windows XP Pro if that makes a differance. Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum with latest Drives, Geforce 4 Ti 4600, AMD 2100+, 512 mem, 160 gigs of space.

Also, when I exit a game, hl.exe often remains open (although you can only tell if you go into program manager). If I forget to conrol + alt + del and close it, it'll muck up all sorts of other programs.

Can anyone help me out ?

Have you tried reinstalling?

EDIT: Also you might want to try to post on www.steampowered.com, I'm sure someone there can help.

Patch Windows. Get the latest drivers for all your pc cards. and reinstall

like the other guy said, make sure all latest drivers and patches, and completely delete steam and reinstall with a fresh download from steampowered.com

Sounds just like this bug i had in 1.5.. Sometimes I had no sound, and i had to restart about 5 times to finally hear something. Just like you. Still don't know what the problem was, one day I started cs and it just worked :P
