noticed a funny thing of paul oakenfold in a MTV special of "planet of the apes"

mtv was having a special of planet of the apes and of course they started talking about the soundtrack.

They touched upon the dance remixes of "world reknown" paul oakenfold and showed a clip of him and this other guy in front of a computer (pro tools). Paul Oakenfold was telling the guy how he wanted it to sound, stretch it hear, squeeze it there, thump it there, drop it there and the other guy was doiing all the work on PROTOOLS.

If it was ferry corsten, you'd have A BRAND NEW MELODIC ANTHEM straight from his musical mind, onto the keyboards and into your musical mind as you hymmm to it in the shower or at work.

I'm not saying paul oakenfold is full of sh*t, obviously he is but if they gave me a million bucks to do that just for my name I WOULD so I can't talk sh*t about paul oakenfold.

what's wrong is that the industry is using a FAMILIAR NAME to get into the wallets of the general public who don't know any better. Will it touch the hearts of the general public? NO, because you can't fool people into believing falseness of music, they'll spend their money but ultimately is is something they'll always remember? no!

Just the other day, a co-worker friend of mine who is unfamiliar to trance accidently listened to fridge-Love, freedom, tolerance (fridge am mix) in my car and fell in love with it. Straight away, he pointed out that the tune he was hearing was really good.

NOW THAT'S TO ME IS MAGIC.

LONG LIVE TRANCE

Yeah, well I'm not too sure what you're trying to argue here, but if it's the fact that Paul Oakenfold shouldn't be getting the recognition just because he has someone in the studio helping him with the technical side of things, just remember that most electronica artists have people to help them in the studio when they produce music.

The most famous one I can think of is Craig May, who's worked with Sasha and Emerson individually in the studio, and was one of the 3 behind the track "Scorchio", though it was only Sasha and Emerson who were accredited with producing that track. The point is, though, it's the big names who go in there knowing what sound they want, they just have techincians in there with them to help - well, with the technical side of things, yet I doubt that they have any creative input into the process at all.

If your arguing that he's just ripping off someone elses work by remixing some music from the Planet of the Apes soundtrack (or whatever) then I'd just argue that that's what the purpose of a remix is. To take an existing subject matter, and adapt it to suit your own sound.

Actually, I don't know what you're trying to argue, but I will agree with you on one thing: as much as I respect Oakenfold for what he's done for dance music in the past, I dislike all his tunes and think he's fairly unadventurous with his live-sets. He doesn't deserve the money which he is doubtless raking in.
