Sona = Closed

I came across this on another board... can't say I am all that surprised..

Merci...

Montreal, February 25th 2004

The Sona star fades out...

It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Sona. After careful consideration and market analysis, the owners and directors, 514 Productions and Jet Management, have decided to put an end to the club's operation and this, as of now. The club is thus closed.

Please take note that this decision has in no way any affect on the 514 Productions activities and events.

We will all keep precious memories of Sona, a landmark that has swept thousands of clubgoers off their feet for almost 8 years. We would sincerely like to thank all our faithful clientele which has contributed to the Sona vibe and we wish all the best and much prosperity to all those who support and nourish Montreal's electronica scene.

Thank you...

new sona or old aona is gone?

V.2 = new

But they like to remind people the name 'Sona' has been around for 8 years.. so it can get confusing.

it was obvious and it's the best decision they could take ...

RIP SONA

This is a sad news.

Last Saturday, I tried the place for the first time(and obviously, the last) and I found it had so much more to offer than what we've seen or heard about lately. But I got so many vibes of what Sona could be, that it was hard to seize it. For instance, I really enjoyed the industrial vibe you get from the pipes in the ceilling and from the bass sound reverbing in the steel structures of the old forum. But at the same time, the doors and walls in the main room reminded me of my elementary and high school gymnasium.
For sure, another visit would have probably revealed the place under a new angle, worst or better, I dunno.

Anyway, I hope to catch their resident around town sometime.

Yeah, sad news. I was there(Sona v.2) once and I liked it. The club was missing something but for me it was a matter of time.
RIP SONA
Nothing compares to the old Sona!

I only went to Sona twice over the years but I always had a good time there...

First time was in 2000 and I didn't even know Max Graham was spinning till I saw the poster inside on the wall.. Before going in - I'll never forget seeing that rope and all these ppl standing around in the rain waiting to get in. lol. Luckily we didn't wait too long, but it wasn't my french that helped any that's for sure.
