I was thinking the same thing about it being hard to pass up. Maybe ill see you there this time since it probably wont be nearly as crowded as Sasha's show was.

Angry Oakenfold at the Amp in Tampa 3/3/04

He did a 2 hour set alright... came on at 12:15am and played until 2:15. Only problem, the club didn't close until 3, so he just up and quit after two hours and let K-Todd (or whatever the hell his name is - all I know is that he killed the crowd) close out. Unheard of! I have never been to a show where the headliner didn't close out. Tiesto, Ferry, PvD, Sasha - all of them have blown up the room right until they raised the house lights.

The hell of it is, up til now I was a big Oakenfold fan. He was the first trance DJ I ever heard. I've enjoyed his music selection over the years, and it wasn't like he didn't have a good set at the Amp (anyone got a track list?). He spun some stuff that had the crowd going nuts. But to just say "ok, 2 hours, I'm done"...? Inexcusable. I lost a good bit of respect for him last night. And if I were the club owner, I doubt I'd ever invite him back.

Question Anyone got a track list

Does anyone have a track list from his set? I'm still disappointed in his behavior, but there were still some great tracks I'd love to get ahold of.

agree, although i'm not that disappointed by his early leaving, this is only because i was surprised to hear such an excellent set. the first 45 min were not that great for me, but the last hour was incredible, it was amazing, and he wasn't even playing trance, which is what i like and what he used to be known for, but anyways the house and breaks he was dropping were fantastic!!, i was surprised that the last few tracks he played were full-blown uplifting trance bliss, awesome!! i was still kind of let down when i finally figured out that he wasn't on a piss-break and he was done for the night, but i left with a happy face

Smiley DJ

No doubt about the music selection. I'm not a big house fan and normally dislike breaks too. Yet, he managed to weave it all together with some trance and progressive - he was all over the freakin' map! And when he cut loose with "Naked Angel", the place went nuts (or maybe it was just me, my sister and our friend DJ Santana ). And I thought he was just going to keep pushing it up. But he bailed so abruptly I was like "Where's he going? He can't be done..." It wasn't even a particularly great song to go out on. Dang, finish what you started, Oakenfold! You could have blown the roof off the Amp!

Yeah, Oakey played some really kick ass breaks last night. It was my first time seeing him and I have to say, I always thought the infamous "Jesus pose" of his was just people talking smack about him. But I got the chance to see him do it all night last night. He did play some kick ass tracks though, but hes not the most talented mixer there is. He throws tracks in at the wrong time, he dosent hold his mixes for more than 5 seconds, he even trainwrecked a couple of times, and the needle kept jumping. I figured for the money he makes, I'd get a perfect dj set. All in all, it was a pretty good time. After the show, I went next door to get some pizza, and when I was leaving, I ran into Oakey and Liquid Todd around the corner. I guess they were waiting for their ride or something. I couldnt believe how small Oakenfold is though, but he told us we rock, so it was all good.

Paul Oakenfold was a huge disappointment. Granted, I really didn't expect him to go off because he didn't the last two times that I saw him, but I sure as hell didn't expect the man to walk off the stage in the middle of his set. WTF? Yes, he did have a good set, but honestly...I have heard better sets than that. He was all over the place. His mixes weren't clean and they didn't flow as well as you would expect from a big name. He spun trance, house, breaks, progressive. I understand that he was a little annoyed in the beginning because of the sound issue (feedback from the mic) but that got fixed and he had 2 1/2 hours after that to come back. He started to build once and it came back down. Then he did it again and after Naked Angel I really thought the man was just going to go off. We were all anticipating it. Nothing. He exited the stage. He was done. For those of you that don't think it was a big deal...would it help to know that he was brought in there to spin from 12am - 3am and gave no indication whatsoever that he was going to end early? He basically told the guys on the stage that he wasn't into it and that he was "done" spinning. What? That place was packed wall to wall...with every hand in the air...on a freakin Tuesday night. That place was a madhouse and the vibe was insane. Never mind that this is days before WMC and was right after two big shows (Sasha & DJ Santana). Is he crazy? He started to build up with phat ass trance and then excused himself to a side room to go hang out with some groupies. Sorry if I sound bitter, but I honestly feel like he disrespected the AMP and our town. He could have at least made up an excuse or said something to us. You don't just stop spinning at 2:15am when the club closes at 3am and let some breaks DJ from NY come on to finish your set. Liquid Todd seemed like a nice guy, but what was with the old school disco breaks? Horrible ending. He cleared the dance floor and killed the club. The vibe in the club diminished within 5 minutes. You could feel it and you could see it. I'm sorry, but if I was hired to do a show I would give the people what they paid for. I would blow the roof off the club. I would make sure that people talked about it for weeks. They will talk about this but it will be negative. A ton of us (a lot of them being DJ's) were all off to the side in a VIP area (props to Painted Puppy) and everyone kind of just looked at each other like "are you kidding me?". Just this past Friday night Sasha was at the AMP. People might not have liked Sasha's sets back in Dec and Feb (because of the house) but the man at least goes off and gets into it. I didn't see him on the 27th, but he spun house back in Dec and even though I didn't love it I have got to give him props that he went off. He spins until the lights come on and then asks if he can spin "one more". Then of course you have my best friend, DJ Santana, who had way more stage presence up there spinning on the 28th. I will continue to love and support Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, and Paul van Dyk....and of course my best friend, DJ Santana. These guys are still about the music and they all put on awesome shows. All of them just go off when they spin. They are so into the crowd and into the music. You just feed off of their energy and enthusiasm. Hey AMPHITHEATER...bring us Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, and Paul van Dyk! I have never seen Armin van Buuren live but I defintely would love to see him too!
