It is worth it when you have all the people going nuts on a kitchen dancefloor or family room hahaha.... I guess the pay off for me anyway, is in a good time and having fun and the pay is secondary, usually, just for the equipment! House parties rock!
hey jules, heard you played an electro-trance set... what kinda tracks you play and what was the audience (im guessing a 25th???)... please i am curious.
Yeah it was a mid to late 20 something yuppie party in St Kilda...
Kinda started off for the first hour PLaying housier type stuff then a bit of vocal proggy stuff like Eliza - LIttle green men then into sorta tech house and then electro/trance stuff like Punx - Rock, Rock your Body rock, right of way, some tomcraft, trance setters - the saga, monkia cruise - disco-tech, Afterburn - wintersun etc...they dug that stuff the most...then some newer trance classix at the end
and christos...yeah it was fun..and getting the stuff in was easy enough...but the next morning..hungover..me and one other guy....4 stories up...no fun
sounds like our new years..... getting stuff from one place on the 4th floor (like the bloody subs) with no lifts to the other place on the 6th floor (yay! lifts!)
then all the setup, while kids are running around, then trying to make it kid safe before we went back to pick it back up.
but it was fun
Yeh i do mobile gigs fairly often. I have a pretty huge setup to.
2 FBT MaxX4a Tops 400w RMS each weighs 16kg each
2 FBT MaxX9sa Subs 900w RMS each weighs 26kg each
1 FBT MaxX2a Monitor 300w RMS weighs 13kg
2 Technics 1200mk2s in Road Cases
1 Pioneer CMX3000
1 Pioneer DJM3000
Road case for the Pioneer gear
^^^
and that doesn't include lights which i hire
Seting up and transporting the gear is very hard work. Especially if their are stairs at the venue.
Their are some dedicated sites about mobile DJ'ing try www.djzone.com
Done it before, will do it again.
Can't wait to get some freefloats for it tho

had my first ever mobile gig last weekend, damn i hate speakers and amps lol Heavy ass things and trust me, you dont wanna try to fit too much into a hyundai excel, they dont like it :P
Managed to cut my finger when laying out some gaffer tape so i had to set up whilst not using a finger lol not quite fun.
Very successful night however, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.
House parties rock.
Moving Shit Sucks, but its worth it imo. My biggest gripes are phono wires and speaker cables. They should be changed so they just plug in, instead of having to fuck around with them.

Jules plays techno....
Jace and I did it for a friends bday a few weeks back.
Lugging and setting up the equipment before and after was a real pain but so worth it. Nothing like playing for all your friends and watching them enjoy themselves. Will definately do it again had a fantastic time.
