What do you do when You've got NOTHING to listen to

Right, I think I'm losing interest in trance.

So now I'm listening to every other form of music like metal(which I used to really love when I was a kid), rock, pop,hip hop, RnB,Latin dance, techno, house(mainly latin house).Even classical music.

And guess what..I'm starting to dig those 80s shitty pop music.

Found out that all of them made me yawn.I'm becoming like my father who just stopped listening to music all together and just listens to some radio shit or just tune in to the news radio station!

So my question is? How do I stop this rot?

Are you guys facing the same problems?

if i have nothing to do, then im prolly doin nothing

actually i usually pop in some DVDs, or futs around with avid for a bit. lately its basically what I do when im bored.

Stop listening to music altogether.

Some time apart will help rekindle your interest

For some undefined reason listening to 'Prodigy - Funky Shit' loud seems so solve all my problems. Dunno why.

start venturing into other electronica genres such as prog. Diversity is the key I find to happy listening

Exactly what Webmeister said........

Just stop listening to music altogether, have a few weeks break, and then you will find that you will regain interest.

Also try listening to genres other than trance, because too much of the same can get a bit boring

You seem to be in the similar situation I was in all of last year. I've been an adamant Trance lover since 1999. However, all of 2003 saw my love affair with Trance wither away as I began to focus my listening energy on rock, hip-hop, and R&B; genres, which prior to 1999, dominated my Winamp play lists. I dont know what caused my interest in Trance to fade: I was either unimpressed with the current Trance being produced, some rock or hip-hip group re-sparked my interest in other genres, maybe my move away from college (I graduated last year) had something to do with it, or, more likely, a combination of many things caused it to fade.
But back in December my interest in Trance came back like a boomerang does to its thrower. As the year died down I found myself very unimpressed by what I was listening to and found myself missing the genre that pretty much ruled my collegiate life, and was amazed to see how much better the music had gotten when I returned.
I like to compare this phase in my life to that of breaking up and returning to an old girlfriend. You date a girl for two, three years, after a while you start to wonder if you could do better and start to get worried because youve been with her for so long that she expects total commitment, so you break up with her to regain you freedom and give yourself the opportunity to find someone better. After a while of dating, you notice how uninteresting these one-note, cookie-cutter chicks are, become extremely bored and unnerved by the current single life you lead, and finally decide to rekindle the love you had with the girl that has always understood you.

So, just keep doing exactly what you are doing listening to other genres and forget about Trance for a while. Theres probably a good reason youre listening to them anyways. Eventually, youll soon find that whatever youre listening to will quickly seem banal, not getting any better (changes in rock and hip-hop take years to happen, the revolutionary changes may even take decades). Thus having realized that fact, I couldnt wait to return to Trance to find that, not only did it still evoke the same emotions in me that it so effectively used to, it had changed for the better.

Well personally I love anything with beats electronic and some rap mostly but my buddies listen to a hudge rang of music so I've learned to put up with everything try borrowing some friends cds of other music when you start to apreciate all music you'll start to love trance more and more

Posted by TheKidsWantTechno on Mar-03-2004 06:21:

i was/am going through a kind of similar stage... i've started listening to a lot of chill music, deep house, jazz, etc, even listening to some classical here and there, and a lot of the classic rock i used to listen to back in high school... but you gotta keep in mind, there's nothing wrong with this

as long as the music you're listening to makes you happy, it doesn't matter what it is... although it seems that other categories come and go, trance will always do this for me

I can't believe you don't realize it's different strokes for different folks. The reason rap exists is the same reason all other genres of music exist: because it has a fan base that loves and craves it. I don't like rap much either, but at least I recognize it's social importance, you closed-minded person.

PS: Learn to spell!

Rap is shit, however hip hop is excelent, that is where the people whom have brains write, and rhyme about shit, I love hip hop to death but i hate rap, rap is where the ignorant mother ******s yell and blab about their fucking rented jewelry.

As for genre surfing i do it so much, trance no longer is my main flavor to say the least, trip hop is where i went for a while, and techno and prog, and a bit of radio music, trip hop is a very nice genre check it out. Dont even say you are tired of music till you understand power noise/ expirimental noise, cause until you can explain those genres to someone whom has never heard of them you havent even explored half of what music or even Electronic music has to offer.

Posted by mentalbarter on Mar-03-2004 10:44:

you can never have nothing to listen to
there is a staggering amount of music in the world, take some time out to discover something new
i recommend jamie cullum album at the moment

Posted by Sand Leaper on Mar-03-2004 10:53:

If you don't have any music that you would like to hear at the moment, go check out another style, or just go outside into the forest and enjoy the silence or something. There is no such thing as "having nothing to listen to".

Posted by chesco on Mar-03-2004 10:58:

expand your horizons. you never know you may like what you hear.
