Concerened

Alright everyone. I'm starting this thread because I see things posted on this forum as well as other forums on how The NY Forum is the worst forum on TA.com. What's up with that? I must admit that I have seen some ridiculous posts/threads, and that some threads seem to stray off topic too often. I just don't see how that relates to being the worst forum? I don't know. Being that I've only been a member of TA since Sept.'03, I still consider myself a "newbie" with limited priviliges and don't want to overstep my boundries by offending anyone. But I'm starting to see a pattern on this forum of people constantly contradicting and fighting over other people's posts and opinions on many subjects. From my personal experience here, I'll admit, that sometimes I find it quite intimidating to post because there are a lot of members who take posts out of context and take them to extremes by posting be-littling things and crap like that. It's almost like they want to instigate a confrontation of some sort. And I think it's rediculous to create a thread just to " stir up some shit" and try to piss people off. I joined this community to meet other people that share the same love and passion that I do for this genre of music, not to get into a pissing matches. Each and everyone of us have our own opinions on different topics, and that's our right to have an opinion, and that's what makes us all unique. We all share are similiar in the fact that we joined this board to share our experiences, whether good or bad, with eachother. All I'm saying is that maybe we should all try to show a little more respect for eachothers opinions. I know that disagreements are inevitable, but actually, they help to build character to a thread. So basically, it's your right to post what you want, just remember that there are alot of different people involved in this whose feelings should be taken into consideration as often as possible. So, go ahead, have your fun with me now. That's the key---FUN---. There's a big difference between breaking chops and laughing than intentionally saying something to stab and be-little.

Chris, I couldnt agree with you more. I also have been a member of TA for a long time now, and despite my limited time, I still like to browse through the NY forum just to see the state of music in our city and in this community. But I'd say over the last year, some posts are absolutely worthless, while others turn into a shouting match. Every thread in this forum should be for everyone, and hopefully contributes some information or knowledge about music....Some people may need to realize that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to posting..

IMO, this is because this board (and much of the NYC trance following) is in the hands of a younger and generally underinformed crowd who latched onto an excellent type of music at a time when it had close to no following. They have formed very narrow notions of what trance and trance events should be, with little or no regard for who or what came before them. Now, when someone dares mention something "different" about NYC trance (like the concept of girls actually being on the dancefloor in significant numbers), they freak out, because they have appointed themselves gurus of the scene, and their opinion is not to be questioned (this is not limited to trance, this will usually happen in some form on any bulletin board discussing music).

I certainly don't mean to insult the fine members of TA as a whole, but surely, by skimming through any of the boards, I think the above issue becomes quite evident. Ask any trance fan who has been into the music for over 5 years, and I daresay they would agree.

If the bulletin board, and more importantly trance in NYC is ever to improve, its going to require an attitude adjustment in some of its most zealous followers.

Peace,
Slick

there is plenty of intelligent conversation in this section of the boards you just got to look for it =)

Mr_Slick:

i dont think its necessarily fair to have already judged the trance/EDM knowledge of every member in the NYC forum....sure, every crowd has its few bad apples but for the most part the people are aight.

and this is for everyone who keeps complaining about the status of the NY boards- why don't you DO something about changing it rather than continuing to talk about it?

This is exactly what I was talking about - I thought if I worded my post correctly I could avoid this. Did you see what I wrote up there? I'm not "judging the trance knowledge of the whole forum", just speaking about a certain group within the trance community (and they happen to be very large one at that, these "bad apples"). If it came off as too broad, I apologize, as I'm not one to paint people, nevermind my fellow tranceheads, with a broad brush.

Anyways, the people I spoke about in my previous post very much rule this board - their posts and drama are everywhere.

Again, I am a fan of trance, just like everyone else here, and I come here to discuss trance. I wish people would see that instead of jumping the gun and attacking the person instead of their viewpoint.

And tranceeyes, if I had the money, I'd throw my own party in a second. Until that happens, I guess we'll be stuck on this board.

Peace,
Slick

sot and BBNYC-

I definitely agree with both of you.
As of late, I've found that it has become almost forbidden for people to just post random shit. For all of you hecklers and peanut-gallery members out there, just drop the badass attitude and let people have fun. If you really have an issue, take it to PM's. I used to enjoy the days where there were random threads all over the place. The thing that has made this forum "the worst" is that fact that people have forgotten how to kick back and let the good times roll. Ignore the shit you don't want to see, and have fun.

There is to many cry babies in this forum. I mean come on people.....this place isn't as bad as you all think. I mean if you guys would have seen the Toronto forums before party princess got the boot....you would understand.

i like to have fun. i used to get pissed off when certain people said certain things and i'm sure these people know that i didn't like them. i've even told a few that i didn't like them. but now my attitude is much more relaxed. *i* get along with everyone, although some may not get along with me. but i dont care. i dont think i flame or anything. (unless its pvd). but yes, i do change topics alot. i can't help myself. and alot of my topic changed are in threads that were going nowhere or have no relevance, etc. like the 197th pvd thread. i feel it is my obligation to change the topic. heh. but all in all, i love my nyta people (except highmay, he's a prick and a yankee fan ) but seriously, i love you all. even though most dont know me or whatever. i dont see this forum as being shitty. the only thing i see as shitty are the people who take EVERYTHING so seriously. like, if i flame pvd people get offended, like he's their dad or something. that's just ghey.

This is exactly how I feel about this. We should all just look to have fun and keep the attitudes to a mum. Like I said, it is inevitable that there will be contradictions and disagreements, it's just some peoples ego's/attitudes, in blunt honesty, fucking suck.

I agree - also, when people argue, opponents of said argument will take their statements TOO personally, and attack the person themeselves, overlooking their argument/position. That's the difference between a civilized debate and a flame war.

I would attribute some of this hard-headedness to the devoted following trance has here in NYC. This is a good thing in that these people are the people who keep the scene running; they support the DJs who come in and keep tabs on the trance world. However, this can be a bad thing in that this same level of devotion causes some fans to confine "trance" to a very narrow definition; and that makes discussion about the subject difficult.

Overall, the board is cool, but lots of the attitudes can irk you. I try to be clear and courteous in my posts, and this seems to keep things moving. However, it does pay to ignore most of the disses you come across - they are simply not worth the time - I mean, this is a friggin' message board. Not like people can "meet each other outside" to settle things!

Peace,
Slick
