Tony Adams... Zola.... whats Diouf doing there when he cant make the liverpool team!!!

Posted by Xavier on Mar-05-2004 00:31:

why ONLY those countries?

Not really in the top 125 but for these countries:

Australia: Johnny Warren, Craig Johnston, Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka
Wales: Ian Rush...etc
Scotland should mention Graeme Souness.

Posted by willsimo on Mar-05-2004 00:53:

Giggs?

A couple of the players seem a little young to be on that list.

Because Pele doesn't think that players from any other country are/were good enough to make his "greatest" 125 players list?

Posted by gdj^ on Mar-05-2004 01:03:

Rasta

Zico, the great ALFREDO Di Stefano,Maradona, ect!! the great ones!!

maybe kewell would make ths list, but the other aussies aren't really that good on a world scale. Rush was good, but wales were pretty rotten when he was playing, so he couldn't be judged well at that level. I think neville southall was another welshman who could have made that list playing for another nation.

Enzo is from Uruguay and he's on the list.

Is the list not the 125 greatest players alive today. this is maybe why some are so young.

Posted by PacMan on Mar-05-2004 13:21:

seriously steven gerrard should be on that list.

Yeah, good point.

Just seems a little strange to me that a few players who have barely started their careers can already be deemed of the best 125.

You are probably correct though.

have to disagree with you there... he hasnt made as big an impact as the others on that list have made... wat surprised me the most is he included davor suker who only performed at france 98 after which he was gone as quickly as he came up ... another surprise is that ryan giggs didnt make the list...

Posted by dukes on Mar-06-2004 18:57:

at least 50 of the list have played in italy

i know i will missed some

Posted by evil_bastard on Mar-06-2004 19:02:

Giggs, Beardsley, Gascoigne? Where are they?

If Diouf was Brazilian or Italian there's no way he'd make that list. Obviously Pele doesn't want to be accused of favouring the 'big' countries so he's thrown in a few players like Diouf to balance it out a bit. The result is a crap and worthless list. There's no way Diouf deserves to be in there.

Posted by Genesis Evolved on Mar-08-2004 08:51:

Off the top of my head:

Ian Rush
Jrgen Kohler
Adrian Mutu
Preben Elkjaer Larsen

Posted by DJ-Fuq on Mar-08-2004 09:26:

The list was a complete joke, theres no point even talking about it.

Posted by Incantation_UK on Mar-08-2004 23:05:

Where was Jarizhino, one of the greatest BRAZILIAN players of all time?

Posted by gatecrasher on Mar-08-2004 23:34:

Agreed the list is crap, loads of stars missing

Posted by Durafei on Mar-08-2004 23:40:

No matter what kind of list you make, there will be those who deserve it and are not on it.

Maybe if he made top 3, which would include Pele, Maradona and Cruyff than noone would complain. Otherwise there are bound to be complaints.

I do think, however, this list is a pretty close approximation.

Posted by DJ-Fuq on Mar-09-2004 04:36:

The uefa golden jubilee top 50 thing is a joke as well. I hate these things, theyre all popularity contests ffs. Beckhams the 21st best european player ever?? Yeah right.
