TWO TRIBES Sydney Wrap up.
Ok well 2:30pm thought id kick it off.
What did you all think?
i got there a little later than i wanted, about 1am, had to work at nova then do some live crosses backstage....with that out of the way i met up with everyone and checked out some acts....
brain is a bit fried atm so ill give a detaild accoutn later...
but for me FERGIE absolutley tore it up an was the number 1 set of the night for me!!!! he worked the crowd into a frenzy with some awsome tech trance tunes.....or as he told myself and webby "its fergie house"
Picotto was my close second, Lizard and Pulsar, nuff said i think....
Tomcraft was ripping out som wicked tunes also, with the likes of Traffic etc...
those 3 were my highlights of the night.
production was next to none.... a WAY bigger improvment on last year... with the tribal feel and the palm trees and fire stick thingys.... worked well....
Lighting was amazing!!! and i got caught up getting a lot of photos.. and god damn did they come out well!!
Sound was top notch, no complaints here, except for the massive echo from the back of the room, but thats expected from this type of room, its no Sensation :P
will write more later with som pics
you didnt see Hybrid?

Was a great night! highlights Lucien Foort and Fergie. Still really trashy so will write more later on
Well i had a wicked night
The production wasn't to bad i thought, the sound echoed up the back, but do people really think this is ever going to stop? Every party at homebush has that same sound problem, so i go expecting it, find a good spot on the floor and forget about it
I thought this years was WAY bigger than last years and the year before, it looked like it got a pretty decent turnout.
The lines to get in where a bit of a dissapointment
Ok now onto the sets.
FIrst up it was LUCIEN FOORT! - This guy rocked as expected, pitty i missed half his set lineing up
HYBRID - Good for first half then i lost interest, to much standing around not enough dancing. So i made off to check out the GK room for...
FERGI - OMG im so glad hybrid sucked and i went to see him He was crazy, best set of the night for me!! He really has some skillz, might not mix it like a techno DJ just yet, but he is definatley on his way. His scratching, sampling and multitude of other tricks were just amazing
PICOTTO - Not to bad, not great but he still was pretty good, first half he played the new stuff he is known for, techy stuff which was pretty good then he played his classics for the last part which were great for old times sake
TOMCRAFT - First part of his set i saw was good, but decided to check out the astrofunk room.
LAWRENCE - thought he was starting at 5:30 but he was just finishing up, his set was pretty poor but it looked like he was frustrated with BT setting up.
BT - Sorry but he just sucked, terrible stuff.
I saw a bit of green velvet and he was pretty good, but fergie stole me for that part of the night
Overall a pretty good night and i rate it better than last year. Still not as good as the first TT tho
Well another year, abother Two Tribes.
Yeh, the production this year kicked last years ass! The GK room was simply awsome for such a size room! Those lasers were the best lasers me has seen. Props to the lighting dudes in there, really created an awsome atmosphere!
Even the Astrofunk room was good, except that the visuals are crud. I stil can't see the point of visuals. No one cares anyway, all they do is add more ambient light in the room.
FOr me Lucien was the best. Tribal/Funky Progressive/Breaks, it was awsome. PLEASE SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW THE LAST TRACK HE PLAYED! THAT SONG WAS OFF THE FKN HOOK!
Hybrid started SO well, but kinda died half way through the set.
I only saw the last quarter of Fergie, but OMFG. Watching and listening to him just absolutely f**k up tracks, sample shit from anything, and bah! Made me feel so much less of a dj! He was absolutely rockin.
Picotto started well, died again in the middle like Hybrid, but i wish i saw the end! Lizard and Pulsar
Lawrence was Lawrence, that typical Tech/Prog/Trance stuff. A style of his own, was awsome.
And BT, well . . . im not even gonna try and be nice. He was crap, so we left half way through his set.
Overall a top night. Thanks to all the Syd Posse who turned out. Made the night guys!
And now, 36 hours later and no sleep, im going to bed
just got home and heading to bed now.. but if I had to say one quick thing its that BT was very, very disappointing! I'm not gonna critise him as an artist because he is in fact responsible for some of the greatest electronic tracks ever, but as a DJ - slightly arrogant, bad track selection, boring and mellow (not the kind of stuff u want to hear at 5am when ur trying ur hardest to stay awake).. if he didn't have his big guns like Flaming June and Dreaming to throw in, the set would have been extremely poor. Other than that had an awesome night, good to party with the TA's u know who u are...
Lucien, Hybrid and Picotto did it for me.. phwoar picotto had the crowd at his finger tips when he he played lizard and then into pulser..
for now.... zzZzz
definitely went with no expectations and left thinking 'well im glad i didnt pay'.
Not my type of music, sum random stuff i liked but too hard and techy and just crap in the other arena no1 got me dancing at all! no vibe, but quite good stage setup and lots of normal looking ppl which i didnt expect! i had more fun sitting and chatting but thats just me.
downers of the night: didnt like the music, got burned by a stupid girl waving her ciggy
uppers: nice ppl, vip access and tiesto - traffic!!
hey guys!
i got my photos up!

wicked pics cam
i posted mine on itm.
http://www.inthemix.com.au/photos7/...oTribes04_Juggs
fucking hell, now that's a lighting setup!! jesus! i'd almost go to sydney just for those lasers let alone TT, shit!!
... ahem... good photo lad...
Well I'm glad i went. I was very disapointed at the production though. NOTE: I spent the entire night in the Godspeed room as i am a massive hardcore fan. Like all the godspeed room had was a dual laser at the front and 2 single lasers at the sides. A couple of intels in the middle and 2 screens either side of the DJ. I really was looking forward to intelligent lights on the roof and surrounding me. Plus stronger lasers. The lasers in Godspeed seemed week. I just felt that they didn't do justice to the 1000 people who were in Godspeed.
Anyway on to the DJ's
Hixxy was awesome as to be expected. Top moment was when he dropped "Your Shinning" - Breeze and Styles.
Menix was disapointing and manged to halve the full dance floor that hixxy had
Scott Brown's first hour was absolutely nuts. As soon as he stepped up to the booth the room packed out. He played enormously uplifting. Really feel good happy stuff. Started off with his own track which made the crowd go absolutely nuts. Everyone went crazy during his set. The end was pretty hard though which wasn't too much of my kind of thing.
Also i found the MC really annoying. Like i wanted to enjoy the uplifting build ups and listen to the vocals and he kept talking over them.
Also have to say sound was pretty bad in the room. Not enough mids and too much bass which was annoying as the melody and vocals in Happy hardcore are in the midrange.
Anyway had a great night. Was great hanging out with Phil (hyperdimension). Looking forward to Hyperspeed. Also was great to see plenty of the TA's and TTers there.
ah so THAT's where cam and rach were ;P
spotted beemz backstage behind Lucien but after that.. gone!
Good
- where the hell were all the cops and sniffer dogs?
- i got my camera in (YAY)
- no raid (gotta love rumours)
- Fergie
- the TA's that I did manage to see
- getting my ticket at 9pm to avoid the massive queues later on
- if there were heaps of teeny boppers i didn't notice them (unlike TT03)
- rain stopped just at the right time, allowing us to sit down outside and chill out
- GK room (it seemed bigger than last year or was it because there were less people in there perhaps?)
- Suae & Hixxy. I'm not a fan of hard but man did those guys pump it!
Bad
- BT (yeh he dropped the big tunes but his lateness + set were apalling)
- sound still needs work (what's with the cutting out?)
- missed out on nervous and peewee. HyperD tells me they were absolutely uplifting (DAMN!!!)
I had a great time, definitely thought the overall vibe was an improvement over TT03. Like Rach said the music wasn't the highlight though, and just too tech/prog/hard for my tastes.
Even if Sasha *had* been there I don't think there would have been much improvement for me.
Next stop... Utopia
oh forgot this one
Quote of the night from the VIP room
Tomcraft: Hey man do you want a spliff *holds lit joint up*
Fergie: nah man i got my own

Haha was that before or after their sets?
I wonder how it's possible to do a good set after being affected.
I had spent a bit of time deciding on whether to go to this due to the ticket price and the lack of "big name" performers whom I would've wanted to see. It would've been great if Ferry Corsten was there... Two Tribes 2002 had Tiesto, Two Tribes 2003 had Armin Van Buuren, so Two Tribes 2004 with Ferry would've been perfect - three of the most respected melodic/uplifting trance DJs each year in a row! So without Ferry, I was hesitant. In the end I decided that I'd rather spend the weekend with friends than have a boring night at home, and $84 is money that I can easily make back in many ways, or already have. Since I wasn't so enthusiastic I didn't plan much and so didn't bother to check my camera batteries - they were flat. Cam, I'm glad you took some nice lasers and lighting shots.
Since Ferry wasn't going to be there I wasn't expecting much from the night. I was relying on Christopher Lawrence to give me my trance hit, and the Godspeed room to get back to my hardcore rave roots.
I started lining up at 9:00pm and got in around 9:30pm. Luckily the line was under cover, since it was raining. I was surprised to hear some excellent uplifting tracks up to midnight by Nervous, Jumping Jack, and Pee Wee. I was glad to have arrived so early. I was expecting to hear pretty hard techno and hard trance, since that's what you'd expect from them at Sublime and Plastic. But there was none of that very hard unemotional crap. I wish I could identify the tracks but I couldn't... that's when tranceaddicts can help but there were none in sight... Joel, Cam? I ended up moving to the front and cheering on Jumping Jack for dropping such great tracks! The crowd around me felt the same way! You guys missed out, I wish you were all there to witness it. I found Wade at the end of Pee Wee's set, but by then it was too late. Though I think we heard Tiesto - Traffic... but that's nowhere near as uplifting as many of the tracks played earlier. The time up to midnight was the main highlight of my night. I'm thinking that these guys were told to play uplifting trance to compensate for Ferry Corsten's absence.
When Mario Piu got on I left and met up with friends who just got in, and went off to the Godpseed room and right into the rave world. Suae was pumping out some powerful trancecore, it was great stuff. Hixxy got on at 1am and it was some more excellent energetic and often melodic/uplifting trancecore with a few classic happy hardcore tracks. I hadn't danced to trancecore in a while so it was good to do it again, it's great fun to dance to 160+ bpm. It sure gives a good workout. It was great hanging with Josh and other friends too, I thought I was the only one on here who loved this music.
When it was 3:30am I went off to see how BT was. I found Joel and he told me it wasn't BT but Christopher Lawrence. I agreed with Joel that he didn't look like BT. The set was so slow that it just didn't feel like anything that I've heard from Christopher Lawrence. I was expecting progressive trance, but we got progressive house. I stayed for most of it, it was a bit boring but tolerable. I met quite a few tranceaddicts in there (Cam, Rachael & Faz, Erratik, Matt) and some other friends so that was fun. After some herbs the boringness faded away. I found Syd, Gil and Jace while affected, I'm sorry if I was acting weird.
I'm thinking that he played slow stuff because of the room he was put in andwas trying to play for such a crowd. I think it was the wrong room for him. Maybe if he was put into the main room and at an earlier time he'd play the music he is actually known for.
The late BT got on at 5:30am and started off with stuff that you definitely wouldn't call "dance music". I like his older smooth progressive house sounds, not his new electro/breaks/rock stuff. I was patient... or should I say I felt like a rock and "couldn't be bothered moving", so I stood around. Well I was extremely pleased to hear a lot of the smooth atmospheric stuff later on. We got to hear his live renditions of Dreaming and Flaming June, plus some other nice and uplifting vocal tracks. Flaming June was my highlight of his set... that melody in that track is one of the most deeply uplifting I've ever heard (and one of the first that got me hooked into "uplifting" music) and had great emotional effect when he played it.
After BT I went back into the Godspeed room, and I think it was Tom E playing hardcore. The hardened chemical-fuelled ravers remained in the mostly empty room. I hanged around until that was over, then went to see Nik Fish and Amber finish the night with the standard dark and hard tripe you'd expect from them... which I expected from the first three DJs but gladly did not come true. I stood around appreciating the fluoro multicoloured lasers and the patterns they were forming. It was certainly great eye candy.
The main room was twice as big as last year's, because they took out the partition in the middle. I didn't notice the echo until later in the night, was it happening all night and did it depend on where you were in the room?
The only reason why there is a Godspeed room is because Powerhouse Productions is one of the promoters. They are the ones who put on Utopia, the biggest rave event in Sydney. If you think production was great at Two Tribes, you should see how it is in Utopia at the Superdome. I first saw those honeycomb speaker sets at Utopia last year, I guess they decided to use them again here. The production at Two Tribes in 2002 was dismal, there weren't any lasers and it looked cheap. It's thanks to Powerhouse that we get excellent lighting and lasers. They are working off their experience from Utopia, which they have ran many years.
I'm glad they moved the hardcore room to the big hall downstairs, it suits the music so much better (dirty warehouse rave style). It could've easily been a totally seperate event. Well actually Godspeed is or was a seperate event run by Powerhouse for the rave scene some years ago. Powerhouse simply decided to include the event into Two Tribes as another room. Would you prefer not to have the Godspeed room and pay a cheaper ticket price? Or how about have Godspeed run as an actual seperate event e.g. have seperate tickets? It sure is an expensive ticket for the hardcore ravers who plan on staying in the Godspeed room all night. Josh, I know you spent a lot for that night, topped up with the taxi ride. You could have seen Scott Brown and Hixxy at "real" rave events (if you check out overdrive.com.au you would know of such events). I saw Hixxy and Scott Brown at Hyperspeed last year, tickets were around $40 and it was a more genuine dirty, raw and underground rave feel. The problem with multi-room events is that your tickets are helping to pay for rooms that you never would want to go into e.g. breaks and house rooms. I'm sure many people would feel that Godspeed is out-of-place at Two Tribes. I'm not speaking for myself, because I quite enjoyed it. I may not have attended if the Godspeed room was not there.

I'm so glad y'all enjoyed his set....I'm biased, having been a fan of him for ages - but great to see him gettin more recognition out here now
the sound in the dog pavillion/godspeed room is never going to be good and loud, cos the glass wall doesn't hold the sound in. I live in newington, and we could hear the sound checks all evening, and not just the bass we normally get, we could make out the tunes. Nice idea, but that hall really isn't suitable.
i don't mind having that room there, it seems to attract the youngsters like ants to the honeypot. That means a generally cheaper ticket price for everyone (or same price better production), and still no kids to get under your feet.
sound in the main rooms only got bad towards the end when they emptied out, and you got the tin drum effects happening.
Apart from the shitty ticket pickup, everything was well improved on last year.
I had a really really fun night!
Lucien absolutely tore it apart (not surprised at all)
that Red Hot Chili Peppers bootleg is so awsome
Fergie really impressed me, funkyfasttechno!
Mauro Picotto - fun tunes and extremely fun to watch
Chrisopher Lawrence - dig his style, just wish the sound was better
Hybrid - nothing special
BT - what a joke
Green Valvet - no thanks
I was pretty disappointed with the production of the astrofunk room. it could have been much better
overall though, i had a blast!
I arrived about 11:30, no queue or pat-search for me since I talked a security guard into letting me through the fence
A bit disappointed I missed the good stuff from the Aussie regulars, but after being let down too many times I think I've got a pretty good excuse
I just wandered around looking for people for a while, checked out all the different rooms and made a quick exit from all except the prog room
Lucien Foort was playing pretty well, pounding funky prog that I can actually stand. Hybrid were on next, they started off pretty well but too much dub type stuff. I took a quick look at Mario Piu as well, that guy is like a moustache-less clone of Saddam Hussein!! He was playing pretty crap stuff though, a lot of electro and some really weird transitions (Staring at the Sun Brothers in Rhythm Mix into some minimalist hardstyle track :conf
. Hung out in the VIP room for awhile, had comfy seats, air-conditioning, two gorgeous blondes and an amazing view of the Godskitchen arena
Went back down into Godskitchen when Fergie started, he was the absolute highlight of the night!! Storming tech-trance, banging tech and amazing skills behind the decks. Was loving the way he'd have one track in a breakdown, then start winding back the cued track faster and faster and faster, fading out the bass until BAM the first track kicked back in! Brilliant. A few tracks he played were Cave - Street Carnival, Tomas vs Filterheadz - Never, and the Max Walder remix of Tiesto - Traffic.
Spoke to him in the VIP room a bit later on as well, what a caner he is
I asked what tracks & labels he was playing, he goes "I've got no idea mate, go have a look through my record box and find out! I just play what I like!" champion!
Had a quick listen to Green Velvet who didn't particularly impress me, and spent the next hour or so switching between Picotto and Chris Lawrence. Both were pretty decent without really impressing me, though Picotto did drop Pulsar and Lizard
Originally supposed to play at 3am, BT finally started about 5:20am, and was a real disappointment. They seemed to be having big issues with the sound, but it didn't really matter since what he was playing was just crap. Really slow pop music style breaks, which isn't what you want to hear at 5:30-6am.
Respect to all the TAs and ITMers who showed (especially Amit), once again good nights are made better by the company
Overall I had a much better night than expected, many thanks to Cam for the ticket! Sound & lighting were an outstanding improvement over previous Two Tribes events, looks like the money they didn't spend on the lineup went into the production which is an interesting approach.
What a top top night.
Definate highlight for me was Lucien he was spot on , flawless mixing and great stage presence. Fergie and Picotto also blew me away.
Wasnt very impressed with Green Velvet, way to chunky and hard for the astofuck arena or BT who really brought the room down with his soft set.
Other than that perfect night, couldnt believe the lack of police presence. Once again great to see and party with everyone.
Well what an awesome night!! BIG BIG BIG Thanks to Alli for letting me hang out with her and Lucien beforehand... Lucien - what a fuckin champion!!!
Got their just before Lucien's set - thought Dan and Crispin were doing a fab job considering the awful fucking sound and all up production in the astrofunk room.... once again the room run by BeatDivision sucks complete ass!! Lucien took to the decks and within 15 mins the room was packed and going nuts! Best set of the night for me without a fucking doubt!!!
After Lucien, Hybrid hit the decks and i was enjoying myself immensely and then things began to get a little weird....
All in all the rest of the nights a pretty big blur - though im sure theres prolly a few lovely gurners of me floating around (wade im looking at you...
).....
All in all it was a class A night!!!!

Finally had the chance to surface properly and it was definitely a nice way to celebrate my b-day.
Night began nicely with the Sweetchilli boys Dan and Crispin playing some awesome prog and when they dropped Infusion - Girls can be so cruel, I knew the night was going to be an absolute blast.
Lucien Foort. All I have to say is WOW! I was truly mesmerised by his funky prog style and mixing. I seriously cannot recall a dj who has such an ability to blend one track into another, with such ease. My equal highlight of the night.
Then Hybrid came to the fore and started off promising however got boring towards the end. During this time I recieved a msg from Joel telling me to get my ass into the GK room for Fergie and Joely I honestly owe u my life for that msg!lol I have never been a fan of really techy stuff but boy was Fergie doing some amazing stuff with all the samples and whatever else he was doing with every track. He had the crowd in a frenzy which was the highlight.
After Fergie, I went back into the Astrofunk room and caught Green Velvet. Was OK at most however his mixing was all over the place and couldn't really hack his sound at times, so went for a walk about (absolute blur).
Christopher lawrence, well I wasn't really impressed at all. Very monotone and didn't really have that pick you up feel. Wasn't pleased.
BT well I can say that I share everyones pain!
So another TT has passed, if any promoters are reading this make sure you get Fergie to some event. He was incredible! Lucien you also rocked. Big ups to all the Ta's, always a pleasure to party with you guys
Oh Man
Does anyone PLEASE know that last track Lucien played?? PLEASE. It was an absolute fkn killer! Best track of the night! One of the few occasions during the night where i took my earplugs out!
IT WAS SWEEEEEEET!
