Bring back some memories? Console underdogs...
Atari Jaguar 64 (with four 16 bit processors i think?)
Atari Lynx (handheld)
NEC TurboGrafx-16 (remember that caveman game Bam or something?)
Nintendo Virtual Boy (kinda tight but too much red
)
Panasonic 3DO (i used to want one, phat shit but Saturn/PS1 killed it)
Phillips CDi (it deserved to die)
Sega CD (admit it, we were all blown away when it first came out)
Sega 32X (umm....)
Sega Nomad (handheld Genesis = the shit!!)
discuss.
Nomad is cool if you have a wall plug near you at all times...but that sorta removes the portable part of it. Other than that, it took an insane amount of batteries to power and they only lasted for like an hour.

Dreamcast - a console that had everything going for it, one of the highest ratio of good games to bad games in the history of game systems, amazing games across every genre, one of the first solid online plans for a console, and some of the most innovative titles (Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio). Unfortunately, it was prematurely killed in fear of the PS2, Cube and Xbox, and never got the chance it deserved.
Saturn - Didn't really do too successful in the States, but if you're a hardcore gamer and you import, this is a must-own system. Radiant Silvergun is the best shooter ever, definitely worth the $150 the game frequently goes for on Ebay... Some excellent RPGs too like Shining Force 3, Grandia, Tengai Makyo 4 (import only), Magic Knight Rayearth. Amazing fighting games, like Xmen vs SF. Other extremely innovative titles like Guardian Heroes, NiGHTS, and Virtual On. Totally overpowered the PSX when it came to delivering crisp, smooth 2D graphics. The 3D setup was extremely awkward and SEGA's US marketing team was crap (not to mention, they left many of the best games ever stateside), but this was the peak of 2D game design and had some amazing music and comfortable controllers, too. A collector's dream system...
Turbo Grafx 16/Duo - Another home to amazing, import only games... Dracula X (Castlevania) - Rondo In Blood is a highly sought-after game... I knew someone who had this - it's the precursor to Symphony of the Night (one of the best games ever made). The CD system took advantage of the format to deliver innovative anime cinemas and fantastic music (Ys Book 1 and 2), but like Saturn, a lot of amazing games never came stateside (like Castlevania - who's bright idea was that
) I will definitely be getting one soon.
Neo Geo - this system was like $649 and games were over $100(the games were huge). had some really cool games (Samurai Showdown,King of the Fighters,Ninja Combat,King of the Monsters) My uncle had this and I was amazed that he put out the money to get this. Definately a hardcore gamer's system.

Mars Matrix, Bangai-O, Ikaruga, Border Down, Cannon Spike, Gunbird 2, Psyvariar 2, and Caslte of Shikigami 2 is comin out in a few weeks!! |
The Dreamcast was amazing. The graphics, games, online and offline multiplayer; it was all there. I have one but only have about 5 games. When I get some money I plan on purchasing a whole crap load of great games.
Bangai-O is such a good game!! It's really hard though, like by the time you get to stage 25 it got waaaay too difficult for me. I guess I'm not hardcore enough
I play the Cube version of Ikaruga, really good game but I still prefer RS... Never got the chance to play Mars Matrix, heard good things about it though.
I love my Dreamcast. Especially since earlier Dreamcast's will play games burned on average CD-R's

i remember the old amiga cd32
For me it all started with the Atari 2600 when I was about 7 years old. A great system, a lot of good memories.
Then it was the good old NES. Tons of memories, what a great system, too many good games to even list.
Next I sold the Nintendo and bought the TG-16. What a great system that was. I remember buying Splatterhouse for 60 bucks before I even owned the system because I was so excited! I still have this system at my place and fire it up from time to time. As old as this system is, it boasted 5 player games which was a lot of fun. Anyone ever played a 5 player game of Dungeon Explorer? Good times!
Along my videogame journey, I did at one time have a Turbo Graphics Express but sold it on Ebay because of too many burnt out pixels. It was a great handheld but got way too hot and took 6 AA batteries which it ate up pretty quickly.
Then I bought a Genesis but only had it for about 6 months because my friend got a SNES at about the same time and I kept seeing how much better games looked. Streets of Rage though was an amazing game to come from the Genesis. So I sold my Genesis and got a SNES.
The SNES was an amazing system. Probably my alltime favorite game would be Castlevania IV. I think that is still the best one ever, even better than Dracula X on the Duo, IMO.
Next I bought a Dreamcast and what a great system it was, and still is. Tons of great games including a lot of 2D shooters which are my favorite type of game (Just take a look at Ikaruga!
). I still play it a lot, mainly for MK Gold, Bust A Move 4, and many of the Street Fighters that only made it to this system.
And finally, I have a Gamecube, mainly for Metroid Prime. That game is reason enough to own the cube.
I do own a PSOne because there were a lot of good PSX games that are worth playing. I also have a Saturn because this system is the king of 2D shooters. I never got a PS2 or an Xbox though. Maybe I'll get on here soon. I think Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox looks like reason enough for me to get one.
