-- Anne Savage @ Cave...
Anne Savage @ Cave...
First off, I want to say that this show was MASSIVELY overcharged. I got my tick for $27, and considering what I heard when I was there...way too much. $12 or $15 would have been a much more reasonable price, sheesh
I've never been to the Plaza of Nations or the Cave, so I wandered around GM Place for like half an hour trying to find it, finally figured it out and got into the club around 11:30...I could tell even before I went in that Azim and Tazix were spinning because while I was waiting in line, I heard Andain - Beautiful Things being played, followed immediately by some cheesy pumpin' hardhouse junk...I swear, those guys need to have some kind of turntable restraining order slapped on them
(more to come).
(On a side note, I picked up a flyer for Twisted '04 while I was there...turns out Azim is coming out with a DJ compilation CD soon, called Twisted. I can't believe he's getting this kind of recognition, considering that his set was full of spectacular trainwreck flambs and the usual array of cheesy crap...Azim, if you ever read this, I think you're an awesome promoter, you definitely know how to throw a party, but I think you need to leave the DJing to other people!)
I was reasonably impressed with the Cave...big place, nice big soundsystem, lights weren't really that good
It felt a bit sketchy at first, but relaxed as the club filled up...crowd was very energetic. I saw lots of dancing in there the likes of which I ain't never seen...the Cave's crowd really gives my psychotic style a run for its money...heh.
Anne came on around midnight, really got the crowd going. I thought the tracks she was playing were a bit cheesy, so I was more standing against the wall nodding my head than dancing (that and my entire side was aching like a bitch, probably because of Viva last night). But she played with energy, the crowd was really feeling it, and her mixing was waaaaaaay better than Azim's, thank god. I didn't dance much cause eventually her style started to feel really, really repetitive...not many breakdowns or much melodic variety...she played a couple of wicked dark trancers but mostly it was pure UK hardhouse.
I left around 2 cause I was starting to feel really sick and exhuasted, and like I said the music was really starting to bore me (I was probably just too tired to really get into it)...I wish I could have stayed longer but I need to sleep this weekend off =P So all in all, it was a pretty good party, not really my music style but still a fun time...if tickets were $10 cheaper I would probably go again (and make sure to arrive after Azim and Tazix get off the decks
)
b'ah.. not impressed

The Cave is sketchy, thank god they're going to renovate that place.
Got there EAARLLY because we didn't want to deal with parking + lineups. Yeah Azim was spinning. He did some flubs here and there, but whatever. The dancefloor started piling up and when Anne came on, everyone was pumped.
As for Anne's music...I have never danced that hard before in my life. I loved almost every second she played. She's a cool gal too, we were introduced to her by a friend and shook her hand and everything, she even signed my friends hat
made his night.
Around 2 or so after a good 2 hours straight of hardcore dancing/flailing I eventually just found a chair by the back corner, sat down and bobbed my head and listened to her for the next 45 minutes, and we left at 2:50ish.
I feel this was money well spent. Perhaps a change of venue, but other than that it was quite the night. Woke up at 8 with the biggest headache (drinks + bass super combo) and a really sore throat from all the hollering I did and off to work fresh as a daisy.
saw anne in calgary on friday, tickets were $15, pretty good show, I would never pay $27 to see her though
i was there.....
seriously, i expected more then that from ann
as for azim... he gets recognition.... hes the only person who gives himself gigs, all of his sets are at twisted associated parties , thats the only reason that man is allowed to buy records
i wanted to go up to the booth and turn off the sound system... maybe then ppl would like his music... geez
anyway i did see her at Subeez so that made up for it

lol i just remembered it took her half an hour to get in the Right Of Way Tour show last night.... Vancouver is full with fuckin annoying homo idiots who dont even know shit from shit.
and another thing LUCE IS NOT A CLUB THEY SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED
Yeah
Anna Saveage and Lisa Lasha were lining up beside me together and I took picture with her
The security said she doesnt have ID , and people said she is the DJ and he just replied "I dont fuking know any DJ, no 2 piece ID no IN "

Yeah, watching her argue with the bouncers was a classic moment in the history of Vancouver clubbing.
i was even embarassed for the bouncer....
