Rock the Vote is proud to present an upcoming nationwide tour with world renowned artist and musician Paul Van Dyk. Rock the Vote President Jehmu Greene announced the tour to more than 50,000 fans at Ultra Fest, the pre-Winter Music Conference festival in Miami. The Ultra Fest also featured the world premier of a new Rock the Vote public service announcement featuring Paul Van Dyk.

Paul Van Dyk, who grew up under East Germany's communist regime, expressed he feelings on the partnership, "I am very excited to be part of the Rock the Vote campaign 2004. Since I grew up behind the Iron Curtain I know what it is like to live without the option to vote. The freedom to make a choice is the basic principle of our democratic world. I hope through my involvement to encourage as many as possible to register to vote in the 2004 presidential election."

Rock the Vote is an MTV sponsored event. PvD is becoming more commercial/mainstream everyday.

After watching that last election, our voting system obviously is screwed up. The people voted for Gore and the electorial vote magically favored Bush. In the end if you really look at it, the people's vote doesn't count.

But this is the music discussion forum, I don't want to turn to turn this thread into a political debate.

I posted this to let everyone know of the dates, and from my point of view, I'm thankful to PVD for doing this. It doesn't matter if it's MTV.

Paul van Dyk was born 16 Dec. 1971. The legal voting in Germany is 18. Paul didn't turn 18 until after the fall of the Berlin Wall (9 Nov. 1989), and a bit before the unification of Germany (3 Oct. 1990). In reality, growing up behind the Iron Curtain had little to do with Paul's voting ability, his age did. This might be a stupid point to pick upon, but it was kind of a dumb thing for him to say.

PvD's site, PvD's agency, and Spundae all say he's in Chicago on the 17th.

PvD's site and his agency say he's in Dallas on the 16th, so I believe the RocktheVote site just has the Dallas and Chicago dates switched by accident.

Spundae will not post a date on its site until a gig is 100% confirmed, so I would say PvD at Vision on April 17th is a done deal.

not really. you can be under the legal voting age and realize that your rights are being trampled on. and like voting had any real purpose in communist east germany. unless paul was psychic and knew the date that the Berlin Wall would fall, how was he supposed to know, growing up, that he could voice his opinion without something terrible happening, much less vote? cruel reality doesnt discriminate against age. kudos to paul for working with rock the vote

Piss off you worthless piece of turd. I'm not saying this cause your bashing pvd; but because your idiotic ways are just ridiculous. On any occasion you get you'll critizice every "mainstream" dj that you can, yet having not even seen ONE dj in person.

Just stfu. It's a pain in the ass when there's lamers like you who have nothing else to do with their time but post crap online. Get a life.

But that's just the thing. His rights weren't getting trampled on. So he can't claim personal experience with it. Even if Germany had been unified 5 years before it was, Paul wouldn't have been able to vote until sometime after late 1989, probably 1990 at the earliest, at best.

Anyways, I'm not criticizing Paul for encouraging young Americans to vote (even if they're realistically 'voting' for one of two people who are effectively the same). I'm just saying that he shouldn't really say that he knows what it's like to have his 'vote' repressed. It's like if China were to repeal it's '1 child limit' law weeks before a Chinese teenager hits puberty, and then this teenager says that he knows what it's like to live under procreation oppression. Well, not really, since he couldn't procreate up to that point anyways.

Obviously this allegory doesn't extend perfectly, because voting ability is not a physical property of humans, but the idea remains the same. Paul's saying he knows what it's like to have his voting ability to be repressed, when if fact his voting ability was the same as the ability of most modern people.

Oh who fucking cares....people are going to be able to go see him DJ and have a great time. That's what we all REALLLY care about when it comes to PvD playing, right?
