9800pro cooling
Im soon gonna buy a ati 128MB 9800pro. Im just wondering how hot it runs stock and should i look into buying aftermarket coolers like the thermaltake giant III? Im planing on overclocking it as well.
I wouldnt plan on overclocking it man. Its a really solid card by itself.
i have a 9800 and i had to buy another fan because during gameplay the game that im playing would slow down. I noticed a major difference simply by purchasing another fan.
my spec
p4 3.06
9800pro
1024 mb ddr
i wnat to get one but i should wait till ati releases new graphic cards...
my specs
P4 2.00 /oc @ 2.1
512 rdram
g4 ti 4600
Got one here stock in a 2 week old Dell 3.2Ghz P4. It runs great, not had a problem yet. The card utils report the GPU temp at around 55 degrees Celcius which is perfectly fine. I think you'll be fine unless you plan on majorly overclocking it.
i've decided to buy this hightech 9800pro. It has a exhaust blower to blow out the hot air out of the case and comes w/ ramsinks. my coworker just picked one up from newegg for $240 and it seems to work really well and the card seems to be based off of the ati's retail verson. Im probably not gonna overclock off of the bat but i would like to play w/ the clockspeeds at times.

(I got the second fastest 3dmark03 score for radeon 8500, probably won't be listed b/c i updated to catylist 4.3 when i ran this test)

The bios flash only works on a very few handful of cards and revisions. Totally Not Worth the risk of killing a $250 card just for a 5% performance increase. Just use radlinker and overclock old school style. |
yeah your right about the 9600pro to xt. I've read a little about it and that seems like a good upgrade. Considering the recent price drops of 9800pros it's totally worth buying instead of a 9600xt.
i got a tt giant2 on my 9700 np it works great. i can oc it to 400/300. the memory on the 9700 sucks. i cant get over 300 with artifacts.
newb question but wat does over clocking mean? and i wanna buy the ati 9800pro....would it run well on a p4 2.4ghz 1g sdram?

thx man....how do u even oc ur chip?
All u have to do really is change settings through software or the bios (or mess about with jumpers sometimes).
For vc ocing read here http://forums.devhardware.com/t15686/s.html
For processor ocing read here http://text.dslreports.com/faq/overclocking
don't overclock if you don't know what your doing, you can easily kill components and or void the warranty.
