Mayday 2004 - Team X-Treme (30.04.2004) - Dortmund Germany

Hi, X-treme Team!

Were about ready to go. Deep down in the catacombs of Westfalenhalle, the global players are preparing themselves. Are your muscles warmed up? All systems activated? Shin pads on? Enough liquids? Now for a last check. Check status of analogue and digital weapon systems. Blink blink. Everything code red. All other data is radio fed from mission control into the players visor display. Now the players are closing their visors. Their shirts read MOM, WB, PVD, CL, etc. They enter the arena; everybody is getting ready to go. The Extreme Dancers have assumed their positions smack in the centre of sound. Fans and supporters, some of which had an awful long way to go, are filling the ranks. And here we also spot the talent scouts of the other clubsTechno Spirit Mexico City, Surreal Athens, UFO Spodek, TC Electrolatino Buenos Aires, Tayfun Berlin, and the team leader of the national team, U 6311. Behind the sound-proof windows of their boxes, hundreds of marathon VIPs and tech biz celebs are watching in suspense. Everybody is holding their breath, anticipating the greatest Techno indoor event on this planet.

!!!...LINE UP ARENA #1...!!!

AGORIA

Travelling the clubs around the globe, Agoria inspires the crowds with a groovy blend of jazz and Detroit Techno. He earned ultimate laurels for his album Blossom'. Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, and DJ Hell - they all like the music of this reserved Frenchman. Mayday will be Agoria's first opportunity to hypnotise the biggest raver indoor crowd of the planet.

ANGELO MIKE

The best Polish DJ. After his glorious home game at legendary Mayday Polska he now enters the realms of Mayday. As Angelo is used to frenetic party crowds he will feel just like home.

CHRIS LIEBING

Chris may lawfully call himself Best National DJ - as this was the title awarded to him at the German Dance Awards 2003. The charismatic guy from Hessen truly earned these laurels; after all, he shaped a whole genre of the somewhat harder style. Despite his daytime job as a label boss and producer workaholic, Liebing with his over 100 releases is still the nice guy from next door.

DAVE CLARKE

This boisterous Brit has been making music since 1989. His talents as a remix artist are highly appreciated by Underworld, Leftfield, Moby, and Depeche Mode. DJ Hell has a special appreciation for his qualities as a drinking buddy. With his recent album Devil's Advocate' Clarke moved on to Norman Cook's label Skint. He's into darkness, deepness and the soul of music.

DERO

Electrolatino galore. Samba as Techno can. Always highly motivated, Latin America's Number One keeps coming back to Mayday and Love Parade on a regular basis. Teutonic Argentine. This unusual combination is what Dero offers around the globe, while carrying his synopsis Revolution 7' in his suitcase.

KAROTTE

Perfect DJ sets are Karottes trademark. Quality craft for over fifteen years. He does likes to be liked by the dance crowd - but theres a limit to compromises. Humour, dispense, character these are the ingredients for a perfect set. Karotte knows how to blend them. The audiences know this, at Stammheim, Aufschwung Ost, u 60311, Space, MoS and the list goes on.

MARC SPOON

What should we expect from this most excessive of all Frankfurt-based artists? What we get fed by The Spoon on the floor has nothing in common with pop, though. It's pure Techno. Only few people represent this genre as intensely as him.

MARCO BAILEY

This Italian from Belgium with the English name is said to be extremely shy. He is the man in the background, pulling all the strings and producing sophisticated as well as funky kickin' tracks for over ten years now. His own labels are named Session and Pornographic. His greatest love is Soulfoul Techno. No two ways about that.

MICHAEL MEYER

To sum it up in two words - Kompakt, Cologne. Kompakt is a label that keeps reinventing itself while always making sure the primeval sludge of Techno keeps bubbling. Michael Mayer does not ride on the waves of others, for he is the Great Innovator. To top this, he is sophisticated, charming and endearing. Could you ask for more?

MICHEL DE HEY

Tech-House is Michel's vocation and he delivers his own special flavour of it. Since 1995, Michel has been one of the powerful local dons at the Rotterdam Nighttown thanks to his club nights. He regularly demonstrates his skills and his talents, also as a welcome guest in other places like Glasgow, Belgrade, Porto, Brussels, Las Palmas, and - last but not least - at Ibiza's Space.

PAUL VAN DYK

Paul goes Pop! Together with Indie rocker Vega 4, he crossed new frontiers with the Time Of Our Lives' single and was promptly awarded the EinsLive Krone award. His album Reflections' shows he's not only a master of straight Techno, but also outside the box'. This is advanced electronic music for advanced people.

TAKKYU ISHINO

This is the mastermind of Japanese electronic dance music. Perfect evidence that Techno is already global. Takkyu Ishino is a popular guest of the reckless rebels at Electric Kingdom; and no Love Parade ever passes without a sighting of this noble son of Nippon behind the Technics. His realm reaches from Detroit via Berlin to Tokyo.

TOMCRAFT

WESTBAM

As the master of all classes and styles he revived Punk while keeping his mind on the Vision of Techno. Disassembling the old and reassembling it with new elements in whole new ways. The Clash meets the raw power of Rave. Once more the Grandmaster of Mayday reinvented electronic dance music in his own subtle ways. For those who understand - its called Electropogo.

LIVE ON STAGE - FIRST FLOOR - THIS YEAR

ALEX KOWALSKI

He knows Techno since the early Nineties - and Techno knows him. Meanwhile he settled in the Berlin borough of Friedrichshain. This is where all the progressive and smart productions are created, earning acclaim of critics, colleagues and the crowds. Alexander's last masterpiece is titled response'. It was released by that savvy label called kanzleramt.

ELEKTROCHEMIE

Starting off as a studio project of Thomas Schumacher's, ELK evolved into a real live act. What started in 1999 with club hits like Schall' has reached a new level in 2004. Working closely with his ingenious partner, Caitlin Devlin, Schumacher has electronic dance music with yet another facet. The masterpiece is titled Come Right On Time'. And now you can experience it live. It's about to happen!

LEXY & K-PAUL

The dandies from the nation's capital. These guys are simply irresistible. Their second album East End Boys' is a never-ending source of glittering TechnoLectroPop jewels. This is pure Berlin style. They say only girls fall for them. Not quite so. Even rebels need melodies once in a while. Love me, babe!

MEMBERS OF MAYDAY

This is the Team X-treme. The Manifest of the Night. The Members are back. The concept of rave is bubbling with new life. DJs and producers step out from behind the scenes. For a few moments, the dancers merge - as something larger than life. There's no way to preserve this; you just have to be there.

NENA

V.S

TOK TOK

She used to be old school. Now she enjoys popping up in places where you just wouldn't expect her. Nena never liked the beaten track. While 99 Red Balloons' were cool, this new generation of electronic artists is a challenge she accepts. Get ready for Nena vs. Tok Tok. The icon of German pop meets the innovators. Nena got it all - Tok Tok want it all. This is explosive. Hold your breath.

ZOMBIE NATION

There is this sinister aura surrounding him. Call him Splank! Or call him John Starlight. As Zombie Nation' he unfolds superhuman powers. The colour that probably represents his essence best is a bloody red. On his machines, he creates monolithic and bewildering sounds. And his performance makes your nightmares come true.

!!!...LINE UP ARENA #2...!!!

DISCO BOYS

Back to the Old School - in a modern style! With their state-of-the-art House these guys from Hamburg know how to breathe new life into the seemingly dead body of Disco. The party crowd responds to their surgical intervention with sheer ecstasy. Check it out on their current mix The Disco Boys Volume 3 - and check it out at Mayday!

DJ PI

Mayday welcomes the newcomers from Saarbrücken. Their rep as residents at KuFa has already spread beyond the city limits. This is reliable Electro Techno. On a side note, this vibrant duo also co-produced the C.O.P. Project.

DJ TAUCHER

Be it as a DJ, a remix or recording artist - Taucher has that special grip on the crowds. He is a raver and he remains a raver. Thats what he stands for. And just as well he stands for a regular craze. One thing Taucher hates is musical stagnation. To ensure the masses keep holding their breath, Big T launches his productions under a variety of pseudonyms.

FERRY CORSTEN

Together with Tiesto, this is probably one of the most important protagonists of Trance among our Dutch neighbours. Thanks to projects like System F and Gouryella there is a potential for the charts - but Ferry doesnt care much. He cares so much more about pumping the crowds to the max - all over Europe. Consequence is no coincidence.

LOCO DICE

The recording artist-superstar from the Rhine metropolis. His releases are titled Phat Dope Shit and Dynamite Love. Resident of Tribehouse (Neuss) and Circoloco DC 10 (Ibiza). Together with Timo Maas, he travelled Latin America and offered his inspiring Sweet & Sexy house music selection to the masses.

MIKE LITT

The recording artist-superstar from the Rhine metropolis. His releases are titled Phat Dope Shit and Dynamite Love. Resident of Tribehouse (Neuss) and Circoloco DC 10 (Ibiza). Together with Timo Maas, he travelled Latin America and offered his inspiring Sweet & Sexy house music selection to the masses.

MOGUAI

Popularity without sell-out. With his Punx releases Moguai proved that this is indeed possible in Techno Germany. Its just a matter of time when his Electro Rock crossover will make it on an international scale. The Sugababes already knocked on his door and asked for his producer skills. Sweet.

SENAD

Mayday welcomes the newcomers from Saarbrücken. Their rep as residents at KuFa has already spread beyond the city limits. This is reliable Electro Techno. On a side note, this vibrant duo also co-produced the C.O.P. Project.

TILLMANN UHRMACHER

Forever and a day, Frankfurt has been the metropolis of Techno. One of those who have been there from scratch is Tillmann Uhrmacher. He always convinced with quality and knowledge and never cared for musical boundaries. On his map, Harold Faltermayer is located just next to Tomcraft. He visits Mayday not for the first time. After all, there are sound reasons we keep our standards.

TIMO MAAS

For a while now Timo has been more successful overseas than in his native Bückeburg, Lower Saxony. Hes a world traveller, part of the DJ jet set. His current DVD Music For The Masses 2 shows that electronic music is enjoyed by people all over the planet in Singapur, Miami, Kuala Lumpur Their love for Timo makes them one of a kind.

TOM NOVY

The Munich-based charming big-mouth graces us with his presence again. Last year he laid down the battle-lines with Without Your Love and an impressive video. And he keeps going where the pain is - whatever is needed for the greater good. Pumping his sophisticated funky beats against the casting craze. Wheres Novy, theres excessive party.

!!!...LINE UP ARENA #3...!!!

GUNJAH

For ten years now, this good-looking party-proven twen has been leaving his technoid traces just about everywhere. At first in the greater Dresden area, the crowds of Berlin and Moscow, Prague and San Francisco also came to know and appreciate his preference for electronic dance music, with no holds barred. The Erfurt-based quality label 1st Decade Records is glad there is a Gunjah, for he is the man behind Neo Pop. His Funkwelt EP is already a classic.

HARDY HARD

Two places where Hardy Hard is always right on the money are the studio and the decks. For over ten years now. Youd never tell. Hardys sound, too, just keeps evolving. Where is it headed? The rough direction is grooves and kicks. Berlin Elektro style makes for the fine tuning. And on top, that uncanny feel for the ultimate sound of Now. A current example: TelLie Vision.

JEFF MILLS

The Elder Statesman of the Movement. One of the founding fathers of Techno. At first, he was a lonely and far-sighted pioneer. But his combatants from all over the world were to join him soon. While Techno has come of age - just like its protagonists - Mills has kept the spirit and is back with Exhibitionist, a DJ mix of the finest kind. Best heard at Mayday.

KID ALEX

A credible supplier of hits, Kid Alex demonstrated his unfailing intuition last summer. Young Love (Topless) played big time, and it was all over the place. But what about this Hamburg-based artist playing the decks? In his native Hamburg, Kid Alex became one of the DJs with the highest number of bookings. He keeps going for the max - and he keeps topping every previous climax.

LEON SEGA

Athens is more than just the cradle of great philosophers. There is a flourishing Techno scene in the vicinity of the Akropolis. Leon Sega joins us as its ambassador. And not for the first time. His visits at Love Parade in Berlin left a lasting impression and evoked encores of Leons Tek House. Taking his duties seriously, the Ambassador will gladly oblige.

RÖYKSOPP

These lovely producer nerds released a record that flashed just about everybody. Suddenly they were there. Out of the deep cold blue. From arctic Norway. Straight into our hearts. Melody A.M. is an electronic music album that even rock lovers listen to, provided nobody is watching. For Mayday, Torbjörn and Svein prepared an inspired blend of DJ set and live act.

SUPERPITCHER

In Minimal Techno, Superpitcher boldly went where no man had gone before. A virtuoso of reduction. His home label is Kompakt; already at Mayday 2003 he inspired the crowd on the Kompakt floor. Now he is going for heartbreak with his Yesterday twelve-incher. Hes a reckless romantic of sorts.

LIVE ON STAGE - 3th FLOOR - THIS YEAR

NORTHERN LITE

It was an extended pregnancy, but now the baby is there - Northern Lite's first album, titled Reach The Sun'. Boon and Andreas always considered themselves a band. They work just as hard for their fine Elektro releases on their own 1st Decade label as they do as convincing live performances. This year, they will reach for another level of intense performance. The star is the band.
