Arrow Universiteeeeeeeeee

Does anyone here go to or used to go to, any of the following institutions of learning

York,
Sussex,
Birmingham?

harry is at bham ..

I am at Birmingham. It is good.
I considered York. It is also good.
I considered Sussex. It is good for Arts subjects, but ugly.

Posted by Spin Doctor on Mar-19-2004 21:50:

Brum is the number one Uni for my subject, but the halls are tres expensive! I havent visited there yet.

I wasnt all that impressed with York to be honest, though they score higher than Sussex on the leage table for Sociology. The good rooms looked nice (and were the same price as the cheapest rooms at Brum!), but the pauper rooms looked absolutely terrible. Plus, though York is a nice city, there doesnt seem to be much exciting to do there.

Sussex Im visiting next weekend so Ill be in a better position to compare.

the halls at brum aren't expensive!!!!

TENNIS COURTS!!! 55 a week, self catering, bills included, 10 mins walk into uni. I really wouldnt recommend the in-inclusive meals halls. If you have to have them- then MASON HALL is the only choice. If you are loaded then JARATT HALL is the closest to uni, but very expensive.

55 is cheap! the Halls at my Uni (Northumbria) are at least 70p/w now....

Posted by slinkyhead on Mar-20-2004 11:25:

my halls were 98 a week

Posted by Ste on Mar-20-2004 14:17:

go to birmingham.

you got the added bonus of infinate nightlife choices and mint shopping places without the daylight robbery + polution of london

Posted by Spin Doctor on Mar-21-2004 02:59:

In the pamphlet they sent me about halls, the cheapest was 65 and you had to share a room!

I best check again.

All for 0.......

better make the most of living with my parents until September

Posted by dukes on Mar-21-2004 18:17:

my board is in excess of 200.....but thats my student morgage
on the property lader at the age of 18!!

Posted by Ste on Mar-22-2004 09:43:

'Halls' means that you get your meals too. Do you want that?
Birmingham call their other accomodation 'self-catered flats'. As far as I know, noone has to share a room at Birmingham unless they are a couple and they want to.

THIS is my flat in halls-

By halls I really mean anything that they could make you live in for the first year when you have to. Your room looks pretty good! I must have been getting the complete wrong end of the stick from the bumpf they sent me with my offer.

I'm visiting Sussex this weekend, and Brum next week. I'll post my findings!

I visited Brum today, I must admit I was impressed! After the visit I thought Id decided, though unfortunately after more though I cant decide. Its between Birmingham and Sussex now. Oh and tennis courts are 70 odd pounds in my leaflet!

Posted by Frase on Mar-31-2004 04:14:

I'm jus down the road in Coventry, and its a right shitehole, thank god brum is jus down the road!

I am currently at York. What info do you need?

Posted by *HaRRy* on Mar-31-2004 17:11:

I'd definately go to Birmingham. It has a better academic record and is generally well good.

Think about the cost of halls in this way-
Sussex (Brighton) is in the south and is VERY expensive to get a house in your 2nd and 3rd year (think of about 65 a week).
However, the houses in Brum are 45-55 so you'll save a lot then.

Posted by Spin Doctor on Mar-31-2004 18:22:

mike_stefan69, thanks but York is out of the running now. Thanks all the same.

Good point, about housing costs. Also the Sociology Department is much smaller at Birmingham too, only 40 places, so more contact time with the teachers. Though the elective modules in the Sussex course seem more interesting - ach! It's a big decision. Ill be making my final choice on Monday.

Now that is a typical woman's room.

When you go to uni, it's compulsory to have as many flyers, posters and photos on your wall as possible. In fact, we have a whole gallery in our lounge. Ahh, the memories...

He's right my room is plastered, covers up the dull white...

Anyway, I live in self catered halls and it's great, I'm with 6 other lads who are all really good company...
