Big Ears Please rate my newest track

progressive trance with a tribal edge

Bermuda Tribe - Serengeti (Original mix)

a big improvement from my last one i think

i know its nto much of a review,
but i really liked the track.

i tend not to pick at tracks that
people post. and say, well your snare
was too quiet, etc etc.

but i know what i like and what i dont
like, and i liked your track

Hey Adam

now i must say this is brilliant!! very nicely constructed and i love the dark kinda feel to it.

Your are improving a hell lot since your lagoona track.

Now my only complaint is that the synth that starts around 1:38 just goes on for too long, very repetive. Maybe you could add more effects just to make it sound different and keep the audience going.

Now i don't think the song had enough detail IMO. I loved the ending part of the song the most IMO, cause it had more detail. The small breakdown had mood and actually constructed a nice beautiful effect.

your production skills are top notch, just add more stuff and this is definite signed material.

Re: Please rate my newest track

holy shitballs

like the soupsmeister, i aint no musical scholar like peter andre or anything but i know what i like... this tune - i like... a lot. im always a sucker for a nice funky tribal beat and this is pulled off very nicely, melodies and stuff (yeh thats right, stuff) were also top notch.

k i better stop or else it may seem like im trying to suck your co...

it's a nice tune ok.

Wow, good stuff!

If I have one criticism it's that you might want to consider condensing the first four minutes into one or two becuase it does kinda drag on a bit, but everything after that is gold. With a bit of cleaning up, you have a pretty good chance of flogging this to a label imho.

Posted by jc on Mar-24-2004 11:28:

thanks for the replies guys

psy: good point! i know what you mean, it does drag on a bit. I dont wanna change too much though, but ill play around with some more effects n shit

Posted by OLi_A on Mar-24-2004 12:44:

i have as much right to comment on music than the rabbitohs have on claiming the premiership so if i say its pretty fuckin choice does it mean anything? keep it up adam

Posted by Sid on Mar-24-2004 12:53:

move over Sasha, here comes Adam Jace

A massive improvement on lagoona! tribal beats and melodies sit perfectly, but what impressed me the most was the mastering! I must say that this is definitely signature material! well done my friend

lol sid
i dont think so

Posted by jc on Mar-24-2004 13:56:

ok, did a few changes, re-arranges and shortened some parts
I also added some distortion to the first synth making it a bit fatter sounding

Posted by djway on Mar-24-2004 14:20:

Hey, HUGE improvement! Can tell you've been working hard to get this one sounding as killer as it is.

The highs sounds a bit muddy still IMO

The backwards melody bit (the bit psy was on about) goes on too long for what it does.

Love the track progression, love the sounds used, love the sound introduction, all good stuff.

Perhaps another little twist somewhere[last phrase b4 a breakdown?] on the bassline (IE instead of hte same pattern, 1 time go a note higher or lower.

Jace, What's next(by that I mean congradulations )

nice.

Posted by ONION on Mar-24-2004 15:41:

Nice tune,

Like:

- sounds used
- effects uses (delays, reverbs)
- transition into break
- Percussion
- Some nice melodies

Needs work:

- weak kick (maybe thats what you want)
- track structure
- play around with that riff that comes in at 1:40... whack a filter of your choice on it... and automate the cutoff. Because that riff was getting really repetitive and boring by 3:00... fuck around with it.

good work mate

Posted by Slade on Mar-24-2004 15:42:

This is tight.

My recommendations: Lose that melody loop thing that comes in at 1:40. Cut it completely, or do some max James Holden style compression. It sounds really bad. Leave the breakdowns as is, they rule.

Worq the bass. Make it a little more noticable, and you'll have a hella funkai tune.

Nice.

Posted by JayKuE on Mar-24-2004 23:13:

this is fan fuckin tastic.
bassline is there but not quite?
but i like it like that.
love the atmosphere of the pads + progressions.
workin the music theory?
love the little reverse hats

only qualm is melodies. flat.
i think you can expand on them while remaining subtle.
hell, throw a few more in the background.

just suggestions. but love the work.

edit: what's with the names? lagoona, serengeti?

Posted by jc on Mar-25-2004 05:14:

wow thanks guys.

yeh im gonna sit down now and work on something to fit that first melody to make it more interesting.

wade, ur right the highs are a little muddy, will fix that.

regarding the bass, yeh its extremely low in frequency, but i think it goes nicely.. sorta reminds me of Lemon 8 - 'NY NY' (not that it can compare or anything )

jaykue: dunno why lagoona, just thought of it and sounded okay. serengeti - huge wildlife park in africa, i think it suites the track hehe (gilmista actually thought of this one!)

Posted by venomdx on Mar-25-2004 05:39:

I like it a lot.

Posted by PVDsANGEL on Mar-25-2004 05:50:

Well done Jace.

Not heard any of your other tracks but this one is great. Not really my style to be honest but like it a lot

i like the theme.
reminds me of ferry's tagalog [fillipino] track titles.
just thought they may have held some significance to urself.

if ur still doing all this in floops,
i really don't think u'll need to be changin sequencer

Posted by jc on Mar-25-2004 08:51:

okay, ive uploaded the final version now

this should do it

Wouldn't it be something more like if you're doing all this in FL, imagine what you can get out of a more professional sequencer?

but man. that means time out to relearn a new program's interface
i ain't a pro but slap me ears silly if jace's "serengeti" doesnt sound quite the pro production already.

serengeti does a little i guess coz im originally from sth africa
haha

yeh.. i dont really use fruity that much, just for melodies (using imported synth samples)

i do all my sequencing in acid pro and use a shitload of samples

moving onto reason soon though..

Yeah I see what you mean And I assume you see what I mean.

And yes it does sound pretty damn pro

Jace: If you don't want people using your track, I'd suggest dropping the quality 2 128kb/s. (or are we meant 2 burn it 2 CDR )
