TA party in calgary

Would it work.
I mean, I know a few of you guys are DJs, do you think we could get enough people together to warrant having one in a club?
or would it be better if we threw a TA house party?

or does nobody care at all?

It think it would work in a club if it was promoted by people like Dom, but just as a TA solo thing I dont see lots of people showing up.

say we managed to get the Underground one friday night (basement of the warehouse), cover would be cheap, drinks are cheap as well. And we might be able to have downstairs access only (ie, you pay less and cant go upstairs) with a stamp or something like that. But people from upstairs could come chill to trance in the basement.

They have the pretty good sound down there, lots of room to dance, lots of seating, but the bathrooms are a hole down there.

I think it would work in conjuction with the Saturday night trance shows that Drunken Monkey put on at Sambuca Lounge...they are soliciting for DJs and a night could be set up there. I temper this suggestion with the fact that I've never been to Sambuca Lounge or been to a Drunken Monkey event.

Sambuca is a hole.

I'd be down for a Calgary TA meet.
If somebody wanted to throw a lil party than I could gather a couple of friends to come also...
possibly me and 2-3 other friends could help out by spinning for a little bit...
We'd even spin for free, we just want to spin for a crowd and have a good time.
If not than I'd still be down to hang out and chill somewhere... Warehouse or wherever it may be.

im sure you guys have heard of www.fnk.ca, the rave site for vancouver.

fnk has meets at raves all the time, and there are tons of parties, big and small, thrown by its members. start something like that for calgary. TA is more of a worldwide thing. create something thats local and thats good so that all the ravers in calgary join. id say 60-70% of vancouvers ravers at least have an fnk account. go to it calgarians.

Sounds like a good idea... only problem I can see is turn out for a club, but like Vanilla said, if someone could promote it well it could have an excellent turn out. House party would kick ass as well.

He wasnt talking about a meet guys, we have those all the time. I think he was refering to us actually throwing a party.

what Im thinking is that some night in June, a residents night @ the Warehouse on a friday. Is that we get the basement. We get the street entrance. TA djs play.
If you want you can pay the lower cover and stay downstairs, or pay the normal cover and be allowed to go upstairs. People from upstairs would be allowed downstairs.
The bar would be open
the problem were getting to, is that we now need an extra doorgirl, 2 extra bouncer(one for patdowns, one for the stairway door) and an extra bartender.

I was going to approach Chris with this when I get home next week, and then hope that we could get 2 lines on a flyer that they would print off anyways. But I wanted to see if there is interest in attending and playing.
I dont think we would be able to pay any of the DJs, because I would hope to use the venue for free, and door profits/bar profits just go to the Warehouse anyways.
It depends on how many people we get out. I mean if we do it and 20 people come, I dont see how the wages for those 4 employees can be paid + some to the DJ.

Or maybe(and ill ask Chris about this too) we do it one day when theres an event upstairs. Having the 2nd door open will speed the lines up, keep people happy and make the 4 employees worthwhile. and we would still have the basement. We would have to come up with a system, but Im gonna try to meet with chris on it.
Its not to be a TA exclusive party (unless its a house party)

And one definite plus that the underground has over Sambuca, is afterhours. We can keep going as long as we like (well 7 AM) or until there is nobody left.

I guarantee I can get some people to come up from Edmonton. I'd love to play. I can't remember if you've seen me play or not, but I've done a tone of parties here in Edmonton. Even thrown a couple. IE. The Bushwhacked series and headlined that between Paladin and Mike Downey.

I'd definitly be happy to spin for free if given the opportunity.
I wouldnt care, I just want to spin for a TRANCE crowd and have some fuuuuuuuuuuun! Plus it'll be great exposure.
Let me know if things work out for you, possibly I could help with the event in other ways. Just let me know.
If not then I'd still definitly be down for this sort of event, I'd be willing to go for sure.

well there are only 37 TA's registered in Calgary, so it would be tough to pull off, but if there was one I would be there for sure.

Hmmmmm interesting... I would be up for spinning for sure.. and so would Prodigy Child I'm sure.. it would be interesting to see if this idea pans out..

i would go check it out, i need to meet some people now that i live here, but i am unsure as to how big the turnout would be, i'm a bit pesimistic about it... but it would be cool if it did work out!

I know there arent that many of us, thats why I think making it the 2nd room of the club makes more sense than the main room. That way there will be us, plus whoever from the other room would rather be listening to trance than techno or house.

i am moving to red deer in a month which is only an hour away from calgary. id be down to support the local Calgary TA scene!

yeah i'd be down, and i could bring minimum 5 guys with me, so i don't think numbers are a problem.

venue is the tough part.

let's get a generator and go party outside the city limits :P
