Huh?

uhh yyeeeeaaa, I'm a simpleton.

Posted by arctic on Mar-31-2004 02:48:

Haha!

That's exactly how I reacted. My god, I'm a nerdinat0r.

Q5echo: Google just changed it's buttons up the top (you know, 'image', 'web' and so on) so that they're just text, as opposed to graphic buttons. For a google addict like me, it's damn off-putting.

okay I see. very subtle.

I feel so special now. It's not one of those special changes they do for holidays, rather a subtle little change that I have yet to explore...

Think about how many hits they get per day. Converting the image tags in the HTML code to text links probably saves them a fortune in bandwidth costs.

But they're changing something. Google never changes.

Seriously though, agreed. The thing is, once you get used to something, any kind of change is originally a shock. People will be groaning and arguing about this for awhile, but eventually they'll get used to it and the objections will subside.

Ugh, that's awful. Do a search for "trance addict" and every result bar one returned (only 26 matches for trance addict?) is to about.com (the other one was to some car website). That's taking corporate whoring to a new level. And people accuse google searches being biased towards commercial interests? I am doing something wrong?

Posted by tathi on Mar-31-2004 11:01:

haha

google filed a lawsuit against lookle a few years back

Since I installed the Googlebar for Mozilla, Ive never had to type in the URL, thus I've not seen the changes they made to the front screen!

Hey, don't forget to sign up for Google e-mail now by requesting they send you an e-mail to your existing address when they are ready to go live in about a month. Best to get in on the ground floor. Heard as a rumor, the invitees (like you asking for an e-mail address) will get a gig of space as initial users. I'll take anything more than I got for free now on Yahoo. Can't lose either way...

Lol!

(Mountain View, California-AP) -- You know about E-mail, but are you ready for G-mail?

Online search provider Google is introducing a free E-mail service as it raises the stakes in its battle against Yahoo! and Microsoft.

The company is promising to provide up to 500 times more storage space for users than the market-leading e-mail services provided by Yahoo! and Microsoft Hotmail.

Hoping to make money from the service, dubbed "G-mail," Google has told its computers to mine the topics in the E-mails and then deliver text-based ads related to those subjects.

For instance, an E-mail from one friend to another discussing an upcoming concert might prompt Google to include an advertising link from a ticketing agency.

For now, Mountain View, California-based Google is only opening up the service to invited users but expects to make it accessible to everyone within a few weeks. People interested in signing up for an account are being encouraged to register at www.gmail.com.

I think the change to the name Gif is a little more disturbing..they added some shading that made me look at it again.

I use safari as my default browser and it has a google search field in it so I rarely look at anything but results unless I am searching for images..then it is search and hit images on results page.

I will admit I wigged out roally when AltaVista changed their whole layout in like 1998. I had been a power user on that site then they made it all wacked out and un-useful so I switched to yahoo.

Now I do google just because it is easier due to said search bar.
