Question Question on song titles

I'm still relatively new to trance, and I come upon the words like "ft" "feat" "vs" and "with" alot in electronic music. I was wondering what they mean.

For ex: DJ Tiesto ft. Ferry Corsten - Dreamtime

simply means "featuring". so if you have DJ Tiesto ft. Ferry Corsten - Dreamtime, it just means that Ferry corsten worked on the production with Tiesto.

ft, feat, with = collaborations
vs = collaboration or a mashup bootleg

mashup bootleg? ?? ?

I'm guessing it's neither a collaboration nor a remix

Not a dumb question, just one that's been covered numerous times already.

It is sort of a remix. Usually it is 2 tracks interwoven to make a new one. An example would be "BT vs Sasha - Remember Magnetic North". The person/s that made it used BT - Remember, Sasha - Magnetic North and "mashed" them together.

Bootleg I think is a track that uses samples from another tune, or is a tune remixed without the original producers permission.

I used to think it meant so-and-so DJ hated so-and-so DJ and the track was like a battle between the two of them... little did I know... I guess that's what I get for reading too much "Spy vs. Spy"... yipes!

sure is one dumb question

hhahaahahhahahahahaa i would love to see a spy vs spy strip with turntables and scratching and stuff. hehe i can only imagine

what about presents? like, "dreas presents havannah - havannah"

Posted by trancintaiwan on Mar-31-2004 16:17:

usually i noticed when presents is used... its either introducing a new alias for the artist or the producer is featuring a new and relatively unknown artist

Yup, dumb question.

No, this isn't the rap scene.

actually, the technical title of the song you are mentioning is DJ Tiesto & Ferry Corsten present Vimana - Dreamtime, which is the b-side to We Came.
"Present" is used when one or more artists are introducting a new alias of theirs, and usually gets dropped after the new alias is better known. ie: Agnelli & Nelson pres. Ultra or Agnelli & Nelson pres. Green Atlas.
The exception to this is Markus Schulz pres. Elevation - Clear Blue, in which case Markus Schulz, a well-established artist, is presenting Elevation, a newcomer. This caused a lot of confusion a while back...
