I don't use Kazaa, but I suspect that I've gotten this virus, since a few days ago a few of my mp3 files suddenly lost their tags and then returned. I've not seen any data loss as of yet (all my mp3s are on a different hard disk than my system files), but how do I remove the virus itself?

edit: Fack, it's april 1st today. It's probably too late

Posted by nchs09 on Apr-01-2004 08:25:

wow im preatty computer illiterate.. is there a way to protect myself besides not downloading??

Posted by everything0 on Apr-01-2004 08:26:

can't find anything on it on symantec or antivirus...

could swamper be april fooling us?

Posted by Boomer187 on Apr-01-2004 08:27:

OMG, I was just watching 24, its the cordella virus......

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Posted by Swamper on Apr-01-2004 08:29:

this is brutal.. if it spreads a ton of mixes will get corrupt and those will spread around and there will be bad versions of stuff for years going around.

Hey wait a minute...why are there no removal instructions on that link Swampy posted? Why does a Norton and a Google search yield nothing? And why is that virus alert hosted on tranceaddict.com? And hrhr.com, omghi2u.com, don'tsendtheletter.com? I smell April Fools. Either that or some TA lurker made this virus.

Regardless, had me going for a while there

Posted by nchs09 on Apr-01-2004 08:31:

ok i was scared ... april fools jke i got hte feeling ..i think sawmper is drunk

So far we believe that to be the case, although with over 30,000 members this virus will spread rather quickly.

Posted by Swamper on Apr-01-2004 08:35:

It's not fake! It hasn't spread around to search engines because it is on internal security mailing list(s)/site(s) and I was notified because my site and others are mentioned in the code - they haven't announced it on any sites because they want to limit its spread/variants - since they don't have a reliable fix yet - it is mutating after modifying certain Windows XP DLLs...

Only reason I posted it is because mine and some other sites are listed to get a DDos attack later today and I dunno what to expect

He's not lying, not many of you may know this but Swampy and I are real close and he just sent me a copy of the posting after I PM'ed him demanding proof or STFU.

Hmmm ok, better to be safe I guess.

Is it possible to dodge the 1st of the month-damage by removing the worm in DOS?
