Car CD Player with MP3 encoding or ipod

i'm buying a new car with an option to add a CD player with MP3 encoding.

CD-Player with MP3 encoding approx $350 installed
20GB ipod w/ FM transmitter and charger approx $340

suggestions?

well the only disadvantage with the ipod is that it doesnt look as good just sitting around in your car.

..but you can take it around with you, and holds more songs

are you attaching the ipod to your car or just earphones?

i'd have to purchase the car charger and FM transmitter. and yeah, of course i'll be using it also outside of the car

The FM transmiter is crap. I have an iPod and i ude it with the cassette, and its great. i take my 20gb of music everywhere. the only problem is that some cars dont have a cassette player.

gotta agree. A friend has this and the sound is not great in his car. He also gets some weird sound in his subwoofer. minor though. I'd go w/ the mp3 encoding

i'd go with the car cd player, cuz i'd get alot more use out of just using it in the car than walking around with an ipod

plus the car cd player would be cd quality, not fm quality.

thanks everyone. I bought the CD-player with mp3 encoding a few weeks ago. glad with my purchase. i didn't want to have to deal with charging the ipod, poor sound quality, and finding space to dock the ipod.
