song popularity

alright here is the cycle that all the new songs now a days go through

1)really good song everyone loves it and thinks its so amazing

2)djs start to spin it on their sets and people enjoy it a lot

3)people buy the record becuz it is released and listen to it a lot

4)year later people HATE it and think it is the worst track, they think whoever likes it has no taste and that it is a lame ass song

examples: Agnelli & Nelson - Holding on to Nothing
PVD - Time of our lives
Tiesto - traffic
satilite (markus shulz remix)

they are played a lot..but they are good songs and just because everyone likes them doesnt mean you have to be a rebel and try to have a "unique" taste in trance

I still like Satellite. I think the reason for number 4 is that they eventually realize how stupid the song was in the first place.

Let's see. I still like Traffic & Satellite (MS RMX). I don't hate the other tracks, or think they are the worst. If someone likes them I couldn't care less. Just because they're lame to me doesn't mean they're lame to someone else. What I listen to has nothing to do with other people. Check and mate.

I guess its because Armin isnt spinning them any more

Never heard Time Of Our Lives, but I still like Holding Onto Nothing, and Traffic + Satellite were never all that great to begin with...

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Apr-04-2004 18:07:

Holding Onto Nothing is a bit crap, and I've only ever heard it twice.

my take on these four

a&n - HOTN, still like it
PVD - its alright, but i think its a let down after nothing but you
Tiesto - only just got into this track, so i still like it
satellite - didn't like it from the start, lyrics are just too djsammy like for me

It never occurred to you some people just genuinely don't like them?

im just basing this on the total forum...

Posted by mndeg on Apr-05-2004 03:17:

examples: Agnelli & Nelson - Holding on to Nothing -ok song
PVD - Time of our lives - ok poppish song
Tiesto - traffic good live song
satilite (markus shulz remix) good song
and its satellite

i pretty much agree with this.

this is a common theme i've seen on these boards. there are the people who listen to EDM because they like it, and then there are the people who listen because it is underground. it's the latter that aren't really worth our attention.

i think all those songs are great.

How many people have told you that they listen to music because it's not popular?

Posted by Nautilus on Apr-05-2004 07:02:

I still like all four.

Eiffel 65 - Blue and Darude - Sandstorm are probably better examples.

Posted by webmeister on Apr-05-2004 07:29:

As the Rush Comes is a good example.

I loved that track to death when it first appeared 12 months ago, but by now I'm so f**king sick to death of hearing it I need to break something when I hear it

how many people have told you they have tried on their girlfriends underwear??

its something you can clearly see on the forums, people liking songs because they are rare. "oo my taste is too good for yours"

same with like alcohol or drugs
"oo this is too strong for u, but i luv it cuz im a man"

Dont forget:
As the Rush Comes
Beautiful Things
NU-NRG
Gabriel & Dresden

Some people do not generally like the stuff, but most just do this because they are either burnt out on it, or have to say it is not underground enough anymore and they are so they do not like it. Others jump on the bandwagon from really likeing someone to bashing them (i.e. G&D) just because it is the thing to do.

Oh well to each his own. I will be over [here ] listening to whatever it is I like at the moment.

flame away, but you know it is true. look at the forums.
