Cool Ill give credit to the canuks on this one

A canadian parliment member wants to add the caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos as a new provence so that the canadians will have their own place to escape to during the winter:

Hey, we'll give them Haiti for free!

Lol!

We rule ...No more having to deal with annoying Floridians in Daytona beach

But seriously, as long as they make a referendum in both canada and the islands to let their populations vote on the issue, then the concept of annexation would not be valid anymore. I would definitely vote for it!

that would be awesome

Why? from what i've read about it its really poor, so the transfer payments for it would cost a whole lot of taxes.

Besides, you can still go there if you're Canadian, just need a visa.

no point

Ahhhh...but it is you who misses the point...Yes it would cost transfer in taxes, BUT, since it's a very popular tourist destination, not only would we reap the benefits from people going there (thus feeding our economy), but also, Canadians who spend their dollars in Florida vacationing would spend their money in Canada (if indeed it were to become a province), thus further fueling our economy...thus, in order to make your point, you would have to show that the transfer of taxes would somehow cost more (in dollar amounts) than the above benefits (which I don't think it would be, considering they only have 19 000 inhabitants)...
Furthermore, and MOST importantly, we instantly shed our image of a cold country and eskimo-like population and have somewhere HOT where we can call home (it's all about the psychological benefits!!! )

Some good points there, but it's not a really popular destination in the Carrebean as I undestand it, plus airfare there would cost the same anyway.

And how would you deal with refugees from the rest of the Carrebean?

But it would definitely become one if it became Canadian (i.e. we'd spend the necessary resources on it to make it such)

The airfare would be on Air Canada, which would be great for the company, as opposed to Delta or American, or US airways which is what most canadians use to get to florida, so that does in fact help...

As for the refugees from the REST of the carribean, the methods used to deal with them would be exactly the same as the methods used to deal with the current influx of refugees attempting to get into mainland canada (whatever those methods are...)

Have come to the conclusion, from the limited dialogue we've had, that your an elitist.
That is okay with me, but be warned. I will call you out on it every time

First of all, no.. you won't shed your image because you take over some tiny little third-world country and call it your own. The only people that will think "gee, I bet it's balmy in Canada right now" aren't the type of people that you'd really care about convincing in the first place.

Secondly, what the hell are a bunch of hockey playing, whale blubber sucking eskimos going to do on a sandy beach anyway? :biglaugh:
