Arrow is tiscali broadband any good?

i need some serious advice on this one as i just signed up to it...

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/b...d/3xfaster.html

free modem and setup and only 15.99/month after that...something just doesnt add up...

me and my mum had a massive arguement abt how im being conned and shit by some respectable company, i couldnt really argue back as i dont have any ground to as im not paying for it.

but surely theres gotta be a catch, ive gone thru the entire site and didnt pick up any sort of 'con' in there. the only thing that i considered a con was the fact id have to be a tiscali member for 12 months before i can terminate my contract...but thats all.

could anyone share past experiences or shed some info on this?

i'm also looking for a decent dsl broadband provider, although saying that, just moved into my house and a phoneline would help.. any reccomendations?

well the only reason its cheap is because you're only getting 150kbps. Most companies these days don't charge for the modem or setup, so there's no con in there.

im on PIPEX ive been very satisfied with the service

the tiscali unlimited 512k is the only one that is worth it..... but my pipex would be 1.03 cheaper for the same plus i get 10 email acounts 50meg web hosting that has unlimited bandwidth +some other things. ive also found its a very stable conection. can download at 50+kps and upload at 20kps at the same time

Yup, that's mini broadband, its running at 3x Dialup, as opposed to normal broadband that is running at 10x Dialup. Altho the speeds on mini broadband are a little better than having 3x narrowband.

150kbps is hardly broadband .. thats why its "cheap" .. if 16 is cheap for isdn speeds ..

im not sure about the broadband, but when i was on dial up with tiscali i had no end of problems, kept disconecting me for no reason, wouldnt conect half the time, had problems with them taking more money then they said they would and changin prices with no warning. i hated them and will now have nothing to do with them.

my $0.02

funny how u should say that...the disconnecting bit

my mate from college said something similar that tiscali kept disconnecting him every 30 minutes or some shit like that and it was hell to get back online...

thought it was only him... oh well

go mini broadband!

however if i come into some money me get super uber broadband from pipex or whatever

currently using zen adsl, thats quite good, but for 28quid for 512 download, im sure there are others cheaper. One that fraz is using isn't that bad.

Me flat mate works for insight in sheffield and for 40/month he can have 4mb download with their sister company. Shame he might be moving out

i use pipex its 23 a month u might aswell pay a few quid more and get a faster connection

Posted by DJ_FRAZ on Apr-12-2004 17:57:

i use pipex 1mb.
its fucking brilliant, i've had a 3 week broadband uptime with them without a single disconnection or hickup. the email accounts are simple to use and efficient, aswell as the webspace, but i don't use it cos i have no use for it.
im not moving service providers for a while
