Stanton's SMX-501
Looks like a beautiful piece of equipment. Does anybody own it, have experience with it, or would consider buying it?

The price range is about the same as the Vestax PCV-275, and it looks like the features are comparable.
I wouldn't mind one of these babies and two ST-150s.
GC gave me a smx-501 as a temp mixer while i was waiting on my empath. My first impressions wern't bad. Sound quality was surprisingly good for this stanton mixer and it's penny and giles crossfader was a nice touch. However, it did have it's nasty amounts of problems, first, it's curve for the xfader was killed thus only allowing a sharp cut, second, the effects loop was horrid at best. The send/return reminded me of the rm-3s' fx loop. Up faders wern't p&g, and it's eq seemed lacking when compared to many high end mixers. If you can get the smx-501 for <$250 than you should get it. I personally wouldn't recommend it if it costs you more than $300. After that i would just recomend a ecler smac30 pro.
where can you get ecler products in the states, and are they expensive? What kind of prices are to be expected?
Get one with kill switches.
PCV-175 or PCV-275.
Stanton/Numark mixers can't handle abuse...well, the abuse I give them anway.

Get an Ecler instead! I got a HAK 320 last week and have player about 4-5 hours a day since i've got it, I LOVE IT! not all that expensive and built like a tank. It's more geared to turntablists but it's fantastic for mixing trance/prog/etc as well. I don't scratch at all and i think it's the perfect mixer for me, can't say enough nice things about it, the sound quality is amazing. Leaves stuff like the djm600 for dead. I had a look at the stanton smx501 and a few vestaxs before getting it and i'm very happy i got the ecler instead. Definatly a different class from stanton/vestax/newmark/pioneer etc. Much more in the league of A&H, soundcraft, dateq, rodec, etc. The HAK series has nicer headphone cueing than than most of the SMAC series which was important for me.
i would of gotten a ecler smac 30 or 40 except i was offered a deal on a empath from GC that i couldn't refuse. Ecler is your best buy.
i have a stanton mixer and they SUCK ASS!!!!. i woudl not recomend to anyone buying a stanton mixer. i wish i would have spent the extra $ and bought a vestax. all though right now im saving for my A&H.
